Ok, I stumbled upon Chiristies while 4/13/2012

Ok, I stumbled upon Chiristies while looking for a chocolate milkshake and lunch with my grandson. I live out of town and only get to visit my little guy once in awhile. They have welcomed my grandson (3) and he and I always go there when I am in town. It is a special time for him and they cater to whatever my little guy wants...chocolate milkshakes. They are wonderful and as a matter of fact my little guy and I will be there soon. more

A Fantastic Place to Eat 11/20/2011

This is a great place to eat! It's also a family owned place, not a chain restaurant, so if you want your food in 5 minutes, go to the drive- thru at any ""fast food"" place. If you want really good food for a great price, go try Christie's. The staff is always friendly, courteous and hardworking. We feel like family when we go there. They have affordale breakfasts (try the salmon scramble), lunch (the burgers are great) and dinners are always good. My new fave is the chicken salad...it's sooo good! more

Christie should be ashamed of herself. 7/4/2011

We REALLY wanted to like this place. In fact, when we came in my husband said, ""This could be our new favorite breakfast spot!"" We loved the decor and it had a nice vibe. We had just driven across town looking for an open restaurant on the 4th of July, so we were expecting things to be rather slow. Unfortunately the service was not only slow, it was almost non-existent. One of the waitresses was wearing pajamas and flip flops! Even if she had been called in because of the rush, how hard is it to put on some pants?! It took 30 minutes for anyone to talk to us. Finally we got water and menus. After more waiting, a waitress came over and took our order. She apologized for the wait as an after thought. When our pancakes finally arrived they weren't even as good as pancakes I could have made at home... thick and dry. Then we had to flag down a waitress to get syrup. After she came with the syrup, we asked for butter and coffee, which never arrived. Some sausages did though... which we never ordered, so they were taken away. This was some of the worst service I have ever experienced. What a bummer. more

Fantastic French Toast! 5/3/2011

VISITED ON 5/2/11 BREAKFAST REVIEW: I needed to visit North Portland and decided to stop at Christie's because it was enroute. My father and I ordered the French Toast. The portions were huge for the price. I must confess that this has been the BEST French Toast that I ever had in the Pacific Northwest!! The service was friendly, and the decor was artistic and a break from the ordinary. I will definitely return the next time I visit that area. It made my visit to North Portland extra special. This place might be a bit out of the way for some people, yet this is well worth the trip! more

We put our name on our good Christie's review 4/20/2011

I don't like "anonymous" reviews. If I write a review, I'll let people know who I am. I'm Mark Kirchmeier and my wife is Jane Hagan. We and are two kids dined at Christie's last night. Review: We gave thumbs on our four different entrees. Appreciated how the waitress was personable, caring, and connects with people. A wide-array menu with something to delight all but the crankiest individuals in Portland. more

SERVICE NEEDS ALOT OF WORK! 2/4/2011

So we have been going to Christies for about two years now! Sometimes a few times a week and today my family actually was there for breakfast AND dinner. Always crave my favorites from there BUT... It has always had TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! One time it took the chef an hour to get our food to us, we had to ask them to box it up because we were tired of waiting. One waitress is in particularly is just a real ditz. My husband and I actually really hate to see her working when we come in. Today all the staff was running around really confused and making ALOT of mistakes with not just our order but with everyone elses. What mostly disappoints me about Christie's is the food has not been consistent in our last few visits! Chicken for the chicken marsala is over cooked at times and at times the breading is soggy not from the sauce but from it not being fried enough, pasta has been undercooked, salad used to be my favorite but seems to have been cut back, from the lettuce and veggies. Breakfast is defenetly the best in town! When it is consistent. I send anybody thats asks for good food and a family friendly place there but I'm starting to really think twice. I am writting this for the OWNERS TO REALISE THEY HAVE A GREAT THING HERE BUT THE MANAGEMENT,CHEFS, WAITRESSES NEED ALOT OF RE-POLISHING. We probably wont stop going there anytime soon but if the service continues to SUCK we will probably just keep on driving by it instead of stopping in.\r YOUR BIGGEST BUT DISSAPOINTED :( FAN! more

DISGUSTING! 10/1/2010

I DONT THINK THIS PLACE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT FOOD, LET ALONE HOW TO MANAGE! THE BLOND WAITRESS? WHAT A DUMB DITZ! IT IS APPARENT THE MANAGER KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT A RESTARAUNT AND THE OWNER JUST SITS BACK AND WATCHES WHILE HE GETS RIPPED OFF........WHAT A DUMP! NO STARS FROM ME.................... more

best kept secret in north portland 3/3/2010

I am somewhat new to this area and have tried several of the local restaraunts and Christies is by far my favorite so far . We have eaten here on many a different occasion , times of day ,& days of the week .I have been here in large groups(8-10)and by my self .I was surprised at how large the portions were for the price (very resonable). The steaks here are some of the best i've ever eaten the prime rib and clam chowder though only sold on Friday and Saturday way out does its self . \r I was told the chowder here is awsome and having tried chowder not only all over Oregon but all up and down the west coast I would have to agree .I would highly recommend that if you are looking for a place to eat with excellent food and good priceing that you give these guys a try . the atmosphere is family friendly and the food is as good if not better than what grandma use to make Pros: excellent food, huge servings, price atmosphere more

Horrible Service and Food 2/28/2010

First, I would just like to say that this is my first time rating any type of service. I felt that it was impossible not to rate the poor service I experienced at this restaurant. I was excited to go to Christies tonight, because I like the idea of supporting St. Johns. I was part of a group of 4 people. We went in and waited for at least 2-3 minutes at the front door for someone to at least acknowledge that we had entered the building. We just seated ourselves after a while. I would like to add that there were only 2 tables occupied at the time. We all ordered burgers, my brother in law and myself ordered the inside out burger. When we received our food, we both cut our burger in half to discover a nasty surprise, both burgers were uncooked. I would like to add I don't mean slightly pink, I mean as if the ground beef had just been taken out of the package, center was red and still cold. I thought the burger is huge so even though I think they should have took more care to cook it, I will just ask for them to recook it. After our server dropped off the plates, she didn't even bother to ask if I or anyone else would like more water or anything else. I had to wave her down to get more water and to get the burgers recooked. The server didn't even apologize for the burgers being red and uncooked. She simply said, they are thick burgers after all. (Is that supposed to make me feel better?) So she takes back the burgers. A few minutes later, we receive the burgers again. I check my burger to see if the burger is actually cooked. The patty was cooked for the most part except some areas that were still red and cold. I proceeded to ask the server for them to burn the meat, extremely well done. The server takes back the plate and I would also like to add that the patty had been cut in half as well as the bun so when they recooked it they just took the patty off of the bun and ""cooked"" it some more and gave it back. She brings back the burger the last time, the patty and the bun were pretty much just a wreck. I assembled my burger and it seemed pretty well cooked at this time. I began to finally eat my burger. I got about 3/4 complete when I realized it was still partially uncooked. ( I mean how can you screw up burnt?) So I just left the last portion of the burger. Also by the time my plate had been shuffled back and forth to and from the kitchen, my fries were cold. The fries weren't really that tasty anyway so I left them there as well. We were given the check without even an (I'm sorry that your food could have poisoned you or anything) I didn't ask for the burgers to be comped, but I would think since the burgers were $9.95 each, they could have at a minimum took care of at least one. We left there feeling so dissatisfied that our table didn't leave a tip, which is big, because we always leave a tip. So to sum up the story unless you want your insides on the outside of you I recommend you not get the inside out burger or at least think twice before coming to this restaurant. Pros: It has curb appeal? Cons: Food and Service more

Best Food. Ever. 9/8/2009

My fiance (now wife) and I went here on a whim about six months ago, using a coupon we had purchased online. We like to try new restaurants and we often drove by Christies. Our first time there we were absolutely floored with how good the food was. I think I ordered the turkey dinner. We decided to go back a second time a few weeks later and again, same good service, same great food (I think I ordered the ravioli this time). Because of the wedding we were planning we were realizing that catering can be quite expensive. Figuring Christies would be just as expensive as the next guy ($20+ a person) we weren't even going to ask, but figured what the heck. It turns out it doesn't hurt to ask! Using the awesome ravioli meal as a benchmark we got an awesome deal. Bulk foods like pasta and salad work wonders on your wedding food budget! People never talk about the food at a wedding unless it's REALLY good or REALLY bad. Well, it's been about 2 weeks since we've been married and I still have family calling me asking what catering company we had. Highly recommended. Don't miss out on this Portland gem. Pros: Quality, Cleanliness, Staff, Taste Cons: Too delicious? more

Ants in my soft drink? 6/26/2009

On June 25, 2009, we had lunch at 11:45 am and both of our drink glasses (Coke and Diet Coke) both had 5 or 6 drowned ants floating on top of each glass. Unfortunately we didn't notice until several gulps later (through straws thank god). Our drinks were immediately replaced with an apology, and the replacement drinks were ant free, it soured out desire to eat our meals without worrying about what might be there too. The most unfortunately part was the waitress (pleasant lady) simply commented....""Oh, you know, it's that time of year when the ants are everywhere."" I'll never be able to drink a soft drink again without inspecting it. To be fair, my burger was delicious. Pros: Good food Cons: Ants in my drink more

Refreshing Change 3/14/2009

We just had dinner here for the first time and were pleased to finally receive some good service. We've had some horrible customer service at other restaurants lately so we were very happy to have Pat as our server at Christie's. She was attentive to our every need. \r The food was good and prepared in a timely manner. The place was spotless! I would definitely recommend giving it a try. Pros: Great Service, Good Food and Very Clean more
