Best

During a recent visit to BOA on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, we indulged in their 5 - 7 PM weekday...

Food was so overrated. I will give them the kudos for decor, ambiance and service. Our waiter was great and the bus-boy couldn't top feeding us bread. But we ordered 2 glasses of ...

great intro dinner to So Cal. 10/22/2002

We dined at Balboa on our first trip to LA from northern California. We were looking for somewhere trendy but welcoming and we certainly found it. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Our server was very enjoyable and capable. It was a Sunday night and the wine list selections were 1/2 price which was a pleasant surprise. The escarot was excellent and we also particularly enjoyed our veal chop and creamed spinach. The decor and atmosphere was great. good job!!!! Pros: friendly, comfortable, trendy more

A steak lover's delight! 10/20/2002

My wife and I were not seated right away, probably because we were 10-15 minutes late. Other than that, the service was among the best throughout the entire dining experience. Being an huge fan of aged New York steaks, trying this restaurant was an absolute must. The New York steak was fantastic, but I would have to say Nick and Stef's is the best steak restaurant(New York steak there is the bomb!) to date. (Tried Ruth's Chris, Morton's, Lawry's, 555 East as well). The sides were excellent, we had mashed potatoes, asparagus, and marinated mushrooms. The bread pudding dessert was also great. I would definitely recommend this place. Pros: Ambiance, Great Steaks Cons: Expensive parking, Noisy more

Excellent! 10/12/2002

This place being a year old has it all. Ambiance, food and people. I really loved the food. The Caesar salad is excellent and made table side. The choices of meats were great. Top notch quality. Our waiter was attentive and prompt. Cocktails are done right. Pros: Steaks/Meats, Ambiance, Service Cons: Small Place more

Worth it! 9/17/2002

The view from the balcony was absolutely worth the price of this restaurant. Not to mention that the food is sensational, and the service impeccable. Pros: great view, great service Cons: parking more

Bland Food 9/4/2002

Food was so overrated. I will give them the kudos for decor, ambiance and service. Our waiter was great and the bus-boy couldn't top feeding us bread. But we ordered 2 glasses of Tattinger and it was warm :( and our steak was overcooked and tough, oh and did I say pricey. We even tried the Escargot which was totally bland, will except the garlic flavor but I could of had the same taste with a piece of tofu. Pros: Cool decor, Great Service, Beautiful People Cons: Bland Food, Pricey more

Best steak ever!!! 8/2/2002

The lay-out and general design of the restaurant are amazing, what I would describe as a retro-contemporary. Prompt service and upper class atmosphere but not in a ""snooty"" way. It was a nice change from 'Hungry Hunter' or 'Outback'. I had the Argentine Filet with creamy horseradish sauce that was probably the best I've ever had. The group I was with shared all the side dishes witch were excellent as well. A nice take on the steakhouse. Pros: Int. Design, Service, Food Cons: Price more

A real restaurant in LA! 8/2/2002

If you have ever been to San Francisco and experienced real food and service, you will love Balboa. This makes perfect sence since the GM is from SF. The staff is starchy and knowlegable and chef Joni Fay Hill makes the best steak in town. If you are daring, ask for the mac and cheese (better than my mom's) Joni style (extra crispy top). The wine list is full of names you may not know, but don't fret. Have fun and try the sparkling shiraz! Pros: Food, Service, celebrity watching Cons: sunset traffic, getting a reservation, craig katz more

yummy steak 7/29/2002

The salads are fantastic, too! I recommend you visit the lounge for a pre or post dinner cocktail as well. Very swanky. Pros: steak, salads, atmosphere more

Great Value & Location 6/27/2002

Looking for a great hotel in L.A.? Stay at the Grafton. Located right on Sunset Blvd., this hotel has a great vibe and the staff is very friendly. Great bar & restaurant in the hotel, as well. more

Great steaks on Sunset Strip 6/11/2002

Great steak, good martinis and right in the middle of the Sunset Strip. Restaurant is smalll so call for reservation. more

Sunset Hipster Dining 6/4/2002

Decor, ambience, service and food all top-notch. Interesting and creative rubs and sauces for your meat option. Hip place to dine with a retro look and feel in the decor. Food was excellent, pricey but still a good value. I'll dine there as often as I can afford to, will recommend it to friends. Pros: Chic Ambience, Food, Service Cons: Expensive, Space more
