AWESOME! 9/4/2010

Carl's steaks are amazing. I am not even big on red meat or beef in general, and after I tried their cheese steak a year ago, I am ADDICTED. It is like a drug, and I often crave it. It is like those late night cravings for White Castle, or a Taco, etc...(depending on where you live)...but worse. You HAVE to try them, but only do so if you are prepared to start an addiction! The steak is great, with warm cheese melted into it and the bread is to die for! I love Italian food and carbs and great bread...the bread is great! Good price, Great service, and amazing cheese steak. I've lived in 22 states and never found one product so addicting. Great business...nothing like thinly sliced steak, melted cheese, onions, toppings, and amazing bread to be the backbones of a wonderful product. I seriously love it. I'm slightly outside of the delivery zone, but they made a concession. Friendly people. If you go in and order, are nice and meet the staff, they are fun and very cool people. TRY IT and forget Philly...NYC has it all with Carl's!! more

Never go to Carl's 8/7/2010

Unbelievably rude staff. The sandwiches aren't that good - alot of bread, few choices and most of the time the people that work there act like they're doing you a favor. Don't be surprised if you can't call in an order because they often don't feel like picking up the phone and the manager doesn't see any problem with that. I would love to see this business close up. more

terrible service for a great product 3/11/2010

just spent 10 minutes waiting on hold to order something for a delivery. Someone picked up the phone and trather than taking my order, they said something in spanish, not realizing that I speak spanish. There question was ""who's dealing with this @sshole?"". I over heard everything, called back, only to hear the same question in spanish! Will never order delivery from there again Pros: great cheesesteak Cons: have to deal with the rude staff more

The worst service in the world 11/5/2009

2 1/2 hours for a cheesesteak sandwich. Called after an hour and they said it just left. It doesn't take 1 1/2 hours to deliver. INSANE!!!!! They don't care about the customer. Cons: Horrible service more

Horrible RUDE staff 7/22/2009

Cheesesteak is great, which is why I have ordered there in the past. The past five times I have, the people are horrible. I put in an order thru the website, and 15 minutes after the delivery time they call saying they just got the order and they really prefer that people call. I had already waited an hour. Then why make it available to order over the web?!?!? Previously they have left me on hold for 10 minutes when I called to make an oder. That's why I went online to avoid the customer service. more

Horrible, Rude Delivery 6/18/2009

After placing a delivery order, waiting an hour, calling to check the status, a staff member literally barked at me that the order had left and hung up on me. The food is good here, but for whatever reason, the staff treats customers like garbage. Consider yourself warned. Pros: great sammies Cons: rude, incompetent staff more

Very Snobby 4/29/2009

I just called this place's business hours. 1st, he told me that they open 10AM to 7AM, then He asked me ""who's callin? company?"". I said ""I need those info for my boss"". and he started said ""tell your boss, we open 11AM to 10PM..... No Monday to Thurs day bla bla"". He started speak very first, so I said ""Excuse me, would you tell me again."" He said ""You are wasting time..."" I don't know about how populer this place but I don't want go there anymore. Pros: Quick Cons: Rude more

For it's type, this New York/Philly cheesesteak is in a category of it's own!! Good hearty lunch or takeout! more

SOOOOO GOOD 3/11/2008

I don't know if theres anything better than a cheesesteak from Carl's @ 4:30am after bar hopping. These things are delicious... the line is out of the door usually after last call. You can choose types of cheese- true Phillie-goers usually opt for the whiz but I prefer American. They're huge too and priced very cheap, which makes this stop even more tempting. Service/staff is quick and very friendly. Grabbing one on a Friday and eating it @ home after work with a few beers=HEAVEN. Pros: Amazing cheesesteaks!!! Choice of onion or no onions/few types of cheeses Cons: If your health conscious this may not be the best place for you! more

Avoid the Chicken 11/3/2007

I live above this mouth watering place that the drunk crowd flocks to, but I have to say that the chicken cheesteaks are below average. They are famous for keeping pre-cooked chicken in a metal bin for hours at a time. i have never seen them actually cook the chicken. so stick to the beef if you go. \r \r Having said that, people do love it......but chicken lovers beware! Pros: Beef steaks are tasty Cons: Chicken sits out for hours and expect bad service more

I HEART Carls Steaks!! 10/26/2007

This is the best cheesesteak in NY hands down!! I go to Philly pretty frequently and must get a cheesesteak when Im there (therefore I definetly know when I have a good or bad cheesesteak! ) Most places do not know how to make an authentic Philly cheeseteak, but Carl has perfected it!! From the meat to the bread, and lets not forget the option to have cheese whiz or white cheese mmmm. I work 30+ blocks from their location and Ive gone there a few times on my lunch break..(a serious mission huh?..LOL) I love the fact that it stays open late on the weekends so if you're hanging out partying and get the munchies this is a good place to go. Pros: Great cheesesteak!! Cons: they dont deliver pass 57th street..lol more

Best cheesesteak sandwich in manhattan@ 6/27/2007

I simply LOVE this place! Their cheese steak is sooo juicy and delicious. They have 3 different types of cheese to top it off. Also a choice of with or without onions. The service is so speedy and fast and by the time I place my order its almost ready. The staff is friendly and attentive which I appreciate esp during busy lunch hour. The sandwichs hold a generous portion of steak on top of thick bread. Def the best place to get a cheese steak by far in the city! Pros: excellent speedy service Cons: sometimes they get mixed up, but they are apologetic and make it right! more

Can't talk, eating 6/6/2007

Make no mistake, Carl's has the best Philly cheese steak in NYC. If you are into Jim's of South Street in Philly, this is as close as you are going to get in the big apple. Sometimes I sit around just dreaming of my next Carl's cheese steaks and the cab ride there and back are certainly cheaper and faster than going all the way to Philly. While your there, have a chat with the always friendly staff as a good cheese steak takes a moment to prepare. Try the Carl's at Yankee's stadium too.\r \r WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!??!??\r \r P.S. Get the fries. Put them on your sandwich. Yeah, that's nice. Pros: Delicious and authentic Philly cheese steaks Cons: Not close to my house! more

philly native in NYC- Best in NYC 2/2/2007

having moved from philly 10 years ago and living in nyc, i was very happy to see Carl's open up. It is by far the best philly cheesesteak in manhattan. the bread - perfect, the meat- perfect, the whiz.....perfect and of course the grease....perfect. more

Best cheesesteaks in nyc 11/17/2006

These cheesesteaks are made the way the were supposed to be made: sloppy, greasy, tasty, and with tons of meat. Carl's does a killer job of replicating Philly steaks, and offers both Wiz and provolone. The fries are not half bad as well. The only downside is if you eat there (this means if you somehow manage to find a spot), you will walk out smelling like a human cheesesteak. You've been warned. Pros: Cheesesteak, fries Cons: You smell if you spend too much time in there more

Best NYC has to offer 8/5/2006

SO. I'm from Philly. I've eaten tons of my share of steaks from Pat's, Geno's, and Jim's (which, quite frankly, is terrible.) But really the best steaks ever are at a tiny place in Manayunk and i can't remember the name. ANYWAY. Carl's is the best NYC has to offer. Not quite a Philly cheesesteak, but the best i've had here, and i've been searching NYC's cheesesteak scene for several years. The bread is fresh, i've never had a problem with the meat, and they replicate the atmosphere of a philly place. (this goes for the place in east midtown. i've never been in the one on chambers st.) greasy, good, get it with the whiz if u wanna be a true philadelphian. and no matter how Wogie's advertises their bar and cheesesteaks, don't be fooled. there is nothing philly about wogie's. If anyone ever finds an OUTSTANDING cheesesteak in NYC, let me know!!! Pros: good sandwich, good price more

Not Ready for Prime Time 1/23/2006

This may be the best in NYC but Philly has nothing to worry about. I had the opportunity to try this place 3 times and each time came away with the same thoughts, the meat was too dry and there was no flavor. I did notice this last visit that the steak was in a bin and was pre cooked. As the fry cooked needed more steak he added it to the grill from the bin and warmed it, which I'm sure contributes to the lack of flavor. Anytime I've had a cheese Steak in Philly at Geno's or Pat's I got something a little fresher. This will more than likely be my last time at this establishment. Pros: Good Bread Cons: Pre-cooked Meat more

Nope....this is not a philly cheesesteak 10/2/2005

These New Yorkers have been fooled to think this is what a cheesesteak is suppose to taste like. I've had way better at a place in Atlanta, GA. Go to philly for the real thing.. the only thing that carl has gotten right is the bread more

As close as it gets... 5/21/2005

Philly Cheesesteaks are hard to replicate. So far, I've sampled each and every cheesesteak place in NYC, and I've got to say that this is as close as it gets. Problem is that unless there is a crowd, the meat sits out too long. By too long, I mean, thats what makes the difference between this steak and what you'd find in Philly. The more people on the line, the better the Cheesesteaks are. It might not have that little extra something that is the ""Philly Cheeseteak"" - but its still very good. Make sure you get it with onions and Cheese whiz. Pros: Cheap, Filling, Location Cons: Closes early weeknite, Limited Seating more
