Worst

Been going to Fryer Tuck for years (off and on). It's rare that we eat fried chicken, but theirs is exceptionally good as far as fried chicken goes. We also love their potatoes ...

Yum fried chicken... 6/27/2011

Its fried chicken that's cooked to order. The prices are a little higher than what's posted here on citysearch. Overall I thought the chicken was great, just remember that because it's cooked to order there's a 20 minute wait time. more

RUDE!!!! 3/26/2011

So rude, food takes forever, food isn't that great. more

Citysearch menu prices are wrong! 10/17/2010

I still love Fryer Tuck's chicken but its never been cheap. The prices on the Citysearch menu are not even close to what I was charged. more

KISS LAST GREAT CHICKEN PLACE GOODBYE! 7/3/2010

I use to LOVE Fryer Tuck, but in July 2010 I will no longer waste my time or money in this tasteless food. For $35 we received four thighs, six wings, pint of coleslaw and dip with one order of spuds and it was so disappointing. Whoever bought this business either got screwed or is trying to be cheap by leaving out important spices for the chicken and spuds. The spuds were just that...spuds! The chicken was cooked and looked good. The coleslaw use to come in two parts and you put it together yourself. Either they forgot the first part or just don't care since they should NEVER call what they are selling coleslaw. The dip looked the same, but just like all the other tasteless food it was missing too. For $35 I expected great tasting Fryer Tuck chicken and we didn't get it! I will not bother to buy anything from this place again. This was the LAST Fryer Tuck, and all we have is our memories now! If it goes out of business, the owner deserves it after all the bad reviews written here. I wish I had read them before wasting my money. Pros: Call in was ready Cons: tasteless food more

Great Bands and No Cover! 6/19/2009

Lloyd Jones plays every Thursday! The various bands that play here seam to have a music style geared to rock/blues which I found to be a good fit. Pros: No Cover, Good bar to drink and listen to live music. Cons: Ceiling is low where bands play. more

The Best Fried Chicken PERIOD 5/5/2009

I first tried the fried chicken at Cider Mill Lounge/ Friar Tuck a few weeks ago, and I have been back several times since. It is absolutely wonderful! The chicken is incredibly fresh (its strictly cooked to order) and the pieces are huge! The crust is very flavorful and crisp, and the meat is moist and delicious. Once you try it you will be absolutely hooked. The spuds are apparently also quite popular, but I prefer the shoestring fries....and the baked beans are the best I've ever had! The new owner is young and energetic and is committed to keeping things they way they have apparently been for the past 70 years. Cider Mill is absolutely my new favorite spot in Portland! Pros: great fried chicken, cozy bar, staff, new owner more

Used to be great. Going downhill fast. 4/23/2009

I've been eating take out here for at least 35 years, and I've never had a bad meal. They've always had delicious, crunchy and juicy fried chicken and great spuds. Never a fan of the ""dip""...kind of bland and I prefer to use ranch....but the baked beans have always more than made up for it. Unlike any I've ever had, with a deep mahogany color and a rich molasses flavor. Pros: Used to have great chicken, spuds, beans Cons: Terrible on last visit more

It isn't what it used to be 3/31/2009

Growing up I worked @ Fryer Tuck in Beaverton. The Owner made all the coating flour for all the different Fryer Tucks. He sold the company years ago , but the chicken remained good. I stopped at the Cider Mill 3 or 4 years ago , and it was still good chicken spuds , and dip. I stopped in there last week with a group of people , sat down and proceeded to be imediately disappointed by the service. It took forever to get a beer , the waitress had to repeatedly come back to check on what we orderd because I guess she forgot , or couldn't read her writing. It took about 40 minutes to make our food order , not because we didn't know what we wanted , it was because she could never find the time to take our order. So after we gave her our order , another 40 minutes went by before some of us got our food. I was one of us that got there food, the dip tasted like sour cream , the spuds tasted like bland floured potatoes , and the chicken tasted like bland floured-no spices-chicken. The rolls were store bought box rolls , we did not get the choice of coleslaw , beans or potatoe salad , that was suppose to come with the meal. Also 2 people never did get there meal , the couldn't figure out how to get 2 1/2 chickens in a fryer that holds 5 chickens. My suggestion is , that if you liked Fryer Tuck Chicken , you will not find it @ the Cider Mill , but if you like bland food this is your place. Pros: Don't think so Cons: Taste and Service more

Never will recommend 3/30/2009

We were to meet with friends and family and eat at this icon of a restaurant on the westside. We walked in about 6 pm on a sunday---apparently after their grand reopening of new mamagement---one waitress and one bartender was all that was running the floor.Thank good it wasn't busy.It took us 15 min.to get drink orders.25 min.to order food.Took the other 7 people 40 min. to finally get their food with one order returned due to wrong order. As for me and my son we never got to eat--AFTER ONE HOUR OF SITTING AND WATCHING PEOPLE EAT WE LEFT!!!!!!!! The waitress was rude, the NEW OWNER was too busy to talk to us!! NEVER AGAIN Pros: looks of the place maybe Cons: Terrible service that I have ever experienced more

SERVICE IS MISERABLE!!!!! 11/17/2008

Been going to Fryer Tuck for years (off and on). It's rare that we eat fried chicken, but theirs is exceptionally good as far as fried chicken goes. We also love their potatoes and dipping sauce. Beers (since they lost their brewery) are good. When they made their own beer, it was even more fun. more

Never going back! 8/5/2008

There was only one good thing about our first and last visit to Fryer Tuck/Cider Mill. For the price you get a lot of food. Too bad the food was bland, bland, bland. Seriously, the fried chicken at the closest Albertsons has more flavor. Also, the sign says restaurant but really it should just say Smoking Area. Even the non-smoking Fryer Tuck section smelled. The service was horrendous. There was one waitress on staff attempting to serve about 30 customers. It did not work. Our food order took over an hour to come out. We kept saying maybe it will be worth the wait but it was not. Pros: Value Cons: Everything else. more

Great value 4/27/2008

If you're searching for good fried chicken in Portland, Fryer Tuck has it. As far as I can tell that's pretty much all it has, and they do it well. Last night we ordered the dinner for four ($20) and it was more than enough food for four people. It was obvious that the chicken was cooked to order as it was hot, crispy, very moist and no greasier than fried chicken should be. It definitely h it the spot for my craving. The sides (macaroni salad and baked beans) were nothing special, but definitely tasty and picnic-worthy. We called ahead and our order was ready in the time they promised, and packaged up perfectly. The pick-up counter is attached to the Cider Mill restaurant, and the cigarette smoke fills the air in this space. We had to wait outside because it was so strong, but the food made it worth it, and since we got it for take-out it was fine. I would never eat there because of this, though, and am glad we ordered to go. Pros: Excellent value, good old fashioned fried chicken. Cons: Very, very smoky more

Fried lovin' 6/5/2006

There comes a time in one's life where he/she just needs a nice place to be a fattie. This is one of those places. Their service is excellent when the friendly older servers are around, terrible when the youngsters are. Their chicken is deliciously juicy, and the spuds are good when certain people are cooking it. The fries are great as well, but go here because of the chicken and just sample everything else. Make no mistake their chicken is what they're known for. The clientele is mostly older folks, smokers, fatties, or all of the above, but rest assured, anyone can fit in because everyone's getting fat off the fried chicken. Definitely not good for dates, great for a private pig out with people of like mind. Pros: chicken more

Just say no! 4/15/2006

Should have listened to the earlier posting, it was just as described. Thought I would take a stroll down memory lane, dreaming of little john spuds and juicy chicken. I guess in a word I would decribe the meal as ""nasty"" - the little john spuds I was dreaming about were sub-par to any roadside jo-jos at a quickie mart. I do have to say the chicken was better but it was taseless, no flavor just a hint of rancid oil. Save your money and hit any gas station with a fryer, your odds will be better. Pros: Not going back, Saving money, Food for the dogs Cons: Long Wait, Ambience, Food more

More than just Chicken...They were great... 3/30/2006

I don't know what is going on but it has changed the last few months for the worst. They had great ribeyes on Thursdays and always had great chicken but they must have new cooks or something. The QUALITY has gone to the dogs... The last couple of ribeyes were tough and not cooked the same. I had chicken the other night and it was so over cooked I should have gone to KFC. This place has been a great place for a meal for a long time but no more. Go somewhere else. Cons: Parking on thursday more

Grade A 4/18/2005

Finally tried Fryer Tuck with a couple friends. We all agree that the fried chicken is awesome. Large pieces of grade A chicken. Spuds are good to. If you like fried chicken, This place knows how to do it. Great service from our server also. more

Artery cloggin' chicken and spuds 1/16/2005

Sometimes you have to give in to your cravings. I eat friend chicken about once every 5 years. Fryer Tuck does a great job. The grease will leave you feeling the need for a 5 mile run, but it's worth the guilt on occasion. Down falls: smokey, atmosphere. Service was ""ok"". Beer choices are great!! Pros: parking, friend chicken/spuds, beer Cons: , atmosphere (none) more

The best fried chicken 9/6/2003

I wouldnt have known this place exists except for the fact that my dad had been eating it since he was a kid. They use Grade A chicken and their sides are awsome. A great meal for a great price. And now with their own microbrews. I just wish I lived closer. I just wish they'd clean the place up so it wouldnt have that dive feel. Pros: Chcken & spuds, sides, large menu Cons: interrior, pricy dip more

Best Fried Chicken in town 3/8/2003

Our family has only enjoyed the take out. Not exactly a family restaurant, but we enjoy our take out at home. The fried chicken is juicy and delicious. Portions are generous. This is not fast food folks but you can call your order in ahead of time and pick up when ready, which is pretty much always ready when they say it will be. We pay an extra dollar for chicken breast in the chicken baskets. The steak sandwich with cheese and onions is also very good. Still have to try to daily specials. Pros: good value, call ahead of time Cons: not for family dining more

Fantastic chicken, but the spuds? 12/21/2002

Ok, I've been going to this place over and over for a couple of years now, and it DOES have great chicken at a very reasonable price. As far as the spuds go, i fail to see anything special. The chicken is definitely worth a trip, order alot and pick up the sides elsewhere. more
