Best

We had a party of four and tried their coconut shrimp, their crab stuffed shrimp and the red snapper-every one was outstanding! The venicular ride up and down reminded us of Capri...

Worst

MUST READ!!!! I really hope the owner/manager reads this because this is coming from an experienced restaurant manager, now business owner. I want to Cafe Blue by the way ...

Good food. Pricy. Hot. 5/9/2011

The food was good, but not great. Certainly not good enough to justify the prices. The two members of our party who got the Mahi Mahi ended up getting sick that night. Not full blown food poisoning. But stomach aches, diarrhea, etc. It's all outdoor seating, which is fine. Just know that people will be smoking around you, so if you don't like that, go somewhere else. Also, if it's hot outside, it will be hot here. When the sun is high in the sky, you are in the shade. But when it starts lowering towards the horizon, the sun beats in there hard and it also reflects off the lake making it hot and bright. Once the sun goes down, it's fine. more

Great food and Service horrible experience paying tab 10/30/2010

MUST READ!!!! I really hope the owner/manager reads this because this is coming from an experienced restaurant manager, now business owner. I want to Cafe Blue by the way of a Living Socail coupon and me my wife and daughter decided to use this on a beautiful friday afternoon. This review is in no way directed to our waitress at CafeBlue she was awesome, prompt, polite and everything come out perfect. On to the food. The food and drinks were great, the coconut shrimp VERY good and my red fish was great, as was the stuffed shrimp. NOW ON TO THE UGLY! ! We received our bill and there were 2 thing that were very disturbing. First off, they added gratuit to our bill and there were only 2 adults and a child dining. Tacky! Second, they not only added gratuity, they added it to the entire amount of the bill minus the coupon. This is unheard of! I complained and infomed our waittress that I would have easliy left a 30 tip on for the bill but was shocked to find out they they do this for all "Groupon type" coupons. What they are saying is that there daily deal folks are cheap, BS if you ask me. To be honest, it ticked me off! Tacky X 2 After complaining, the manager took the amount off so I could tip more? I don't this so. The botton line: IF your using a Daily Deal coupon at Cafe Blue BE PREPARED, they will Add gratuity on your tab for the full bill amount even if your dining with you and yours. Did I just type that, I still can't belive it! Are you listening Cafe Blue restarurant owner/manager! This is a HORRIBLE Business practice and would never consider purchasing another related offer from your establishment. I had a really hard time not leaving this place only 1 star but our waitress was great and the food was great. These stars go to both of them, the restaurant manager gets a negative 5. more

Horrible Service, Great Food 6/18/2010

We went to Cafe Blue tonight expecting a nice, casual dinner. Upon arriving, we couldn't figure out where the restaurant actually was, due to poor signage. After calling the cafe and receiving some unhelpful directions, we managed to find the pathway to get to there. We were surprised to see that every table was in the sunlight. We asked to move to a more shaded area (as soon as one became available), and the waitress told us that all the tables had sun but that the sun would go down in 20 minutes. This was almost 2 hours before sunset. Make sure you wear sunscreen and have sunglasses if you do go. I do have to say that the food was delicious, albeit way over priced (a small piece of French bread was $4!). However, it took well over an hour to receive it. In the meantime, we were completely ignored and had to track down a waiter to refill our water. This after having to beg for our menus and silverware from the server. All around, I would never go back to this place, even though I loved the food. The service was just too bad. Also, people with motion sickness should be aware the the only road to the restaurant is a long and winding one. Pros: Great Food Cons: Horrible service, no shaded tables more

We went to Cafe Blue one afternoon after a day on the lake. I was very impressed with the food. We ordered coconut shrimp, ceviche, and sliders and everything was delicious! They have a great patio and view. The parking is a little tricky but you can park on the street and they have a lot across. If you want good food and a great view of Lake Travis, Cafe Blue is the place! Pros: Patio, Food more

Great seafood, and the best calamari I've ever had 9/5/2008

Anytime I have an important vistor or family visiting from out of town, Cafe blue is a stop that I'm sure to bring them to. The fact that it is right on the lake is a bonus considering the food. They have a good selection of different foods for what ever mood I'm in and their version of calamari is realy the best I've ever had. A relaxed style restaraunt with fine dinning food and a great view. A perfect representaion of Austin lifestyle. Pros: drive car or boat to more

Lake Travis finally has a top quality restaurant 8/30/2008

What a surprise this Lake Travis restaurant was - great food, views, and ambience! That is a unique combination. We drove out the first time along the road past Volente to the Lime Creek Marina and took the marina lift down past the waterfall to this charming cafe hanging over the lake. The mahogany plank flooring, teak tables and chairs, and metal sculptures set the stage for a varied menu. We sampled four dishes $13 to 23 all with yummy sides included. The Snapper Louisiane had a Cajun cream sauce over the crawfish/shrimp. The NY Strip was 10 oz of tender steak covered with blue cheese, scallions, and candied pecans. The Jamaican jerked chicken breast and shrimp stuffed with jack cheese and jalapenos rounded out the entrees. These in addition to the appetizers, wine and drinks made this a must return experience. Our second visit was by boat using convenient free slip by the restaurant. This time we concentrated more on the salads and desserts. Favorites were the Lake Travis Summer Salad with field greens, feta cheese, pecans and dried cranberries and an apple cider vinagrette dressing. The dessert was a tie between the homemade Key Lime pie and the ala mode Volente Volcano. The misting fans were a welcome addition. On the third visit we boated from Emerald Point marina to meet some friends that drove only 10 minutes from Cedar Park for a weekend Brunch on the lake. Again food, drink, and service excelled. My fav was the Starnes Island cheese omelet topped with shrimp and crawfish with fresh fruit and smash browns ($11). The omelete with 3 ingredients and those sides was a bargain at $8. Regardless, the way you get there by land or water it is worth it - - bon et it up! Pros: Great lakeside environs and food. Cons: Not as convenient as McDonalds more

Great Views, Great Food, Great Drinks, Great People 8/27/2008

As visitors to the area, we were looking to dine at an establishment that embodied the mood of Austin. We found it in Cafe Blue! We navigated the pathway from the parking lot to the entrance (there is an elevator, but we decided this was part of our experience) and were greeted by attentive and knowledgeable staff who guided us through a plethora of sumptuous choices. The delicious food and beverages were accompanied by the awesome views of the lake from the verandah, We highly recommend making this setting for your next dining experience! more
