Everything about Bistro Jeanty appeals: the ambiance, the service, the wonderful bistro menu and of course the food are / were all memorable and add up to a fine dining experience. We had lunch here a few days ago on a very hot August afternoon.
I had the signature appetizer, the CRÊME DE TOMATE EN CROUTE, and thought it was delicious; as was the QUICHE AUX POIREAUX. Here the waiter earned his keep: by guiding me away from the baked camembert (an appetizer off the daily special menu) when he heard I was going for the quiche.
You see I was thinking QUICHE LORRAINE, and not the gorgeous slab of quiche, laden with fontina, mozzarella and gruyere cheese, which they serve / create here. That would have been a week’s allotment of cheese for even the worst sort of cheese glutton.
The quiche came out looking like something you would see in a photo on the cover of Gourmet magazine, and both the quiche and the butter lettuce salad were delicious. But beware: the quiche is thick with cheese and is quite rich! This is not your average quiche du jour.
I would have preferred a bit less cheese in the quiche and a bit more poireaux, jambon and more of an “eggy” feel and flavor, but that’s a personal preference. My wife had the TERRINE DE LAPIN and the pig’s feet (off the daily special menu) and both were excellent.
I had no room for desert but my wife wanted some berries, which were not on the menu. The waiter didn’t bat an eye and suggested fresh strawberries with crème fraiche. The wine list was very good; all this with 2 glasses of delicious local chardonnay and a gratuity for less than $100. If only we lived closer! My compliments to: the chef, to the proprietor and to Marguerite Treat of Ascentia Wine Estates for the recommendation!
