I've been using Cogburn's Service General for close to five years, and they've done many things for me. I hate that I have to use them so much because my air conditioner is so crappy, but overall they do a pretty good job. More often than naught they're giving me bad news, but I don't think it's their fault. They're very prompt and good about following up. They call if there is any delay when they are in transit, so from that aspect they do a good job. They work in a timely manner, and I don't have any complaints! more

Proficient gentlemen 2/24/2014

It was hot and humid and I was very impressed with his work ethic. The second time the gentlemen were not out there long since the job was fairly simple. Either way, I feel that the service is fantastic. more

I CALLED ON A MONDAY MORNING AFTER FINDING THE PREVIOUS NIGHT THAT THE A/C PIPES WERE FROZEN. COGBURN CAME OUT WITHIN 2 HRS. 9/18/2013

CALLED MON. MORNING. THEY CAME WITHIN 2 HRS. A/C WENT OUT THE PREVIOUS NIGHT. THE TECH SPENT ALL MORNING TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS & EXPLAINED TO ME AS HE WENT ALONG. HE FOUND A FREON LEAK, THUS THE A/C NEEDED TO BE LEFT OFF UNTILL THE INSTALL TEAM COULD BE OUT THE NEXT MORNING. THEY SPENT APPROXIMATELY 18 HRS TRYING TO INTALL BOTH UNITS-OUTDOOR & ATTIC. THEY EVEN WENT TO P/U THE COMPRESSOR THEMSELVES EVEN THOUGH THE MANUFACTURER WAS SUPPOSED TO BRING IT. FINALLY, THEY STAYED TILL THEY WERE ABLE TO GET THE A/C WORKING SO THAT WE COULD GO TO BED-HOUSE WAS 90 DEGREES. THEY HAD TO COME BACK TO FINISH THE WIRING & CHANGE THE CPU CONTROLLER B/C IT WAS 11-12P & TOO LATE TO MAKE EVERYTHING UP TO SPEC. THAT NIGHT. THEY DID A FANTASTIC JOB. MADE ME REALIZE HOW DIFFICULT A JOB THEY HAVE. more

Cogburn's Service General installed a part that had gone out on my old unit, effectively correcting the problem. They were very prompt and willing to explain a lot of things, which was helpful. more

Overcharged, mis-diganosed 7/1/2013

Avoid Cogburns at all cost! I called these guys out when my AC stopped working. When the tech arrived (late) he told me that my starter capacitor was bad. I told him to replace it. When he finished the job, he presented me with a $350.00 bill. This is a job that would be completed by any other company for $150-200. He told me that he would knock $50 off the bill if I signed up for a service contract, which I reluctantly agreed to. A few hours after he left, the house failed to cool down. I called them back and they sent out the same tech about 3 hours later. He then told me that I needed a new compressor and that it would cost $1500.00 for a used one. I told him I did not have the money for that and he left. The next day I called out a second opinion. The tech from the second company diagnosed the problem as a bad fan. He suggested that I try to work with Cogburns to make the situation right. I called Cogburns back, I told them that I found out it was a bad fan. They promised to send a tech out right away to make the situation right, and give me their "gold" discount. The second tech arrived about an hour after promised. He then checked the system out, and confirmed it was only the fan that was bad. He then told me that he did not have the part and it would be the next day that the work could be completed. He could not make a promise on what it would cost. I finally told them I just wanted my money back. They then proceeded to charge my card for the balance of the capacitor. I had to call back 4 times before they would agree to refund my money, but only after returning the capacitor (a 29.99 part). The company that I got the second opinion from finished the job(both capacitor and fan for under $400. Cogburns wanted $700 for the same job, and tried to sell me a new compressor when it was not needed. When I returned their capacitor, they refunded my money, but no one there gave me an apology, not even the owner who I ran into in the parking lot. These guys are crooked as a politicians. DO NOT USE COGBURNS!!!!!! They just want to rip you off and do not care about their customers. BUYER BEWARE, COGBURNS ARE CROOKS! We strive to ensure that each of our customer leaves feeling they got the best possible service, and I apologize that we did not live up to our own standards.Our technician arrived 15 minutes past the exact time we scheduled for you, He recommended the motor and capacitor be replaced, you chose the capacitor only and when the motor failed that technician dropped what he was doing and was back at your house within three hours. We offered to make the repair at a slight discount and you decided to have another individual perform the service at a lower cost. Since you were not happy with our service we refunded you your money, as our satisfaction guarantee states we would do. You and I visited, in person, and you told me the part was bad and that you found a cheaper service provider and all was good. Did not do what their $ 99 AC package offers and recommends parts not needed 7/23/2012

Was told by a Cogburn rep that 2 lbs of freon was included in the AC package. The technician told me that I didn't need any freon. Almost a week later, I needed freon and had to call another company and pay for it. I had no leaks or any other issues with the AC unit. I called Cogburn to complain and was told someone would get back with me-- no one ever did. I just finished a online chat where the girl said she'd have someone call me back-- doubt that will happen. They also recommened parts that were not needed as well. RESPONSE FROM Cogburn's Service General: Rhonda I apologize that you were unhappy with the service Dustin provided for you. We work hard to provide the best value we possible can for every client. Unfortunately there are times that we fall short, we are only human. But using false aquisitions and threatening our staff is not neccessary to get what you want from our company. Short notice repair 7/10/2012

After coming home from day surgery, the house was 87 degrees. I did some quick research and checked the BBB report, deciding to give Cogburns a shot. They were out within 2 hrs and had the problem fixed in less than an hr. withing 2 hrs, the house had cooled 15 degrees. Thanks Cogburns. BESstiT SERVICE WE HAVE EVER RECEIVED! 8/29/2011

We could not believe how quickly our entire central heat and air system was installed. I called Cogburn's mid afternoon on Friday, and Byron himself answered my call. Byron was at our home for a free in home estimate within the hour, and we don't even live in Denton! The estimate was a third less than another estimate we received, and came with a ten year warranty! The unit was installed the very same night, and the crew that came to put it in were very professional, and explained everything we needed to know! Byron called on Sunday to see how everything was working our for us! We still can't get over the fact that this day and age that there is a business that is run so smoothly and set on a firm foundation of honesty and hard work! Five stars Cogburn's! Ripped off a disabled single mom! 8/25/2011

They advertise "Cheaper" in their Yellowpages ad and that couldn't be further from the truth. They charged me a flat "non-membership" rate of $289 to replace the dual capacitor ($40-50 part) and spent less than an hour at my house. I even asked the repairman if that was a fair price for the part and he replied "yes". But once they have hooked you with a $99 diagnostics fee and fixed your a/c in 100+ heat, you're just happy to pay anything, right? After researching the price of that part, I called 5 other HVAC competitors in the area and they ALL said they would have charged $150-$160 to do the job Cogburn's did. I asked Jack, at Cogburn's, what an hour of labor plus the part would cost and it was still cheaper than what I was charged. I left messages with the staff to have the owners or supervisor to call me and explain why they charged me nearly twice when they advertise to be cheaper. No one returned my call after 3 days. Then they wanted to give me a bunch of free service that I did not need. After saying that was unacceptable, Tammy, the owner's wife said "we will send you a check around 50 dollars or we can come take the part out and give you a full refund. In 105 degree heat? So, I have yet to recieve the check and it has been almost 2 weeks.Tammy also told me that if I report them to the BBB for false advertising and price gouging she would contact all the HVAC repair companies and tell them I never paid my bill and to not allow me to hire them...aka blacklisting me. I am a disabled, single mom and can not afford to be taken advantage of with price gouging that left me with no grocery money for my child (who also needs medication) and I. Whether you have the money or not, I'm sure you don't want to pay twice what everyone else would charge for any job. I've since seen reviews on other reviewing sites and there are people complaining about the same problem! After 11 years we had hoped that by giving our customers repair options and a Straight Forward price before the repair, a work order that includes the final price before the repair, and an invoice detailing all charges after the repair that we could eliminate misunderstandings about the cost of a repair. Meanwhile, we appreciate your business and dont want to lose you as a customer. If ever a concern arises please notify us immediately so that we can address it and avoid misunderstandings. David Brannam was the technician who came to fix my a/c. Not only was he professional, but he took the time to teach me about how thw a/c workd and gave me hints on how to identify problems. He got to my home as fast as he could and I could not have asked for better service. Cogburn's has gained a new customer! more

Exceptional service on all counts 7/29/2011

After spending nearly two miserable weeks going in circles and holding on the phone for hours during +100 degree heat on a failing 11 year old A/C with our (Old Republic)home warranty program dispatched contractor (rated "F" by the BBB) who always showed up in a shabby van looking like he was coming off a week long drunk, we decided that wasn't working. We found Cogburns online and spoke to Byron at 2 pm. Our AC had been completely down (again) since that morning when the tech took it apart BEFORE finding out he had the wrong parts. He "hoped" he could get back the next day which was a Friday, or by Monday for sure... all this after nickle and diming a barely working A/C, and now it was disassembled as well. Byron listened to our predicament, gave us a verbal quote over the phone for a whole new unit at 2pm, we accepted and confirmed it at 4pm, a couple of incredible Cogburn techs by the names of Dan & Derek showed up at 8pm in a gorgeous fully equipped truck precisely when they said they would, installed the new unit, hauled the old piece of junk away, and we had cool air blowing shortly after 10pm that same night. Professional Company To Be Trusted 7/27/2011

I can confidently recommend to Cogburns as a professional company that can be trusted. In middle of Julys outrageous heat wave, my AC was not cooling as it should. I submitted a service call on their internet site and was called within 20 minutes for an appointment setting. They were able to come to my home the following morning. The technician arrived as scheduled. He was a true professional who came with top notch tools and equipment, and went out of the way to protect work areas to keep my house clean. The technician was able to diagnose the problem within a thirty minutes (low Freon and and a clogged condensation pan). The bill was really reasonable, and the thing I greatly appreciated was that there were no annoying attempts at upselling me on items and repairs that I did not or want. They even brought in a latter and tightened a few vents which were rattling at no extra charge. more
