Catfish! 11/11/2010

Your food selection is fantastic! I have eaten here 4 or 5 times and have always enjoyed it. Street parking is a little tough, but this place is good. Anytime I mention Blue Ribbon, anyone who knows of it gives it accolades! more

The worst experience ever. 8/2/2009

Last night my wife and I went to Blue Ribbon in park slope. We arrived in New York 2 days ago and expected to have a nice bite and some easy ambience. A friend of mine, a Wall Street lawyer and a foodie recommended this spot. We weren't looking for the best food or service just a decent place for a pregnant woman and her husband. We set at the bar, our favorite spot and I ordered beer from ""Adam"" that was quite friendly ; Then we ordered food. We wanted to start with some appetizers before checking on the king crab as Adam recommended. The beetroot salad was flavorless and had 3 cubes of tomato on top. The asparagus were blanched (cooked) probably at the same time we landed at JFK and the ribs, a plastic like dry pieces marinated and braised in an artificial flavor sauce were simply bad. The highlight of our night was a drunken guy named Brian. The village full of Blue ribbon in Brooklyn. Apparently this guy is a usual at the bar. He set next to us and started talking to my wife. We were friendly until he became rude and obnoxious. (Asking my wife what was she doing with an ""ugly guy"" referring to me). We tried to be polite and Adam tried to get rid of this guy and was apologizing repeatedly. When he failed to get rid of this drunken fool he sent us OUR CHECK as if he wanted us out. The manager that was at the end of the bar babbling with some waiters did nothing. We decided to take off leaving the free desert that was sent to us at the bar. Don't go there! The food is less than average and the bar is a neighborhood spot for older, aggressive drunk locals Pros: u'll find a place to sit Cons: all the rest more

One of my fav places! 5/22/2009

This is the best fish restaurant in Brooklyn. Everything is always fresh and delicious. If they told me the wait would be 2 hours I really would not care, this is how good this place is. For years now it has always kept its good reputation unlike a lot of places when they get a good name they than go down hill. It is a bit expensive but you get what you pay for! Pros: Food, ambience more

Manhattan in Park Slope 1/29/2009

This place is fun and exciting. The bar is lively and a great place for a single to snatch a bite and chat up the locals. The Seafood is always fresh and the oysters are perfect. I always yearn for whelk season and run right over for my share. Pros: Super Fresh Food, Great Bar, Pro Staff Cons: Busy on weekend, a little pricey more

I just go straight to Blue Ribbon because I always get great service, great food, great ambiance, just a wonderful experience every time I go back. Tonight will be my 5th time going back in the last 2 months. Pros: Food & Service Cons: Nothing! more

Long waits but worth it. 9/3/2008

We had made plans to have dinner at the Italian restaurant next door but they were closed for Labor Day weekend, so we stumbled into Blue Ribbon as it was the only other upscale place worthy of a birthday dinner. It was a Friday night and the hostess warned us of a 45 minute wait. However the bartender kept us occupied with a free drink and we were actually seated in 20 minutes. The food was inventive and delicious. My steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The service was great and our waiter was casual but informed. Pros: great food and service Cons: attracts loud, raughty 20 somethings. more

Great Food but Poor Service 8/11/2008

The food at Blue Ribbon was excellent. I would recommend anyone with a lot of time to spare to check out this place. My one disturbance was that it took too long to be served between each course. My guest and I thought we were being used to keep the restaurant looking pretty. Otherwise, it's a definite place to go to and definitely to go to again, again and again. more

amazing service 7/4/2008

I love this place. The food is amazing and the staff is so attentive and fast. My steak was cooked perfectly and the chocolate bruno was one of the best desserts I ever had. It very relaxing and they don't rush to leave after you finish your meal. My waiter Kevin was very knowledgeable and gave some great suggestions. I will going back soon. Pros: Service, Food Cons: n/a more

All around on point 6/27/2008

Blue Ribbons dinning experience is more than up to par. I began my dinner with their chicken wings, which were excellent, and seemed to be to be free range. As an entree I had their special ""Steak w/ roasted peppers, peppered cheddar, and cornbread, along with their Sangiovese which proved by recommendation to match well. Although the dish was great I had asked for the steak medium and it had seemed to come medium well to well. I personally like that line of pink in the middle of my steak, as I often order medium rare. It's always nice to see how a kitchen puts out a steak. Don't get me wrong though I enjoyed it immensely. Following I indulged in their bread pudding which was ok, a little dry but the ice cream with it brought the dish together for a wonderful desert which I enjoyed with their Grahams 10yr Tawny and a shot of espresso. All in all I think Blue Ribbon is a great restraint with good food, a versatile menu and impeccable service. I'll say it again the service was over the top and as I looked around the restaurant it seemed to me that the rest of the guest were enjoying the experience. I'll have to return to try some of the other dishes in the future! Most definitely! Pros: Service is outstanding Cons: Could use a better dessert menu more

Always a premier experience at this terrific Brooklyn upscale restaurant 4/21/2008

This is a restaurant that pays attention to the details. Everyone is attentive, the waiters, the managers, the bus persons. They provide great service without being intrusive. The menu is is large and varied , and the kitchen delivers no matter what your order. We've had dinner at Blue Ribbon dozens of times over the years and I cannot recall a bad experience. There are only two downsides to BR: the crowds that appear as if by magic every night, and the somewhat overpriced wine list. But if you want a really fine dinner experience in Park Slope, head thee over to Blue Ribbon. It really doesn't get any better. Pros: Great food, great service Cons: Gets very crowded, high wine prices more

better then your favorite nyc restaurant 9/3/2007

?Everything?s better in Brooklyn? or so the Brooklynites say and on this occasion they are spot on. This is no diamond in the ruff. Park Slope is the quintessential modern day city hiding in the shadow of its older brother. Fifth Ave otherwise known, as Restaurant Row is a culinary hot spot with many the outstanding locales offering a wide array of fabulous meals with the sophistication of the big city but the welcoming of your neighborhood haunts with Blue Ribbon winning the prize. I first fell in love with it?s older, smaller brother in Soho dinning next to the likes of Robert DeNiro (no joke) after a very very long wait at a neighboring Spring Street bar. Here in BRB the bar is longer and the wait is shorter because of the much larger dinning room. Don?t get me wrong you may still have to join in a toast of champers at the bar since they only take reservations for parties of five or more but it is well worth it. Everyone is Robert DeNiro here. The management and staff are by far the most attentive, friendly, knowledgeable group to come across in a while. I eat here at least two if not three times a month. There has been occasion that I?ve even dinned here three times in one week! Its clear I eat out often and cook much less therefore when I tell you the food here is impeccable, by any standards, heed my warning and head out there tonight. Every meal has its own agenda of teasing your pallet and leaving you wanting for more. I?ve eating nearly every meal here with not a bad thing to say about one. My favorites are: Skate is sliced thin and long w/ shrimp, bacon, potatos, capers to make the perfect bite every time; Lobster is classic and the chef is nice enough to de-shell it when asked; Salmon is savory; Hanger Stake is mouthwatering; Raw Bar is the best in town and the presentation and eagerness to please make this outing a memorable one. Go now but don?t tell to many people. Keep it our little secret. Pros: food, service, ambience, large menu Cons: you can't eat every meal here more

Beef Marrow Delight 8/4/2007

It happened to be a Friday night when we visited this eatery in Park Slope specifically to feed a craving for beef marrow with oxtail sauce. We didn't have reservations but were lucky enough to be offered a seat at a table just after ordering our first drink at the bar. Originally the wait was anticipated at 20min. We order the oysters to start including a one selection from the East Coast and one from the West Coast. The serving was fresh and light on this steamy August night. Of course we had the beef marrow to share between the two of us which was really DELICIOUS. We ended up splitting the hanger steak with mushrooms since the appetizers were robust and satisfying. The service was extremely attentive, the crowd eclectic, ambiance bustling (even a tad bit loud since the room was fully occupied but not packed). If you can get here to have a special dinner, go. You won't be disappointed. My mind is still lingers on the delights of last night. Pros: Sophistocated without being uptight Cons: If you don't live in Park Slope it'll take some effort to get there more

DEFINATELY NOT THE BEST SUSHI IN BROOKLYN 2/20/2007

I heard this place was the best sushi in Brooklyn, but its not. The sushi here is extra salty. I've been here a couple of times and each time, no matter which roll i order its saltier than it should be. The quality of the sushi is just ok, there are better places in the Slope and much cheaper. Nice decor. Pros: decent sushi, nice decor Cons: there are better sushi places in Brooklyn and they are cheaper more

Sophisticated, but not pretentious 1/20/2007

My finace and I have been to Blue Ribbon Brooklyn several times - a few of those times were ""by accident"", when we had planned to go to other neighborhood restaurants and the wait was so long that we just ended up back at our old standby. We've never been disappointed. The food is very good, and there's enough variety on the menu for all (raw oysters or fried chicken? try the tomato soup!). The waiters are courteous and attentive. The prices are admittedly a bit high, but it's a great place to go if you're looking for somewhere special. Pros: service, atmosphere, food Cons: prices, long wait on a busy night more

bread pudding... 11/20/2006

Fantastic food, and the bar and wait staff are delightful. I'm quickly becoming a regular. They're open really late, so it's a perfect last stop of the night for a glass of wine and some bread pudding. Pros: Staff, Food, Hours more
