Food quality can be inconsistent 4/6/2009

My wife always raved about the Garbage salad they used to offer at the downtown location. We stopped in to the Mequon restaurant on a whim because we were in the area and she had not had the Garbage salad in years. It was a disappointment, to say the least. Instead of fresh peel-and-eat shrimp and a homemade honey mustard dressing, she got small, canned shrimp and pre-packaged honey mustard on a bed of wilted lettuce with hearts of palm that tasted like they had been in the fridge for a few days. I had some chicken wings, which were kind of slimy and tasted as if they had been frozen for too long. We told the waitress that we just wanted to pay our bill and leave, since she noticed we hadn't eaten much of our food. She was very kind and took the salad off the bill, even though I was more than willing to pay. I would like to mention that I have been to this place before with work and the food has usually been good. However, the items I got were their Pork sandwich and a burger. I would just say stick to the basic 'bar food' items and avoid anything else, just to be sure. Even though I don't live around there, the bar area is big and seems like a cool place to have a drink or two. Pros: Nice location, Large bar area Cons: Food quality is poor, not fresh more

worst dining experience ever 1/7/2006

This was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had. The service was terrible. First the waiter had trouble understanding our order. Then he forgot our soups, and when we politely asked for them, he actually started arguing with us and telling us we never ordered them. Later, a different waitress came and asked if we needed any more drinks, which we ordered. Then the original waiter came and asked if we needed drinks and we told him the other waitress was getting them. He got a major attitude and said ""Well she can't get drinks, I have to get them. What do you want?"" Like we're supposed to know she can't get drinks. He recieved a tiny tip only because of his fake apology at the end. On the plus side, the food was really amazing, but I will not go there again. Pros: Great food Cons: Service, Service, Service more

pass it up! 9/24/2005

A couple years ago the food was great. Tonight was a different story. Ribs were dry and chewy. The only seasoning you could taste was salt. I kept biting on tiny chips of bone. Yuk! Au gratin potatoes? I think not. Potatoes smothered in Velveeta, maybe. The spinach and artichoke dip was mushy and flavorless. Best I can say is the soup was good. $14 for chicken?? It must have been the one that laid the golden egg .. and it was about that old and tough! Never had a McRib but I would opt for one before going back to Brew City. Pros: clean, roomy, comfortbale Cons: bad food more

Not for Vegetarians 7/15/2005

As a liberal vegetarian, I do not discriminate my friends for being meat eaters and I occasionally go to lunch with them. Brew City has next to nothing vegetarian. I know it is a barbecue place, but still. I personally try to go somewhere else when the restaurant decision is left to me unless I am in the mood for a salad or a salad or a salad. more

Great Food and Service 7/1/2005

Brew City is one of those places where everyone can find something they really enjoy. The barbeque is exceptional (the baby back ribs are the best in town) and there are a lot of other choices including sandwiches and salads. It's a really friendly place and the food is always good. The interior is separated into several rooms - most of them have fireplaces and beautiful views. There's a peacock cage in the back and there are dozens of white bunnies running around the property. On busy nights, we sometimes have to wait for a table, but the hostess is exceptionally friendly and helpful and the waitstaff is attentive and courteous. We have also tried their take-out service and found that the food is fresh and prepared in about 20 minutes. Pros: Variety of choices, Very Accomodating, Good for Large Groups more
