The best kept secret in town 7/10/2008

I just moved to the area and I was looking for a club to workout. Someone gave me a flyer for an open house and came by. Little did I know this awesome club exists so close to my work. They have great classes, awesome parking, new equipment and friendly staff. I can workout during my lunch break, take a quick shower and head back to work in no time. Love it.... Pros: Clean, great atmosphere, friendly staff Cons: can't think of one more

Two Thumbs Up! 5/19/2008

This is a GREAT Health Club! When I enter, I get a warm welcome friendly feeling/atmosphere throughout the whole time! The entire gym is clean, but not only that, the Kid's Club is fantastic and clean! There are SO many toys, I know a lot of children that go there, and they become friends. They even have events too, like Parent's Night Outs, and even DATE NIGHTS! Really marvelous! The gym has a lot of things to do, spinning class, aerobics room, private trainings. The locker rooms are neat and clean and safe. On the whole, it's a great PLACE to be and if YOUR not there, your missing out! I give it a 10/10, TWO Thumbs UP! Thank you. Pros: Kid's Club! Cons: None! more

Great little club 3/19/2008

I'm new to the area as my new job is at the Water Garden. First off what a great location!!\r \r The club is small and when I am there it's not crowded. I come at lunch time and sometimes in the evening after work.\r \r I take classes, work with a trainer, I checked out the pilates studio( what a retreat!!!). Sometimes I come in and do some cardio and weights. On the whole I like the club. I feel safe there. The classes that I took were quite good. I saw on the schedule there is a belly dancing class, wish I didn't work so I could take that one. I have tried the Zumba on Monday nights that was awesome, the instructor is stellar!!!\r \r The trainer I worked out with was great, does he know his stuff. He has a keen eye and does not let me get away with anything. The Pilates studio is small but lovely. I took some privates and loved it!!\r \r The staff is friendly and upbeat! \r all in all a great place to work out. I checked out the competition before I joined but the value was there, the convienence was there, so I'm there.\r \r Pros: parking, location, cleanliness Cons: steam room is being refurbished more

great parking,customer service 3/19/2008

This gym has great parking, customer service and staff. They have great classes and equipment. I would recommend this gym to anyone. When I went in the first time they game me a free pass to try out the gym before I signed up. This way you know what you are getting before you pay. more

Hide Out 3/18/2008

This club is clean, well kept and quiet. It is a great place to workout with out all the noise and crazyness that usally accoures in the clubs in this area. The service is great and the staff is helpfull. It's a nice place to hide out. They even give you 3 free months when you join. more

Best gym on the westside. 3/18/2008

Best gym on the westside. Pleasant atomosphere. Staff extremely helpful. free personal training session.\r Most update equipment. Great locker rooms. free towels. Looks hard to get into the building but to the contrary easier than most gyms. elevator takes you right up. My kids have a great time at the kids club.\r So happy I found this jewel. They give you 3 months free upon joining.\r Been a member of many of the other gyms but this is by far the best. I'm a lifer!!! more

Meh..... 3/8/2008

Over the last year they've enrolled way too many people to the point that you are forced to come at off peak hours if you want your favorite machine. It's also FREEZING in there!! I come to sweat, not catch pneumonia. The hours could be expanded too..especially on the weekend! Closing before 10 pm on any day is just bad and I think they close at 8pm on Sat/Sun. Pros: Proximity if you work in the WaterGarden or live nearby. Cons: Hours of operaton, crowded, too cold inside and the locker room could not be more cramped. more

Change in staff prompts less personal service 1/26/2008

Was a member for over two years and it was a pretty anonymous place. The cycling classes were good but those also went downhill when key instructors left. Two months notice required to cancel and even then had to call numerous times to make sure they got the form that I had to fill out. No one ever followed up with a phone call as to why I might be leaving. Too bad. It's close to where I work. Pros: Easy parking and location Cons: Inpersonal more

great escape from the office 8/29/2007

I couldn't even see the gym from the outside! It is samll but the classes are great and they have everything you need. My office is in the water garden office complex, so I wanted a gym that was close. There was no excuse when it is in my building! The instructors are great and the schedule offers several different kinds of classes like toning, kickboxing, spinning and yoga. I feel no where near my office when I enter--it's my little get away! Pros: location, classes, free pedometer, nice locker room Cons: could have softer towels, but at least they offer towels! more

Great Parking, customer service, clean 8/10/2007

I have been a member of the Santa Monica Spectrum Club for 2 years now. When I first joined I had a hard time staying motivated and always finding excuses not to come. The I joined this challenge they have going on. Through this program I am now able to get 3 Private training sessions for FREE! I love my trainer who is amazing and really helping me to reach my goals. This is the best program and has helped me out so much. Pros: Parking,Service more

Impressive 7/28/2007

The club is very clean and the staff is very helpful. The sales person was great and let me work out with out any pressure. I origanally went in to use a 1 week pass; howevr, After trying out their spin class, I signed up that day. The steam room was down for the day and, the towel supply was low but, other than that, my exsperience was wonderful. I have referred two of my friends from another club and they have made the switch as well. If you are looking for a club, give spectrum @ santa monica a call!!\r Pros: Parking, Service more

Great Workout Environment 7/24/2007

I've been a member at several gyms through the years and have worked with lots of personal trainers. I have to say that the Spectrum Club in Santa Monica has the most highly educated trainers I've ever seen in a gym. All the trainers there are professional and knowledgeable, and most of them even have college degrees in exercise science! The trainer I'm working with there now gives me the best workouts I've ever had. I recommend this gym to anyone looking for a great trainer.\r \r Suzy H. Pros: Thumbs way up - awesome trainers! more

Best Birthday party anywhere 4/18/2007

I just recently had my daughters Bithday Party with her friends at Palisades Spectrum Kids Club. I was extremly happy on how the party turned out. The staff was fantastic, they had great energy and great attitudes. It just couldn't have gone better. I was very pleased and I would do it again. more

great get-a-away gym!!! 3/11/2007

nice, clean little gym! not too crowded, as it is in an office building, but open on weekends! in a nut shell: clean, plenty of free parking, good people--no freaky LA scene--no crazy blasting music...I even got a pedometer and a website to track my workouts !! Pros: nice people, no loud music, easy fat testing that is private Cons: small, but not too small... more

Best Experience in Santa Monica 3/10/2007

I recently moved to Santa Monica and was looking for a clean and fun place to workout. I joined the Spectrum club because I was very impressed with the extremely clean gym floor and locker rooms. I also loved the very freindly environment they create with amazing customer service. They also have this new program to help you work out, with computers set up and a designated area to do your weight and all your other stats. The general manager intorduced himself to me and was very friendly and personable. I love this gym and love going their to improve my health! Pros: Thumbs up more

Great service and you can work out with out someone trying to pick you up. 3/5/2007

Great club if you're over the ""pick up spots"" Club is clean and well maintained, good classes and great customer service. Recently I changed credit cards and forgot to let the club know. As a result my account went past due. When the club called me they were really nice about it - they didn't make me feel like a criminal and even waived all the return fees incurred when they tried to charge my monthly dues to my old credit card. Seemed pricy at first but when I compared it to the 2 other higher end clubs in the area, it turned out to be a steal - about $30/month less than Equinox and $60/month lower than Sports Club LA more

Great Classes 3/2/2007

My office is moving from the Water Garfen to Downtown LA and I will be leaving my wonderful Santa Monica Spectrum. I love that club!!! How can I leave?? . I've made some friends there because of the terrific classes and membership get togethers. The members are friendly and I have had the best times working out. I started with a trainer and those workouts have been great. Where ever my next gym is they will have a hard time cutting the mustard. Santa Monica Spectrum has set the bar pretty high. The club is clean, the classes are stellar, good variety of equipment. There is even something called a Power Plate, not sure what it does but I keep on hearing about it. \r \r Happy Trails Pros: great exercise classes Cons: towels could be softer/too many cell phones more

Comfortable Clientele 3/2/2007

A good mix of young business professionals and mature members. Spectrum is a business gym in the heart of Santa Monica's hip working district. Good amount of parking and a dedicated staff make workouts before work and during lunch breaks convenient and enjoyable. The Healthmiles program is a wonderful incentive to earn bonuses and keep active outside the gym. Always plenty of room on weekends. Pros: Staff and location Cons: During peak hours, hard to get a treadmill with a TV monitor but plenty w/out TV's more

Best Value in Santa Monica 3/2/2007

Compared different clubs in the area. Spectrum Club has what I need in regards to good equipment, programming of classes and great parking. Their new Health Miles program is motivating and helps me stay active even when I am not in the club. I am looking forward to stay there many months and get as fit as I can. Pros: Good Customer service, Parking, Internet Access available and good location Cons: Perhaps needs a couple more Stepmills more

Too much marketing hype; too little maintenance. Poor value for your money 2/25/2007

Spectum Santa Monica seems to have gone down in quality since a recent change in managers. Too much floor space is dedicated to marketing an additional product that costs yet another $10 per month. Too little time is spent on maintaining equipment. This club is expensive, but not worth the price. more
