Girls Night Out 5/19/2010

Me and some of my girls wanted to do something fun and different so we decided to go bowling. We went on a Monday night and they were having a special, so right from the start things were going well. We had to wait a little because it was super busy but we just hung at the bar so it wasn't a big deal - we all got to catch up. We ended up playing two games, having some drinks and pizza. Our waitress was great and although we are horrible bowlers, I don't think we all laughed that hard in awhile! The con - honestly I hate bowling shoes - that was my only complaint. Pros: Great Service Cons: I hate bowling shoes more

Something a little different :) 5/16/2010

I had my party last Friday at Carnival - it was amazing. I used a service called BIRTHDAY PARTY BOOKER. COM, which was able to secure me a free bottle of vodka and table for me/friends to hang out at. I thought the room was a blast - it had something for everybody, which is why it was such a success. The drinks weren't too expensive, the free bottle of vodka that birthday party booker got me really sealed the deal. I recommend Carnival to anybody looking to reach outside their comfort zone in order to have a wonderful time - definitely use the service though to plan, as I think they are able to secure cool deals, etc. Thanks! Pros: Dunk Tanks, Popcorn, Great Music Cons: Elevator, Cover after 12:00 more

Great place for birthdays 5/4/2010

My birthday party at Carnival was amazing! I was looking at a few options for my birthday and decided to check out Carnival on a weekend. The event planner was there onsite and showed me around. She was really helpful in helping me pick a table and bottle packages. On the day of my birthday...we arrived with a large group and the doorman was really accommodating in making sure we didn't wait in line and got right in. The music was great...and the games were really fun. Overall everyone was really nice and helpful in making us feel welcomed! more

Very accomodating! 4/14/2010

I just co-hosted a friends 30th birthday party here for 100 guests. We had rented the Funhouse for ourselves from 8-10pm which was definitely the way to go (paying per person for open bar). The place was very accommodating -- opening up an hour early for us to set up & decorate. The manager remained on site the whole time and were very helpful and friendly. The DJ was great & took our requests. Everyone had a really terrific time. I would definitely recommend it for a private event. Pros: Fun atmosphere, lots of seating more

Unfortunate experience 4/11/2010

The only reason why I gave this place the rating I did was because of poor treatment. They would have received a 4. They have a great theme, the music is pretty good. Unfortunately this past weekend I had a bad experience there. The bouncers discriminate against minorities.. Sad but true. I wish I had pictures to show you and I regret not taking them but my family and I paid for Table service at this establishment. Our friend was wearing jeans like most of the men who were standing on line. They claim his pants were "baggy." I kid you not he had some relaxed fit jeans on which were slightly folded up with some dress shoes and a Polo and they would not allow him in because of what they claimed above. Next thing you know a Caucasian male is online with "baggy" jeans i mean they were ruffled on his shoes and they allowed him to enter not to mention the many other men in the place who looked like their jeans could use a 5 inch hem! Then some of my cousins arrived at 12 am and they tried telling them that because it was 12 am they had to pay the cover charge of 10 bucks which1 isn't an issue but the cover charge was already included in the table service we paid for regardless of the time. When we spoke to the manager about our situation all she could say about our friend is that its up to the bouncer. The way we took it, is that the bouncers have more say than she did! unfortunate situation and we never even received and apology! Mind you we had a party there 2 weeks prior! Pros: Great theme Cons: Allows Bouncers to discriminate! more

Such a fun place 4/7/2010

I went to Carnival last weekend for my 28th birthday and had the best time. The concept of the space is really fun and so different from the traditional clubs in the city. My guests and I had so much fun playing the games and I dunked the guy in the tank on my second try....thank you very much! I love the stilt walker and woman who made the dirty balloon animals. She made me a rally funny hat, but I won't mention what it was of on here. ;-) I'm going to go back this weekend if I can wrangle up a group of friends. I also want to mention how great the event staff is. It was so easy to get what I needed booked a head of time. I suggest this place to anyone who wants a different nightlife experience and is looking to have a great time with friends! Pros: Great concept, fun drink menu, lots of things to do more

Pretty good time! 4/3/2010

I went to Carnival for my 23rd birthday party. I went with 6 friends and I did not book it in advance or anything since I knew I could just get there when they opened. No problems getting in, everyone seemed friendly. Good games, Good carnival snacks (although they should add Funnel Cake) and the Atmosphere was really nice. My only complaints were expensive (although I was expecting that) and no seating. Because we didn't book in advance, we had nowhere to sit... which sucked since our feet were killing us. Would I go again? Not 100% sure. But if you do go, do not go until 10:30pm/11pm because before that... it was really lame since no one was dancing, playing games or anything! Pros: Games, Food, Atmosphere Cons: Not enough seating, Pricy more

Horrible Experience!! 3/29/2010

I went to Bowlmor this past Friday night to celebrate a friend's 21st birthday. Myself and the group I was with arrived early so decided to wait for everyone else upstair in the lounge. I've never before heard of paying a cover to get into another room within one establishment, but ok fine we are willing to pay. The bouncer tells us that one of my friends will not be allowed upstair because his jeans are too baggy. His jeans were loose fitting but I would not say baggy and he had a belt so they were at his waist. I asked to speak to a manager who assesed the situaton and decided the jeans were not baggy but said they would still not be able to go upstairs because they were wearing sneakers. Clearly if the bouncer and the manager have different perceptions of what is passable, there is no real standard for their dresscode which is silly and unprofessional. Although this turned us off early on we stayed and bolwed. Throughout the night our group was played close by the management, constantly having people come over to us to remind us of the time, or tell us we could not play anymore games. We ended up spending hundreds of dollars that night including $170 on two huge fishbowls. At the end of the night there was some drama because we wanted to take the fishbowl our but they said it was not allowed. However the issue quickly changed to how we were being treated in regards to this situation. The management, especially one particular bouncer were completely rude and nasty and treated us as if we were second class patrons. I hate to pull the race card but I feel as if this is one incident where it is necessary. I had a horrible experience and would NEVER go back there again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. I have never been so disgusted by an establishment and the only reason I even give it one star is because citysearch requires that as a minimum. They clearly want a certain crowd and cater to a cetain type of patron. Not even their music was diverse. I later heard that there is currently a law suit pending against them by people with similar claims of racism and profiling. it's just too bad they beat me to it. Cons: Racial profiling, bigotry, expensive and snotty more

Guaranteed Good Time! 3/1/2010

After searching for the perfect place to have my 22nd birthday I finally decided to book it through birthdaypartybooker and chose Carnival. (This is coming from someone who doesn't go out in NYC a lot so I really didn't know exactly what I was getting myself into.) None of my friends had been there before and there were all sorts of mixed reviews online. But let me tell you, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO. Honestly, after reading some of the bad reviews people wrote I wonder if they were actually even at this Carnival in NYC. There is something for everyone at Carnival from a dance floor, great music, games, prizes, plenty of seating, and food and drinks. It literally was one thing after another of awesome things. So honestly, disregard any negative review you read.. this place was GREAT! All of my friends had the time of their life and continue to rave about it. My friend wants to go back for her 22nd birthday now too! Do yourself a favor and definitely check this place out... you will NOT be dissapointed. The only con? It's rather pricey... we didn't pay cover because we booked it through birthdaypartybooker but I was told it's a $20 cover. On top of that, (from what I can remember) average mixed drink price was about $12-$19...but they tasted good! Pros: Something for everyone! Cons: Pricey more

So Much Fun! 2/19/2010

So I went to Bowlmor with some friends this past weekend and we had so much fun! It was my first time going, so I didn't know what to expect, but from the minute we walked in, it was amazing. They had a guy that took you up there ( which I thought was pretty cool) and the staff was pretty nice, I couldn't stop looking around at everything! We all enjoyed some bowling, food and drinks - which were a little on the pricey side - but to me it is understandable - it is New York. I would recommend this place to those looking to do something different and fun with some friends. Pros: Fun atmosphere, good crowd Cons: Slightly pricey more

Great birthday spot 1/24/2010

I was searching high and low for a place for my boyfriend's surprise birthday party, I didn't want the average expensive place with a lot of attitude and drama. I'm glad to say that is not what happened at all. I booked the VIP table for the price of 1 bottle (great) and that was it. All my guests got in easily and didn't have to wait in line, the service was great. Some people here have said it can get packed, I went on a Friday night and it really wasn't too packed at all, there were a lot more people as it got later, but it was really fine. The one sucky thing was that the line for the bathroom got long. But honestly the DJ was good, the service was great, there were no problems what so ever, and everyone had a good time. Just be prepared, if you get a table...ask for a table in the Funhouse (highly suggested if you want a place to sit). Pros: Great music, nice doorman Cons: Long bathroom line more

10th Birthday 1/17/2010

I was really please to have plan my son's 10th birthday at Bowlmor Lanes. After searching all over the city, my co-worker had recommend that I looked into Bowlmor Lanes. I stopped in there and took a tour of the space. I was introduced to an event planner which sat me down and gave me a few different options. We decided the kids would bowl and eat then were able to play at Carnival upstairs. Overall the price worked out within our budget and everyone had fun. Thanks so much! Pros: Good pricing, games at Carnival more

Something different 1/16/2010

NYC was long over due for something unique and Carnival was exactly that. I decided to plan my boyfriend's 25th birthday at Carnival after stopping by and seeing the place. Althought most people preferred the private room (Funhouse), I thought getting a table in the main room would be better. None of our friends had any issues getting in. Music was good...games were fun. Although the service could have been better. more

Last weekend 1/11/2010

My best friend and i decided to organize a get together since we had friends from college visiting. It ended up raining and we cancel our plans to go bar hopping. Since we live around the corner from bowlmor...we decided to go bowling. Turned out the place was packed. The hostess was nice enough to accommodate our group...we only had to wait for 15 mins. The service overall was exception which is always rare in NYC these days! more

New Year's Eve 1/5/2010

I wanted to write about my experience at Carnival on New Year's. My friends and I couldn't have had a better night. Last year we had a major nightmare at one of the nightclubs in the city with the place being overcrowded. We called the Carnival ahead of time since our group was over 25 people. We were told to purchase tickets for the Funhouse since it was more private. We ended up upgrading to a VIP table and we got a discount. The DJ was amazing and our waitress made sure there were enough cups, ice and juices all night. I would definitely recommend this place for parties. Everyone was so accommodating! more
