Have you ever heard of such a thing before? My husband and I made reservations at cafe Bizou in Sherman Oaks for 7:30, but when we got there, we were kept waiting for nearly 40 mi...

Worst wait ever... Food served poorly... Nintendo Stolen from car by valet 5/22/2007

After reading others reviews, I figured I would arrive 20 minutes early, to get the name rolling on the reservation... A sunday night at 7:15 was the reserved time.... We arrived at 6:55 or so Pros: A great way to ruin your car's rims while waiting for a mediocre meal Cons: A lousy way to spend money in LA. Reservations are an estimate more

Reservations? Why Bother? 2/24/2007

I had dinner there for the third time last night in as many years. The food and wine were good as expected. My date had the short ribs which were tender and delicious. I tried the sand dabs which were just, well, good. The biggest problem with the evening was having to wait half an hour to be seated even though I had made 8:30pm dinner reservations. Yes, it was a Friday night and it was busy, but that's why we make reservations, right? It was particularly annoying to see the maitre d' seat two other couples ahead of us who seemingly arrived after we did. That's just downright disrespectful in my opinion. I had to remind the hostess twice that we were not yet seated. If I had been there with friends instead of a date, I would've certainly given the maitre d' a piece of my mind. All in all it was still a pleasant experience which was soured just enough to prompt me to write a review, which I never do on this site. Make your decisions accordingly. Pros: Nice dining room, good food and wine, reasonable prices, fairly inexpensive valet service. Cons: Long wait even with a reservation. more

Tres Chic - Romantic and the best food in the city 2/9/2007

My favorite restaurant in L.A. - get the carrot soup and the spicy chicken pasta! Great wine list. Noisy and fun. Great for groups, birthdays, kids, biz lunches. C'est magnifique and I'm not usually a fan of French restaurants!! more

It's Casual French 11/4/2006

If you are looking for some fancy, dancy French Restaurant, then you are barking up the wrong tree. BUT!!! If you are looking for a casual dining experience that has flavorful food, then this is the place to go. I used to live in the valley, and I would go there quite often...they have decent food for the price, and it's definitely not as bad as some others. The service is always warm, and friendly. I sometimes crave this place, I haven't been there in awhile, and I just found out they have a location in Santa Monica, which is very close to where I live...so I will be visiting that one shortly... Pros: Nice Service, decent food, prices more

Ugh. What a diappointment. 11/1/2006

Man! I was really excited to go here for a business luncheon with a few colleagues. Being the foodie I am, I had already looked over the menu online before arriving at the restaurant and couldn't wait to get there to try the yummies. I loved the atmosphere-light and airy, bigger than I expected. The lobster bisque started off great (HUGE chunks of lobster tail in the thick soup) but I quickly lost interest. It just got boring and was too thick and heavy, even for a bisque. Pros: Nice ambiance Cons: The food more

Pleasantly Surprised! 9/25/2006

I went there recently with a friend of mine who was very skeptical of valley restaurants and very hesitant to go. Upon walking in, we were comforted by the warm atmosphere. More importantly we were very impressed by the food. He was so impressed with his food, he said the valley redeemed itself. He had the halibut and i had the ahi tuna salad. Both delicious, just the right portions. Service was good and the prices very reasonable. Nice place for a date. Pros: Food, value Cons: seating a little tight... more

Engineer's Report of Cafe Bisque (it's accurate) 9/2/2006

Not bad for the price. Pros: Duck Salad, Lamb Chops, Lobster Bisque Cons: 90 deg F climate, slow service, uncooked chilean sea bass special more

One of my wife's favorites! 8/29/2006

My wife works over in the valley nearby so we have had the chance after work to dine here many times over the recent past. Just a great local neighborhood cafe. The food is not the equal of a top restaurant, French or otherwise of course, but neither are the prices or attitude. It holds it's own with any nice french cafe. The food is not on a level to challenge you but it does not bore either. more

Excellent Food-Best Lobster Bisque 7/30/2006

What can I say except that everything that I have had here has been absolutely excellent. The New York steak, the lamb chops, and the monk fish are all excellent choices for an entree. You must get the lobster bisque, I have eaten lobster bisques all over this great nation and have not found a better one. Pros: Overall great dining experience Cons: parking a bummer more

THIS PLACE IS FABULOUS! 7/8/2006

Great food, fine service, reasonable prices for high-end French. Startlingly low corkage fee. Try the Monkfish or any of the Salmon dishes! I have never been disappointed by this place, and this comes from someone who was extremely disappointed in Melisse in Santa Monica and Joe's in Venice. Trust me -- GO GO GO!!! Pros: Great French at reasonable prices! Cons: No major complaintsjust remember that you're more likely to find Monkfish than Lobster and the menu could be larger or change more (on the other handI'd miss the Monkfish or Pitashio Crusted Salmon if it did). more

My favorite restaurant!!! 6/13/2006

I love this restaurant! The whole atmosphere is soooooo romantic, the food is simply great, and the waiters are extremely friendly!!! more

When in the Valley... 5/26/2006

Not worth going miles out of your way for BUT above average faire at very reasonable prices. A fine experience in a cozy setting. My party arrived on time and we were seated prompltly. All agreed the food was a bit on the bland side and the sauces seemed a bit watered down. Nonethless it's a cut above average and when in the valley worth returning to. The portions are just right! The corkage fee is very low and the extra soup or salad for $1 is unheard of! Very nice of them! The wines are reasonably priced too. A good experince overall. Pros: quality, prices Cons: can be bland more

Romantic 5/4/2006

Very good location for a romantic evening with your significant other. I actually had my company Christmas party there this year and it was very nice. more

one of the only nice restaurants the valley has 12/1/2005

looks like it used to be someone's house that was converted into a restaurant; really quaint and cozy. the food is always good: try the crabcakes, escargot, french onion soup or lobster bisque to start. for the entrees the monkfish with risotto is always tender and moist, and the lobster tail with shrimp is always a good bet. i'm not big on chicken at restaurants (since i can make that at home) and the filet here is decent but not great. the desserts are always great: delicious tarte tatin, creme brulee or the profiteroles are some of the best out there. weekends tend to get pretty busy, so you may have to wait even WITH a reservation, but the payoff is always worth it. wine list is decent and corkage is CHEAP. and as always, Philippe always makes sure your dinner is terrific. Pros: good food, great prices Cons: busy on weekends more

I have to take back my good review of this place 11/27/2005

I removed my positive review. A bus boy broke a wine glass, spilling the wine over my friend's designer purse. The bus boy walked away seeing what happened and didn't say a word. Broken glass fell into her purse. After fishing out the shards of glass out of her purse, we told our waiter what had happened. To our surprise, he wasn't aware of our situation. He didn't apologize. He didn't offer any compensation for our ruined meal considering that a $600 purse was ruined and our wine was wasted.I called all of my friends, made sure that future parties go to another restaurant and reservations were cancelled.Cafe Bizou needs to better train all of its staff to keep their customers secure in the fact that random incidents don't leave a bad taste in their mouths. Cons: older decor, waiting to sit, horrible service more

Waiter was very attentive. Food was excellent, very good value for portions served. more

Great Place 9/14/2005

It's hard to find a great place - and this is one of them. Bring you girl here, fill her up with some good food and wine, and she will probably swallow your desert later. Pros: can bring wine Cons: can get crowded more
