Our line of work is more complex 3/1/2011

I understand everybody's issues on here but one thing we all need to keep in mind is that for us (the door sales man) its just not as simple as ordering a door and lock, please believe me that it will be one of the most complex process you could ever door. EVERYBODY'S trade affects ours. Now im not saying they were or were not a good company because i don't speak ill of my industry but yet a strong front office, confident sales man/project managers, estimators and detailers matter. Coming from one of the most highly rated company's in my area WE make mistakes is happens but a good door company admits it takes care of it no matter what the cost and makes you whole, and of you the contractor/owner make a mistake its our job to say that's just plain negligent i TOLD him he didn't listen or hey he told me the wrong thing he made and honest mistake meet the customer half way. I feel bad for anybody who looses there business after all i am the 3rd generation (70 years) in my company, and my ability to keep my customer informed and his ability to understand the product that he is asking for is key in the successful on time on budget project and let me tell you this they all wont be pretty but for the few good door groups around it will get done and it will be of a solid product. Just a thought...I invite any body on here to sit down for a day go through the motions with us then think about how you approach doors. But your feelings are well placed and i don't look down on anybody for there opinion more

Commonwealth Door is OUT OF BUSINESS 2/17/2011

I wish I had checked this site before we used them. The just announced that they are out of business and closed. Their phones are all off and mailbox is full. I have talked to a former employee and they didnt even tell anybody that worked there till this monday (2/14/11) that they were out of business and closed. We worked with a Mike Altizer there and he promised us the world, but lied to us constantly about our door equipment and where it was. They just took us to the cleaners. I have to call Skyline Door or House of Doors now to clean up the pieces. They are the only compines left now. According to the confidant that worked there, If not for Mike Altizer they would have been successful and not gone out of business. Apparently he annoyed and lied about the other co-managers in order to get them aggrtivated enough to leave the company. Even let one of the best EAC managers in the U.S leave, the guy who would have saved them from bankruptcy and made them quite profitable. Commonwealth Door got what they asked for by letting such an untrustworthy man run their business into the ground. So many people lost their jobs because of his incompetence. more

Very Good Subcontractor 1/25/2011

I have run a General Contracting Business in SW Virginia for more than 20 years. I have dealt with Commonwealth during all of those years. They are one of the most consistent and knowledgeable subs we deal with. The other reviews are likely from disgruntled former employees and competitors. Their scope is small enough on a job that you would just like for them to preform without headaches and that is what they do every time. Good company, great people, great execution. I have recommended anyone needing commercial doors & hardware to them many times and will continue to do so. more

Unfortunate Experience 12/16/2010

We hired Commonwealth Door to install some new doors and handles for our manufacturing addition in Roanoke and they really made a mess of things. The wrong doors shipped and were put in at the wrong time, as we had equipment still to move in. On a couple of expensive doors that were not supposed to be installed yet, there was damage and they would not give us an allowance or anything, we had to threaten the General Contactor to get anything about the extensive damages addressed with them. Their install crews that came to our building were very poor, they had no discipline and you know they spent a lot of time goofing off and then did a poor job to boot. It was generally poor workmanship from Commonwealth Door and from all levels considered. Things were installed crooked, sharpie pen marks on the nice wood finished doors, just sloppy, plain and simple. It took an immense amout of effort to get what we paid for and it shouldnt be like that. What a mess, but a lesson learned, go to a reputable company like Skyline if you want some decent customer service. more

Worst Door and Hardware Company in Virginia 7/7/2010

This is the sorriest excuse for a business I have ever encountered. They tried to rip us off by giving us knockoff foreign manufactured hardware because they thought we were too stupid to notice. Well we did, and demanded replacement. Then they accused us of replacing the door hardware ourselves to try and get more items from them. What a joke. I wouldnt use them to install a lightbulb. Pros: None to speak of Cons: Dishonest, Poor Performance, Workers are drug users more
