Best

I have been working with rescue dogs for over 20 years and over this time have had alot of experience with veterinarians. We took out beloved Suzie to 2 vets over the span of one ...

Worst

We started taking our dog there when we got him, about a year ago. I had never had a pet so I didn't know what to expect when going to the Vet. For a long time it was a enjoyabl...

Worst Receptionist Ever! 2/24/2007

I never even got as far as the office. I was put on hold 5 times and then disconnected on. I called back and was put on hold few more times. I can understand that she must have been busy, but each time she came on the line she did not wait to hear my response, and I had an animal that needed immediate care. When she finally came on the line to see what I needed, and quickly told me there was nothing available that day and hung up on me. Perhaps the animal care at this place is wonderful, but I guess I'll never know. They need to either get this woman some help in the office and give her a little extra coaching or hire someone better able to do the job. more

Not the same place 1/17/2007

I have been a client th this hospital for years and I am sad to see my favorite doctor, Dr.Taylor, has retired. I tried the new owner in the past but I do not feel comfortable with him. I saw the compassion and care Dr.Taylor provided my pets for years and I don't feel the hospital will be the same. I feel Dr. Vantrese is more interested in my money than the health of my animals. During my pet's exam with Dr.Vantrese, he kept trying to push high priced tests and wanted to perform surgery at that moment. When I went to another vet the next day for a second opinion, we agreed it was nothing more than an upset stomach that my dog had. Sure enough, he was feeling better the next day. I knew something was wrong when a lot of the staff that I had been greeted by for years were no longer there and the atmosphere was never the same after. I will miss the hospital very much. Pros: great location Cons: no Dr.Taylor more

Go to Dr. Taylor, not Van Trease 10/17/2006

Dr. Taylor is one of the best (non-salesman) vets I've ever been to. He knows my cats and my crazy cats respond postively to him. more

great experience 6/29/2006

I took my exotic cat there for declaw and spay. I had an excellent experience! The tech Steve was amazing! I have never seen anyone give my cat so much love and attention. After the surgery, I called 4 different times because I had so many questions and was a little paranoid about how she was doing (she had no complications- I'm just over-protective). They were so patient with me! The vet himself got on the phone to answer questions and tell me that if I had any other questions that I should feel free to call back. The customer service from the receptionists is okay, but the techs and vets have all been outstanding (which is what counts to me). I have now switched my dog over to this vet as well (from West Lynn Vet Clinic). Also- the prices at South Lamar seem much more reasonable than other vets. Pros: great vets, tech Steve was amazing, reasonable prices Cons: office staff could be more friendly more

Great one visit, terrible the next 3/14/2006

I'm split on my experience at South Lamar Animal Hospital. I saw Dr. Ragland on my first visit. I found her very caring and sweet and generally seemed concerned about my cat's problems. The nurses seemed a little lost and the receptionist was overwhelmed but overall my first visit was pleasant. My second visit was with Dr. VanTrease. I found him to be unattentive and distracted. He was 20 minutes late for my appointment and just didn't seem focused on what we were discussing. I tried to explain what was going on with my cat and I kept having to repeat myself. I also didn't like the way he talked to his staff outside of the room. Not a great guy. I would not leave my pet with him. Pros: Dr.Ragland, location Cons: Dr.VanTrease, staff, dirty lobby more

Comapassion for pet owners 1/11/2006

South lamar animal hospital was the greatest vet to take my cat to.I have never been there just looked thru yellow pages for a vet that could meet my cats needs medical wise and affordable.Rolo my cat was ran over and i had to consider what was going to be needed.Possible treatment for her broken leg and possible euthenization. The staff was very compassionate and took their time helping me out with my decision. The amputation on Rolos leg was affordable and the vet staff and vet always kept me informed and took care of her while she was there and on her follow ups......I refer the hospital to everyone.... Pros: inexpensive, large waiting room, great staff Cons: location, always busy more

Excellent Experience 8/1/2005

I just moved from another state and was terribly worried that I wouldn't find as kind and concerned a vet as I had. Dr. VanTrease and his staff exceeded my expectations. He was very thourough explaining the problem they found. I never had a vet call in the evening to check on my dog. They were very timely and prompt seeing me. Again, Dr. VanTrease took all the time I needed so I could understand the serious problem my dog had. I'm happy to report that my boy is doing great and would recommend this veterinary office to any and all. more

Recommend This Hospital !! 8/1/2005

No problems here. We have been a long time customer of South Lamar Animal Hospital for nearly 12 years. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats. Needless to say we are regular visitors. Dr. VanTrease has been a tremendous addition. Back in Nov. 2004, his surgical help was critical in removing a large tumor in one of our dogs belly. No doubt his quick diagnosis and surgical skill saved her life. Dr. Taylor is just the best too. You won't go wrong trusting your pets as we do to this wonderful veterinary staff. Pros: doctor skills, price, compassion more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! 7/14/2005

I'll make this brief- this clinic is poorly staffed with their lack of knowledge and the vet on duty was the pushiest doctor I've ever delt with. I don't trust this place with the care of my cat. After being in the room woth him for 5 minutes and seeing him be rough with my cat, I knew I would never return. Horrible vet! Cons: doctor, staff, doctor more

great place gone bad 6/8/2005

Dr. Taylor is great in that he cares about my dog. He would get on the ground and say hello to my golden retriever. The last time I went in for a simple, routine exam, I saw the new vet/owner, dr. Buck Van Trease. He didn't seem to care about my dog or me. When I would try to tell him something about my dog, he'd interupt me to talk about himself or something unrelated. Then, he kept trying to tell me my dog needed his ears treated but had to be sedated to do so. Dr. Taylor hasn't sedated my dog in the past. I would definetly not see the new doctor. Plus, the staff that was friendly and knew what they were doing is no longer there. I wonder if it has to do with the new doctor? Pros: Dr. Taylor, somewhat clean Cons: Dr. van Trease, wait time more

I agree! 5/29/2005

I have been a long time client of South Lamar Animal Hospital until I found out it was sold and under new ownership. That explains the changes I've seen. This clinic went from fantastic to way below average. I used to be seen at the time my appointment was scheduled and now I always have to wait at least 20 minutes. I have met the new doctor and he is pushy like i read in the other reviews. He didn't even apologize for making me wait 45 minutes one time. He kept calling my dog by the wrong name even though it was in front of him. The staff has totally changed and seems lost when trying to do anything. It's also way over priced for the care you recieve. This new guy wants your money it seems like more than caring for your pet, which is why i left. Cons: wait times, doctors, service more

if you like salesmen this is your place 5/26/2005

this was my first and last visit to this animal hospital. my dog needed a simple bordatella vaccine and my usual vet was full. this place got my that day but i paid for leaving my vet. the doctor was to simply give the vaccine but instead tried to say i didn't take care of my dog because his ears were dirty and tried to pressure me into leaving the dog so he could sedate him and clean his ears and maybe even clean his teeth. i told him all I need was theis shot but he kept pressuring me until I could tell he was bothered by me. I found the new doctor to be rude and pushy and am glad this is not my regual vet! Cons: doctors, prices more
