Claudio's Main Restaurant

For the last 6 years, my wife and I have been going to Claudios at least once each summer. Actually, it wasn't until year 3 that we realized that it was kind of our tradition to do so. Each time we go, we reminisce (or try to... the older we get the harder it is to remember) about what we ordered the year before, it's great. In all the years that we've gone, we leave each time saying WOW that was probably the best... but to our surprise, the next time always seems to taste better than what we remembered of the time before. I have no specific recommendations - try it all.... we've yet to be disappointed (although, the mussels are always a great way to start any meal, right?) more

My wife and I had a similar experience seven years ago at this over rated restaurant.\r We were casually dressed tourists who decided to eat lunch here, and made the mistake of entering the restaurant through the exit door which was a few feet opposite the entrance door, and were loudly admonished for doing so by the elderly Hostess, as she led us to our table in the nearly empty dining room.\r The interior decor wasn't impressive at all, sort of like the back dining room of your typical bar and grill, one didn't have the impression that one was dining in a 4 or 5 star eatery, yet the staff that served us were a haughty lot indeed.\r The waitress that served us had the manner and looks of a 24 hour Dinner employee and gave me the impression that she was lowering herself to serve the likes of my wife and me.\r We ordered way over priced Salisbury steak and a chicken salad sandwich, and coffee and cake (stale) for dessert. The food, such as it was, was unremarkable and over priced. \r The final straw was when the waitress presented us the tab on a tray for placement of either my credit card, or cash. \r I paid cash, and was due three dollars change, which I intended to add to, too make up the 15% tip.\r Well, she took the payment to the Hostess/Cashier and returned to our table, and loudly announced that here's your $3.00 change as if to let everyone know that this low class cheapskate can keep his paltry gratuity.\r \r I could kick myself for leaving behind a 15% tip, but leaving this review of my experience at Claudio's 'landmark' Restaurant makes me feel a bit better about this distressing incident.\r \r Pros: Historic Eatery... was a Speak Easy in the 1920's Cons: Average but Pricey more

I had the displeasure of eating at this restaurant yesterday aftenoon. We both ordered 3lb lobsters that were extremely tough. The waiter took them back and offered us 2 1/2 lb lobsters saying they might be more tender. We were suprised that he was ""admitting"" the chef could not properly cook a 3 lb lobster! One of lobsters came out literally raw and other the claws were raw and neither lobster was sweet. They first reheated the fully raw one and it was not much better. Than they took the lobsters back and sauteed them in some terrible sauce. The experience was compounded by the bad attitude of the manager. We paid over $130, why I am not sure as the meal was worthless, and went someone else to eat after wasting over 1 hour. Most restaurant would not have charged at all. I guess next I call the board of health as I assume it is illegal to serve raw lobster and try to pass it off as cooked as the manager attempted to do. Pros: Getting out of the restaurant to eat somewhere else! Cons: Raw lobster thatn was not sweet. more
