Editorial review from Citysearch 5/10/2014

Very disappointed in the care I DID NOT receive at Helouin's! They advertise that they take \r Emergencies so, as they have been my vet for a while for my 4 dogs, I took my yorkie there after she was attacked by a larger dog. We were checked in and WAITED and WAITED!! She acted like she was in shock and was bleeding. Some people came in with a dog WALKING in and was taken back immediately. They were even all waiting in the hall for this dog. I asked how much longer would we have to wait....we were told this dog was being euthanized! I feel bad for that, but could that have waited 5 minutes while they looked in my dogs eyes to see if she was in shock? The dog WALKED in! My dog could have died while we waited! We left and went to Sherwood South where she was seen immediately and treated. \r I will be looking for another vet for my 4 dogs! \r more

The best medical Care available in the BR Area 4/9/2012

We bring all of our German Shepherds to Heloin's. We find they are very thorough kind and courteous. They are affordable and on a good day you can be seen quickly as they have several Doctors of Veterinarian on hand to see patients. They have excellent groomers on staff whom are wonderful with bathing and grooming and have knowledge to handle dogs whom can not be seen at your average groomers due to showing aggression. They know how to handle both large breeds and smaller breeds. We have always found resolve with the treatment they suggested for our pets. Our pets have received excellent health care with the vets at Helouin's and never any incidents of misdiagnoses - only great care and satisfaction with the treatments our pets have received. We have several German shepherds and highly recommend Helouin's to all our friends whom own pets. more

compassionate doctors/friends 6/11/2011

I have been bringing my pets to Hellouins for 25-30 years. They always receive extremely good treatment. Dr Brent has put at least six of my pets to sleep after doing all he could. All the doctors there show such compassion and love towards the animals in their care. They truly love animals and it shows. Dr Brent always buries my animal in the yard next to the clinic because he knows I can't stand to think of them in an incinerator. That is a lot of work; yet he does it! He has brought meds to my home when I was too sick to get to the clinic to pick them up. I truly love all the doctors and consider them to be family. more

Thank you Drs. Helouin 10/19/2010

I am a 2nd generation client of this practice. My parents began visiting Dr. MC Helouin in the 1960's before I was born. I have patronized a lot of vets in BR over the years as I have fostered animals for CAAWS, APAWS, and have had a number of my own pets. I like a lot of veterinarians in this town, but I take my own pets to Carl Helouin. Yes, their practice is wildly busy at times and they aren't infallible (who isn't), but Carl really knows his stuff and I trust him more than any other vet I've gotten to know. \r \r One Sunday, my little 9 yr. old mini-dachshund had a major seizure. I called Carl at home, told him what was happening and he asked me if I was calm enough to drive Photon to the clinic. I said yes and quickly met him and Dr. Brent Helouin there. My poor little dog was still violently seizing when I got there 15mins. later. I was scared to death. They quickly went to work on stabilizing him and Dr. Brent took Photon home with him on an iv Valium drip and cared for more

Busy, Rumor has it good patient care, Proved Untrue! 4/1/2010

A friend of mine found a dog on the side of the road and took him here for his shots. Heloins told her the dog did NOT have heartworms. She gave the dog to my roommate and two days later, I took it with me to work (I work at another clinic), I ran a total health check and neutered him... Sure enough he turned up clear-as-day positive! This is very poor patient care to either not test him (at Heloins) or to lie to the owner concerning the results. I am VERY upset with them, and sure the quality of care is something I would not trust again. Pros: No appointment necessary Cons: Apparently too busy to do a good job! more

They love animals and prove it over and over. 3/20/2010

They're locally owned, and they love animals! They have taken care of my beloved pets for 20+ years. I evacuated Baton Rouge in advance of Hurricane Gustav and took my sweet cat, Seymore, to them to board. I couldn't take him with me to Atlanta. Baton Rouge was heavily damaged by Gustav and power was all over the city, for an average of 7 days, in September. . When I came back a week later they were running a portable generator--to cool the animals--not their office. more

Good vets, good staff, good prices 10/30/2009

Numerous people in my family have used this vet in the past, so when a feral cat that lived behind my house was attacked by a wild animal, I called Helouin's and they said they could see him. The office staff was courteous. They were very busy that day so I had to wait (it wasn't a huge emergency, just needed a rabies shot and some stitches), but they saw him. The vet told me what he needed to do, that he needed to stay the night, be put under, get stitched up and while he was at it, that he could neuter him. I declined thinking it would cost too much at the time... it wasn't even my cat. But after I left, he called me and asked to reconsider and explained why. Well, he convinced me. When I went in to pick up the cat the next day, he was sewed up, fixed and caught up on all his shots. When I went to the counter, I expected to pay a ton since another vet had quoted me in the $200's just for neutering. But it was under $150 for all of it. I liked this place so much I have recommended it more

good vet 11/8/2005

We have used Helouin Veterinary Hospital a few times over the years for our animals. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. They have usually been successful in treating our pets (mainly dogs). The prices seem to be comparable to most vet offices. I would recommend them. more

Where Pets are treated like their own 9/6/2005

My aunt and cousin have used this clinic for years and so have I. My most impressive moment was when I brought in a puppy that had been dropped and had internal bleeding - the puppy did not make it but the vet's wife stayed up with it all night and kept me posted through the night. Prices are competitive, great parking and a great staff. Reasonable prices. PROS: Great staff CONS: more
