Very Happy with Service! 10/21/2010

We were referred to Bethel Bakery by the Sheraton Station Square. What a blessing! From 300 miles away and over the phone, Anita and Jackie took care of my order. They were friendly and helpful. Accepted my calls every single time I called. Listened to my ideas, and made the 100th Anniversary cake just as I imagined. They delivered it to the hotel for the convention. The pictures and comments from the guests told me that all was perfect. Our full-size sheet cake was very beautiful with our company logo on it. The cake was decorated exactly as specified. It was also very good tasting. The price was absolutely reasonable. It was well worth it!! more

Embarrassed by the Cake! 8/3/2010

I used to love Bethel Bakery until I ordered my son's first birthday cake from them(July 2010). I drove 45 mins. in the car to order the cake and to take a picture that I had for thedecorator to follow. The cake was a pretty easy design for a ""Prince"" theme in shades of blues and a little yellow. I paid $87.00 for a PURPLE cake, that looked like my preschooler had written on. ""Happy 1st Birthday"" was printed and UNCAPITALIZED. It looked like they ran out of room so my son's name was scrunched to fit. The piping and the crown on the cake were uneven and off centered. It basically looked like a cake from someone's kitchen. \r My friend had the same Prince theme, got the cake from Costco for $17.00 and it was cuter than my $87.00 one. \r The cake itself was fresh and able to be eaten. When I complained they credited me $25.00 . Needless to say, they are not going to see me again. Wasn't worth the travel time or the money. I now agree with the other reviews and I think they are overrated. I was very disappointed and I don't think that I am difficult to please, I just can't relive my son's first birthday and I'm embarrassed to even put the pictures of his cake in a photo album! Pros: The cake was edible. Cons: It was poorly decorated. more

Condescending/Overpriced 6/7/2010

For some bizarre reason, Bethel people have gotten swept into Bethel Bakery mania. Go out and sample other cakes at wonderful local bakeries. You'll find them way more adaptable to your requests and the quality of the cakes are far superior. I had the occasion recently to compare two cakes: One from Bethel Bakery and the other from Shop' n Save. The freshness and moistness of the cake was no comparison to BB. Our cake was baked and frosted in the same day. Not so with BB (or at least it tasted like a dry, de-thawed cake with whipped crisco frosting.) Wake up folks! There are other shows in town with superior quality at half the price. Pros: Absolutely none Cons: frozen & thawed cakes more

Very rude service, bad pastries 5/12/2010

I was looking for a place to have my Wedding Cake made at, and of course, Bethel Bakery came very highly recommended. I went and sampled a few cookies, cupcakes, and even had a regular cake made, (was getting stuff for a going away party). The pastries were AWFUL! I have tasted better pastries from Giant Eagle or other bakeries for a much better price.\r \r At the same time, I tried to arrange to have an appointment to look at cakes and plan that portion of things. The people behind the counter couldn'tve been less helpful. After being completely ignored for ten minutes, when I was finally able to get someones' attention, the first person told me that I didn't ""look"" like someone who would be able to afford a wedding cake from them!\r \r The second person went and got the date book, but miraculously, all my available openings to make an appointment were booked! (Out of 5 days during the week where I am available all day, they had no openings on any of those days...) But someone came in right behind me and scheduled an appointment for the exact same time I wanted, and they had no scheduling issues.\r \r I wouldn't eat from Bethel Bakery if it was the LAST BAKERY ON EARTH! Pros: Well known across the city Cons: Poor Customer service, bad tasting pastries more

  • Since Bethel Bakery opened for business in 1955 in the south hills section of Pittsburgh, generations of patrons have made their way to the shop for the bakery’s signature pastries, cookies, coffeecakes and one-of-a-kind cakes. With a number of years of bakery experience, a stint in the Navy behind him and a small inheritance, Morris Walsh, with characteristic determination, made his dream of owning his own bakery a reality when he and a partner opened for business during the Eisenhower administration. While his business partner left the venture within a few months, Morris soon gained another associate, his future wife, Anna.
