Cheveux

I found that my experience at Cheveux was very unpleasant. I was told that Cheveux is a place for artists to collaborate and express their creativity. To me, the people here are educated very well. The haircuts were nice too (on the surface at least). The location is nice (not to mention the style is unique). But the lighting was poor and the temperature was often cold. The TV had a very negative tv show playing (Maury?), not to mention the music was either about sex or loneliness. The atmosphere, as well as the stylists, made me uncomfortable. The biggest issue that I had was their inability to communicate or listen. I felt as if my experience wasn't about me. I am curious to know, as another individual's comment did, if all of these five star reviews were by friends trying to help out the business. Cheveux will not get my business, nor will I recommend anyone to them. more

I have been trying several different salons around Grand Rapids for about 5 years. I am so happy to have found Anna! I have just been to her once but was so excited to have a stylist give me ideas about what to do with my hair. I know suggesting what I want is helpful, but they are the experts, not me. I made an appointment at Cheveux based a great deal on these reviews, which I realize in hindsight are most likely written by Cody and his 'girls' at Cheveux and a few close, personal friends. The ambiance of the salon is fine, but not 'big city chic' like all the reviews rave about. There are definitely nicer salons in GR. The lighting is also very poor in the salon, so you don't really know what you've got until you get into the daylight. more

I recently visited this salon after seeing it on Maranda's tv show. I was initially put on a waiting list when I called, but to my luck and the bad weather lately a cancellation allowed me to get an appointment. My immediate response when I walked in the door was ""WOW!"" The place has such a modern look but still so amazingly inviting and homey. I must say the holiday decorations were probably without a doubt the coolest I have ever seen. The place felt so alive. Cody greeted me and did my hair that day. What a skillful man. We started completely from scratch and I got a brand new look. I am so thankful for all the great service and have felt like a million bucks ever since. I get numerous compliments everyday! I was a little worried about getting my hair cut since I've always had long, frizzy, and wavy hair but as soon as I stepped in I was hooked! The atmosphere is relaxing and cheerful and you feel right at home. Anna was super friendly and talked me through each step she was doing so that I could do it at home as well. She gave me a cut and style that I could wear in a variety of ways (both straight and curly) and that l looked great on me. I've been going to one of the most expensive hair salons in the grand rapids area for three years. My sister came from out of state to visit and pointed out (in horror) that my hair was bleached white in the front and colored brassy yellow in the back (I knew, thank you very much...) I just went to Cheveux tonight and have to say that it is refreshing in this day and age to find service like I received from Janis. Point of information: CHEVEUX HAS MOVED. Their new address is 968 Cherry St. They are no longer on Wealthy. Due to not knowing this (as I got the address off of this site) I was a good thirty minutes late. Janis waited for me, took her time with me and never made me feel uncomfortable for having kept her. Not only that I love the haircut. Best one that I have had in years. Classy little joint. I have never had a better expierence than my first visit to Cheveux. For the past two years I have tried several different salons, and for the fist time I found the perfect fit for me. Jayme really listened to me and nailed the look I have been trying to get for years. My color is amazing and my haircut was the best I've ever had! I have a very busy schedule and making appointments before I leave a salon never happens. When I left Cheveux, I scheduled my next two appointments to make sure I would be able to get in with Jayme. I live in Strasbourg, France and have been coming to Grand Rapids often for business. I used citysearch to find a salon here because with all my traveling I was desperate and just haven't had time to have my hair done at home. This place is TOPS!!! Walking in the door at this salon and my first impression was ""Am I still in Grand Rapids?"" No doubt every city has its share of nice salons but honestly, this place wins hands down! I didn't know a salon could look and feel so cool. New York, L A, Chicago, they've got nothing on this place. I have left every salon I've ever visited and had to go home and wash my hair and start my style over from scratch. I cannot deny being skeptic to online reviews, but citysearch is right on target! I am new to town from california and did my research for salon options here. Cheveux has the highest rating overall so I decided to give it a try. As soon as I entered the door, I knew I had made the right choice. I have been all over L.A. to many ritzy salons and they don't hold a candle to this place. The environment is unlike anything I've ever seen, the staff is professional, friendly and honest, and the icing on the cake is Cody the salon owner. I knew I felt great about my new image, but my friends and family assure me that this is the best I have ever looked. Cody is truly the best assett grand rapids has to offer. It's not often that you come across a business that is so immeasurably superior in every aspect. Being new in town I followed up on a recommendation that I had gotten from several sources. Upon entrance I knew I had made the right choice. Not only is this the most beautiful and relaxing salon I have ever seen, it also contains the most highly skilled staff I have experienced.
