Casablanca in Venice, California 7/5/2011

The Casablanca Restaurant is a classic type of Venice restaurant that people can simply fall in love with. It might seem old and very thematic as patterned to the movie of the same name. While the cuisine may be slightly different than expected, alas, it more

Still love it after all these years! 11/12/2009

Greatest calamari steak with a garlicky butter sauce - OUT OF THIS WORLD! Pros: Fabulous fresh-made tortillas and sauce and calamari steak more

Very disappointed 7/11/2009

My husband I decided to check out Casablanca based on the supposed great reviews....were we totally disappointed! We should have walked out when we first walked in b/c the restaurant smelled like fish. The tacky fake rose napkin holders with the god awful decor and the singer with a black eye said it all - ""SAVE YOUR MONEY & LEAVE!!"" But we decided to try it out anyways. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas and were disappointed again when the contents looked more like lemonade than refreshing authentic margaritas. What a joke. $22 for fake margaritas! Then the tacos had more onions, bell peppers and letuce than the few cold pieces of beef. Save your money and dine else where. I don't think the previous reviewers have had real Mexican food. This place does not compare to anything authentic! Pros: homemade tortillas Cons: Chinzy tacos and ready mix margaritas more

Meh 7/6/2009

really wanted to like this place, but the food was simply just not good. The service was slow and the margaritas were flavored water w/ seemingly no alcohol! I must say that I did enjoy the fresh flour tortillas and the green sauce they served with them, but unfortunately, the tortillas alone were not enough to bring me back. Pros: food, parking Cons: fresh flour tortillas & green sauce more

Greatest Mexican Seafood place 4/26/2009

If you like old movies and fabulous food, this is the place for you. Casablanca is patterned after the movie and has memorabilia all over the restaurant, including in the banos. My favorite dish for the last 20+ years is the Mexican Seafood Pasta -- covers my three favorite cuisines all in one scrumptious dish. Pros: Homemade tortillas to die for more

An Odd PLace with Loads of Character and Great Tortillas 2/13/2009

Casablanca is a great little restaurant that seems like it's from another decade. It's chalk full of random stuff from the Bogart film and out dated Moroccan decorations (although they don't serve Moroccan food). The food is great and the margaritas are awesome. They have a whole menu of margaritas but their house is my favorite. The food is not typical Mexican cuisine, so if you want a burrito or taco combo this isn't your place. The seafood entrees are the best and the carne asada with fresh guacamole can't be beat. And of course, their tortillas are amazing. more

Great Tortillas 8/12/2008

This place is great. I really love the tortilla and salsa. The best thing about this place is that they cater and they bring the Tortilla lady with them. Pros: Great Food Cons: Bad wine list more

Great Salsa and the Tortillas 6/15/2008

I love this place. It is better than the place across the street and has better prices. I love the tequla selection and the Tortillas. The wait staff is great. The best mexican restuarant in Venice . Pros: Best Tortillas in Town Cons: No Reservation more

Best Catering Company in westside 6/15/2008

The I hire Casablanca to cater my husband's birthday party. The services was great and I could belive that you could hire the lady that make tortillas. The tortillas were a huge sucess. The food was great. They still have the best Calamaril in town. Pros: Great Service more

darn great tortillas, okay everything else 4/27/2008

This place has pretty standard Mexican fare. Their menu is like every other Mexican restaurant, where some menu items aren't very good, some are above average, but most of it isn't anything to speak of. I am big on ordering Seafood Enchiladas from places that boast Mariscos and theirs tasted sort of weird. It had some sour green sauce that I wasn't too fond of. However, their saving grace is their TORTILLAS. At first, I thought they had laced it with some cheesy gooey goodness...just something extra because it was so darn fresh and tasty. I ended up finishing their tortilla appetizer and ditching my entree. Pros: TORTILLAS Cons: average food more

All is Forgiven 12/28/2007

I was with the group of three that went to the Sunday brunch a couple of weeks ago, and could not get the cranberry juice. Pros: food, unusual theme more

good food, poor customer accomodation 12/16/2007

A group of three of us went for brunch one Sunday in December 2007. My companions ordered from the menu; I ordered the brunch. I was offered with the brunch a choice of drinks: a mimosa, champagne with refills, or another alcoholic drink. I?d had a migraine headache earlier that morning, and didn?t want an alcoholic beverage, so ordered cranberry juice instead. I was told that this would cost extra! I questioned the waiter, who then went and asked the manager, and was again told that rather than limitless champagne, that one glass of cranberry juice would be at an additional fee!!! I ordered water. Pros: food Cons: service more

Good Tortillas, and reasonably priced if you don't order drinks 11/10/2007

I had dinner there this evening, and found the tortillas very good, although the waiter took away the tortillas dish rather than offer to fill it with more tortilas. I had the calamari mojo de ajo and it was very tasty. The garlic sauce basically smothers the calamari, but I like garlic. The prices are reasonable if you don't order alchol. A dos equis bottle of beer will run you $4.50, and when I asked for a margarita, I was automatically served a premium margarita, which is a bit more than the regular one. Pros: Tortillas Cons: High priced alcoholic beverages more

Do NOT go to Casablanca unless you like non-food items put in your meal by waiters/chefs 10/10/2007

I do not recommend Casablanca restaurant on Lincoln + Rose in Venice, California. Don't go there unless you want or like ""extra (unedible) sauces"" or non-food items in your food. I went there on a date and I politely asked the waiter to change our table since I wanted to be seated near the guitarist instead of in the back. I was served by another waiter. I ended up with plastic or glass in my salad. I brushed it off. I also bit down on plastic in my main entree, and at that point I did not finish the rest of my food. The tortillas are delicious and the atmosphere is nice but it is not worth it if I can't trust the waiters or chefs to properly handle the food. I will never eat there again. When I showed the manager on duty the piece of plastic that I found in my food, he acted like he did not care. Casablanca's service was terrible and their health rating should be reduced to an ""F"" for failure. Pros: Good tortillas, nice atmosphere Cons: Food preparation is not sanitary. Avoid asking for extras unless you want to risk having things put in your food more

What's the big deal? This place does not live up to the hype. 7/9/2007

Yeah, the tortillas are good. That's because they are fresh and made on site. But you can get this type and quality of tortilla at several other places, too. The food on the menu is pretty standard. Gigantic burritos stuffed with meat, rice, and cheese. I've had fresher at La Salsa. As for the calamari (which is their claim to fame), it's good if you like fried calamari smothered with a cheap sauce that masks the true taste of calamari. Pros: tortillas Cons: everything else on the menu more

Best Mexican food in Venice! 3/12/2007

I love their food and atmosphere! Their hand-made tortillas are delicious. Pros: food, ambience more

Great Value 1/26/2007

I just move from Santa Maria and I could find a good Mexican restaurant until I found Casablanca Restaurant. The Tortillas are out this world and the food great. The best thing about Casablanca is the prices. Growing up all my life in Santa Maria, I am not a custom to $15.00 dollar burritos or enchiladas, however Casablanca?s price are great. The Casablanca Movie theme is great Pros: The tortillas, salsa and food are great Cons: To many tortillas that I could not enjoy my dinner more

Best Selection of Tequilas 1/16/2007

This place has the best selection of Tequilas in the westside. The tortillas are great and so is the Green Salsa. I am not a big fan of calamari, however Casablanca has this wonderful way of preparing it. Great Prices and Great Food Pros: Food and Service Cons: Long wait more

Our Favorite Restaurant!! 1/5/2007

This location has been a long time favorite of my wife and I. Most special occasions are celebrated here. The service is very good and the food is awesome. They make fresh handmade flour tortillas for you while you wait for your food. I recommend everyone try this place! Pros: Service, Food, Price more

I love their tortillas!!!! 9/27/2006

The decor is odd -- lots of dusty things hanging from the ceilings and the Casablanca memoriabilia everywhere, but all in a good way. It makes for great conversation if you bring someone who's never been. When they bring the tortillas that are cooked on a griddle in the middle of the restaurant with the green salsa you will understand what I mean when I say these are the best tortillas in LA and the salsa is amazing!! I am happy just eating that with a big margarita. But if I do order, the shrimp ceviche on a crispy tortilla is my favorite. Light but big enough to fill you up and healthy. The calamari is great too, and the waiters in their tuxedos are always CHARMING and very kind. Great to bring a date with a sense of humor and a penchant for tequilla.... Pros: tortillas, good tequilla list, live music Cons: Don't look up at the dusty ceiling. Trust me. more
