Who's on first?!!! 11/29/2014

The staff whom I spoke to are nice enough, but lack any attention to detail, or are poorly trained on using their own system for recording charges. I went in two weeks before Thanksgiving to reserve boarding space or three dogs. The young lady at the computer kept wanting to charge me for a 3rd day, instead of only two that I needed. Finally, a mature lady with red hair came over to help her and I paid in advance. I came to pick up our dogs after the oliday and was told that I still owed $80 for the 3rd day! I had to be very blunt that I would not pay for a service I had not received before the young girl would go to the back and verify number of days of service with the doctor. She came back and said it was their mistake. The next morning, we realized that they had not returned the dog food we had left. I went back for it Saturday morning and realized the scoop is missing from the container. They are still looking for the scoop. If you do not mind watching people work for you without more

Editorial review from Citysearch 3/29/2014

The doctors there are great!I took my border collie there when she had a torn acl and even though she was 11 yrs old at the time we went ahead with the surgery because if we didn't her last few years with us would have been miserable since she has always been such an active dog. To this day she loves to be active and we wouldn't have had that without such great doctors! I truly thank the staff there who helped my skyler enjoy whatever years she still has with us,two years later and she is still going strong more

Dr U, was rude and disrespectful. Got 5/25/2013

Dr U, was rude and disrespectful. Got really upset that I said I might have to reschedule if I wasn't seen after already being there for over an hour. He didn't speak to me for awhile after finally entering the examine room. Didn't introduce himself or shake my hand. Called his friend who referred us to complain about me and said that he would be nicer to me next time. There won't be a next time. We were planning on canceling the follow up but was certainly advised by the person who referred us after he heard the ugly way the dr spoke about me. more

poor service 9/10/2011

We went to Blockhouse a year ago and at that time the office seemed friendly and competent. This time the experience was totally different. We arrived for our 5:30 appt. at 5:20. We stood in front of the receptionist who, by 5:30, had literally not looked up from her computer once to even say, "I'll be right with you". We were right in front of her and she never acknowledged us. A man at another computer station seemed to be multi-tasking. He said he'd be with us in a minute and then tried to help a number of other people who were just sitting in the waiting room, none of them smiling, evidently waiting for their pets. They were there before us and I didn't see one of them get their pet before we went into the exam room. We waited in that room for about another 15 minutes before anyone even came in. We gave that person the information about the dog. He left and about 10 minutes later another tech came in who did not have the information about our dog accurate, and we had to start all over again. more

Avoid this ripoff factory! 8/26/2011

What a bunch of rude people in this place. Our cat developed a urinary blockage. We brought him in the next morning and was told that it would require a 2 or 3 day stay. We were quoted a price of $1000-1500 which would include aggressive treatment to include IV, X-rays, boarding, food etc. We said let's try the most conservative approach to bring the price down. So they agreed to inject the fluid under the skin instead of a IV and to not do the X-rays. We were told this would dramatically lower the price. Well 7 days later he was finally able to go home. The bill was $875. All they did was insert a catheter for 4 days and after that they manually expressed his bladder(they push on it to make them urinate) and gave him oral antibiotics. And they said all that cost $875? Seemed a bit high to me. Finances are tight for us, for many of the same reasons they are tight for other people in this economy right now. So I asked if it was possible to pay $600 now, $150 next month and $125 the mont more

So I asked if it was possible to pay $600 now, $150 next month and $125 the month after that. Nope! They wanted ALL their money RIGHT NOW. NO EXCEPTIONS. Per their rude office manager this was straight from Dr. Urbanczyk himself. Not to mention Dr. Urbanczyk was very rude to my wife at about day 5 when we were given wrong information about our cat. We were told by his vet tech that the cat was doing great and would be able to go home the next morning. My wife called and spoke to Dr. Urbanczyk who immediately got defensive and told her he was not ready to go home and was very short with my wife. After she told him what we were told and that there was a communication problem Dr. Urbanczyk did not have the common courtesy to apologize. He wouldn't even come out to talk about payment arrangements, only his rude office manager. Gone is the day when vets would work with their customers. i guess they are like everyone else now. It's all about money, money, money! Well as the owner of four animals he lost all future business with us. So buyer beware, you are nothing but a dollar symbol to these people and God forbid you have any extenuating circumstances because they only care about the bottom line here. Avoid this place. Most of the the other vets and staff get their caring attitudes from Dr. Urbanczyk who has a cold demeanor and lacks any type of warm, caring bedside manner. I've owned dogs and cats all of my adult life and was also raised with them and have had plenty of experience with vets over the years. Dr. Urbanczyk and his practice are without a doubt the worst vet clinic I have ever dealt with. I wish I had checked this site before I took my cat there. The negative reviews are almost an exact carbon copy of what I experienced. more

I do not agree 7/20/2011

Last month I read earlier reviews and emailed BHCAH what I found. Not believing those posts for a minute, mind you, as they sounded like sour grapes to me, having nothing to do with the care of their animals. Dr. U is treating my dog Buddy, an 8 yr old pomeranian. When we thought there was no hope for his condition, Dr. U proved otherwise providing medication that has made a difference. Even though Buddy is not up to par, I have every confidence that Dr. U and his staff will continue to find all means available to treat our beloved pet. Kim Messenger, and the rest of the staff, is very helpful and caring. Even though their days are extremely busy, time is always allowed, thus the lengthy wait at times. To me, the wait means they are spending the time necessary with every animal, not rushing. Dr. U has called me in the evening, more than once to discuss Buddy's welfare and condition. I am very pleased with this Animal Hospital and recommend them to everyone. more

VET HELL!! 6/2/2011

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!! These people are worse then terrible and it makes me sick to know they are in business and seeing animals in need of care. I don't think these people know how to take care of anything but themselves. Worst place ever! more

Customer BEWARE! 7/26/2010

I've used this vet for a number of years, and I used to be satisfied with what I considered good services. However, BCAH now seems to be mostly interested in the extras they can try to sell you and in gouging the price on whatever they can. Pros: Feels like an agricultural vet office Cons: Poor value. Poor customer service. Safety concerns. more

bad place for good care at a resonable price 2/24/2010

Blockhouse Creek Animal Hosp is WONDERFUL! 12/28/2009

They are wonderful with our German Shepards. And our sweet puppies are very difficult and require a lot of special attention when in the office or when boareded. I cannot say enough good things about the staff. more

What a bunch of uneducated unexperienced crooks! 11/12/2009

In my multiple experiences with this clinic, i can attest to the fact that these doctors, especially the owner of the practice, have no idea what they are doing outside of vaccines and preventatives. I've watched them over and over (as a licensed vet. tech and a former employee) waste people's money hand over fist. Being so close to austin with all of the veterinary specialists who are board certified and MUCH more capable of diagnosing and treating serious diseases. Instead of utilizing these facilities....or at least presenting it as an option....i watched the owner of this clinic "attempt" to treat and diagnose many difficult cases, costing the owners thousands of dollars, only to have them give up because their pet showed NO, absolutely NO, signs of improvement, so the clinic's advise was to euthanize rather than see a specialist. Not that it would matter, because by the time the clinic owner actually admits he has NO idea what's going on with the patient, the owner has exhausted th more

8/14/2009 First Time Visit 8/14/2009

8/14/2009\r Please check the BBB on this company you will find it interesting what you find. This was the first time appointment \r When we first got there the ladies didn't even acknowledge my baby or even any other dog that came in. It was not a friendly enviroment. We sat in the waiting room 40 minutes before we were brought back. My husband had to go out there and tell the front ladies something bc it was very annoying to have to wait so long. They had us waiting over an hour until the vet came in.We could hear other dogs crying which my son brought to my attention. The girl that comes in the back nor the doctor bothered to let my dog sniff them they just automatically go for his head which makes my dog jump because he doesn't know these people. Bad experience then they want to comment that my dog is standoffish. Of course anyone who has a dog knows you need to let them sniff you.Not go straight for there head. I do not recommend this place. Bandfield in Petsmart had more compassion t more

Good doctors - TERRIBLE office staff!! 10/21/2008

First off, I love the doctors. Thank you to especially Dr. Miller for his patience and understanding. I can put up with the fairly high prices and unreasonably long waits, but I don't think I can put up with their rude office staff any longer. Particularly Cookie. I have seen more customer service and just plain respect for human beings from sixteen-year-old McDonald's employees than from her. Why be so surly, when I just want my animals taken care of AND am willing to pay the price? I want my pet to be taken care of and be treated like a fellow human being. Apparently this is too much to ask. This is also not a one time incident. I have been taking my business to BHC for over ten years now and have never been treated with such disrespect! I've met squirrely, incompetent reception help at BHC which I can deal with, but uncalled for rudeness I just don't understand and it doesn't equal good business!! Pros: Great vets!! Cons: Office help, Cookie. . . more

The best vet clinic I've been to 4/24/2008

Dr. U and his staff are great, they are very caring and will always work you in, never turning away a sick animal. They are very professional and put the health of your animal first. Dr. U has been working with my cat's ongoing eye infection for months and he has been very thoughtful both towards my cat as well as for not charging for added office visits. For some complaining of the long wait: Dr. U was able to schedule my cat in several times for emergency surgeries and so for that a little added wait is nothing. The office is very busy, as they have a lot of clients, but they are very compassionate and loving towards your pet. I couldn't recommend Dr. U more--he goes that extra mile. Also, on Sundays when their offices are closed I've called them up and have left messages in an emergency and someone always called me back. With Dr. U it is obvious that he really does care, where as I've been to vets in the past who just view it as a job. I am so happy to live so close by to this clinic. Pros: They genuinely care--very professional and never turn away a sick animal. Cons: Sometimes you might have to wait if there are other emergencies. but health is more important than time. more
