Well, I went here on my friend's suggestion. We had some great tapas and sangria. Service was perfect...atmosphere fine..........BUT...... The waiter asked us if we'd like some bread...I said yes. Then we asked for butter. We were charged for both....what the hell? Of course the waiter disappeared when we tried to complain. I'm hesitant to try the travis or oak cliff location. We went to celebrate the bar passing of my husband. I was looking to go to Hola but found out it shut down a while ago due to lease issues. From the reviews of the other one, I found this one. \r \r We went with a large group. Antonio took our reservations and was nice enough to seat the party as they arrived. Once we all got seated our waiter was NOWHERE to be found. It was 20 minutes before we saw him come by! We went with a mixed group. Since we were the ones celebrating we bought the Sangria for everyone. When he started to take the order I made sure he knew separately who was ordering what so we could keep tabs for the bill. He nodded in agreement. Well the food was ordered and many pitchers of Sangria were had. The Sangria was decent but no fruit! I digress. When he dropped off the bill it was not broken down by who ordered what, and it was all in spanish. (one side of the menu was in spanish, the other english...we ordered from the english side and as the only sober person I had to match it up to the english equivalent and write it down). Well I told him he needed to split it up into like 7 checks. He refused. Said there were too many things. LONG story short...it took us over an hour just to get the bill straightened out because he would NOT come back and work me on writing out the separate checks. \r \r The food was MUCH better at Hola. I am sad that they are no longer in business. While I'm sure service would habe been better if it were a smaller group, I would not recommend for a large group. It was a TOTAL disaster. The waiter was downright rude in handling the bill. The only saving grace and the reason for the 2 stars instead of 1 is the friendliness of Antonio (the host). \r \r DO NOT GO here with a large, mixed group. I really enjoy bringing people here that haven't had tapas before. It is a very fun experience. Their octopus vinaigrette is d-lish!! I also love the fried goat cheese with honey and caramelized onions and the cured meat plate. Their wine menu is confusing though, not done by type of wine, but by region of Spain the wine is from. With all the ridiculous gone-by-tomorrow restaurants popping up all over town it is reassuring to know that Cafe Madrid is still a worthy Dallas fixture. I searched CitySearch for the perfect tapas restaurant to accomodate a group of 20 people for my 30th b-day. I admit I did call some of the newer tapas restaurants first, but none of them were willing to take a reservation. When I called Cafe Madrid, they were very helpful with making reservations and answering any questions I had. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were seated immediately and orders were taken promptly. I was with a very picky crowd, most of whom are of Hispanic heritage. We were all very excited about trying the paella. Unfortunately, it did not live up to anyone's expectations. It seemed very bland and dry. Some of my guests had to ask for various spices and condiments from the back to make it edible to their very high standards. Most of the other tapas we ordered were alright but no WOW factor. All the while though, our waiters were very acomodating to our requests, including turning down the air to cool it down a bit. Service was fantastic, food - not so much. more

After seeing all the trendy places around Dallas come and go, it is so refreshing to go to Cafe Madrid where things don't change. Love the culture of Eurpoe and looking for something real in a very plastic area? This is your place. more

Cafe Madrid has a fun ambiance and great outdoor patio... combine that with a pitcher of home-made sangria and a variety of tapas... and it's a fun night for you and soem friends. I have been coming to this wonderful restaurant for years and I find myself loving it more each time. I have tried other tapas bars, spanish cafes, etc. and I always find myself coming right back to Cafe Madrid. The tapas, entrees, wait staff, wine list, patio seating, spanish music, atmosphere, decor, and lively crowd all make this charming little restaurant a MUST in Dallas. I've been with family, my girlfriend, a small crowd, and with a large group of friends- any size party is sure to have a great time at Cafe Madrid. You may have to wait for a table on a Friday or Saturday night, so enjoy a glass of Sangre de Toro (house wine) while you do because this place is absolutely worth it!! more

I was a little scared to come to Cafe Madrid at first, simlpy because I had never heard of it...that and the fact that I had never tried real Spanish food before. We got there, and I will admit, it takes a little while to get a seat, but believe you me, it is definatley worth it. It is a small little resturaunt that is ALWAYS busy! The food is the best food that I have ever tasted. I have been there a few times now and I must say, that is my absolute favorite resturaunt. It is a place that you can go on a date for just you and that specail someone, or with a big group of freinds for talking and laughter. I HIGHLY reccomend this resturaunt for everyone...especially to someone who is ready to try something new. I promise...you will not be disappointed.
