Editorial review from Citysearch 3/13/2014

I got my beloved wheaten terrier from Marie Larkin in 2001 and lost him almost six months ago. He brought me much joy and was the love of my life. However, I would discourage anyone from purchasing a dog from her. Christo was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 7, which may or may not be a result of puppy mill breeding. What is a result of bad breeding is the degenerative myelopathy he was diagnosed with. He carried both mutations of the gene as a result of breeding two parents who were carriers. Over the course of a year I watched him progressively lose the use of his back legs, ultimately dying of a blood clot related to the paralysis. This was truly heartbreaking, no wheaten deserves such a fate, and nobody should have to watch someone succumb to this disease. more

I bought a westie from her in 2000, she lived almost 10 years. She started out very aggressive, but never had any major health issues. She was such a beautiful dog. I was very happy with her but again she had temperament problems early on. She turned out to be my favorite dog of all my dogs. I lost her in 2010, I'm still missing her. more

Beware! 8/11/2011

We purchased an adorable Yorkie from Marie in 2008. Our puppy would not eat on his own and had to be hand fed. Ultimately we found out that our beloved puppy has inoperable liver problems. He is on a low protein diet, but must take medicine daily. His long term prognosis is not great, but we love our dog so much we would not give him up. Marie offered to take him back, but we were already bonded with our puppy, so we're staying the course. I would not recommend purchasing a puppy from Marie Larkin. more

Marie Larkin Emerald Puppies a must! 7/25/2011

Marie Larkin Emerald Puppies is a wonderful breeder. She devotes her entire life in making sure her puppies are happy and healthy. Its hard to give any breeder a paws up of approval, but Marie is one of the best of the best!!! You are not ""buying"" her puppies, she is adopting them out to you. You go through a very extensive interview and she helps you pick out the puppy that is right for you. She is very invested in the pups emotionally and keeps welcomed contact with all of her puppy families. I cannot speak highly enough of this breeder! If you want to get a Yorkie...she's the person you need to call! more

Thankful to have met Marie Larkin 5/15/2011

My husband and I have wanted a Wheaten for years. We had looked and looked, and they were not easy to find. I finally learned about Celtic Irish Puppies. I quickly learned that I could trust Marie Larkin's company from her prompt service. Every question that I had, she responded to right away. Marie made the whole process so easy so I could just await my puppy. We love our Percy! Thank you! more

Celtic Irish Puppies is recommended highly! 5/15/2011

Celtic Irish Puppies has the best and cleanest facilities I have ever seen. They take such great care of all of their dogs/puppies and you can really tell the level of care by the setup they have. I would recommend Celtic Irish Puppies to anyone considering a yorkie or wheaten. Marie Larkin is dedicated to the breeds and educating owners/potential owners about the breeds. She is always willing to take the time to make sure everything necessary is known before purchasing a puppy/dog. Furthermore, she always is willing to help yorkies/wheatens in need and their owners whether they were one of his puppies or not. Any good breeder will care about the dog for the life of the pet, and I have seen Marie show this level of care. Highly recommend! more

We love our Lola! 5/13/2011

Our Wheaton Lola is almost one year old and is the love of our life. We're so thankful for Marie Larkin of Celtic Irsih Puppies! She was so kind and a great person! I have had Wheaton's for years, Lola is our third and is the best dog I've ever owned. She's not just perfect in looks and coat, her personality is outstanding - literally. She is happy, joyful, friendly and outgoing. I take her everywhere with me and people are astounded by her nature. Happy, happy, joy, joy. more

Celtic Irish Puppies gave me a great puppy! 5/13/2011

New York, NY Any dog lover knows what it's like to live with, LOVE, and then even after a long life, lose them!!! OUCH!!......when it comes time to find another, Marie Larkin at Celtic Irish Puppies is the person to go to. For me, it was the YORKIE-and MARIE's family raises them in IRELAND where breeding standards are strictly enforced- NO PUPPY MILLS She has been bringing dogs from IRELAND for 40 yrs.,and is extremely caring and well versed in all aspects of nutrition and training...give her a call, and she will help you find your new best friend! more

Great Experience 7/17/2010

8 years ago we picked up our wonderful little Maggie, who is an Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. Marie came highly recommended by our vet who has two of her Westies. more

A wolf in a sheeps clothes dont let her fool you! 11/26/2008

I bought a west highland terrier from marie 2 years ago. My last name is omalley so she used her celtic background and brogue to beguile me. she also spun a tale of my puppies origin and birthplace to be at a farm in ireland with her son. A crib in her living room is where i first fell in love with what would become my childrens heartache and my devote loyalty to a very sick puppy. she is a scam artist and a very crafty liar in disguise as an old irish grandmother. after more than 2000 dollars in bills for kennel cough parasites and a breeding disorder called lions jaw, we are just as much in love with our baby as day one.. shame on you marie,a marauder, a sheep in lambs clothes for an extra penny. how do you sleep at night? It is my belief that one day, what you call your living, will come back to haunt you....in hopefully the cruelest way possible.P.S. Dr weinstein for you to back up this heartless villain makes you equally as guilty to get your business from perpetuating ill puppies to exist. you are both despicable. Pros: a loyal loving sweetheart of a dog Cons: years of heartache to get to this point more

This Woman is a Fraud 11/22/2008

I live in NYC and was looking for a wheaten puppy last year. I ran into several wheaten owners randomly on the street and at dog parks who had purchased Wheatens from Marie Larkin. She is not a breeder, she breeds dogs simply to profit, and unfortunately, most of the time sells innocent families a puppy who ends up having health problems. I've heard every story that these Wheatens have stomach cancer, allergies, several gastrointestinal problems, and need to be on permanent medications for digestion. These dogs are NOT from Ireland and clearly do not even have an Irish coat, compared to my wheaten who I got from a reputable breeder from the SCWTCA website, the OFFICIAL wheaten website. Yes, they are more money, but yes, they were raised humanely, are healthy, and are the breed standard. A reputable breeder would never ""mail"" a puppy either. Please do RESEARCH. Would you adopt a child from a random website on the internet without doing research first? more

Puppies with superb temperament and health 10/18/2008

When I arrived at Marie's I felt at ease as it was obvious to me she cared a lot about the puppies and their health. She introduced me to Blondie, who was the most adorable little dog. I asked about her personality and Marie said she seemed to be very playful but would calm down and fall asleep in your arms instantly once you picked her up. Well, that's pretty much Blondie!! She is a year and a half old now. We never had any health issues. Blondie is a perfect companion being by my side 24 hours a day. She even sleeps with me. She loves being babied and held and cuddled and has so much faith in her surroundings. It is obvious Blondie has never experienced anything negative and just thinks the whole world is there for her to love. She also adores kids. I don't know why I waited so long to get my puppy! In a few years I will go back to Celtic Irish Puppies for another one. Also, a friend of mine is a dog trainer and has trained hundreds of dogs. She says, based on Blondie's superb temperament and health, she is worth every single penny I paid for her. more

Would Recommend Celtic to Anyone 10/12/2008

I find these reviews rather suspicious. ""Virtually impossible"" to import puppies from Europe, particularly ireland? Obviously written by someone with a sinister agenda. It is far from impossible to import puppies from Ireland. The statement doesn't even make sense. more

PUPPY MILL WARNING!!! 8/25/2008

My husband and I bought our Yorkshire Terrier from Marie Larkin three and a half years ago. When Colby was a year old he was diagnosed with a kidney disorder in which his kidneys never formed correctly from birth. Because of this, he is not allowed to eat anything with protein and is on a special prescription diet. Last night, we found out that he has a genetic disorder that happens to dogs that are not bred well called luxating patella. This is a progressive problem that can lead to arthritis and surgery. It is treated with anti-inflamatoryies but because of his kidney disorder, Colby cannot take the medication. more

We searched online for a Westie breeder in the area and came across Marie Larkin of Celtic Irish Puppies. I emailed her with some questions and set up a time to visit with the pups. We purchased the puppy on the second visit. We decided to get the male puppy and we named him Wexford. more

Highly Recommend Celtic Irish Puppies 6/7/2008

We - my husband, 2 daughters and a son - have purchased 2 yorkies (Kate and Corky) and a westie (Paddy) from Marie over the years. We were initially drawn to her due to the connection with Ireland, we being of Irish descent ourselves. But we returned to her as our canine family grew because we were so VERY SATISFIED with the health and disposition of our previous puppies. Sure, our pups had coughs etc over the years (as have our children), but frankly these episodes only proved Marie?s worth. She was always there to counsel and advise by phone or email, even long after the sale. more

Do not purchase from this woman! Puppy mill alert! 4/5/2008

We bought a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel from Marie in 2005. You visit her home and see this nice, grandmotherly Irish woman with a nice home and a puppy sitting in a baby's crib. We went home and did hours of internet research and couldn't find a negative comment about her (Marie Larkin) or her business (Puppies by Marie or Celtic Irish Puppies). more
