Too Expensive! 4/16/2010

I ordered take-out from their online menu. I expected to pay $9.95 for their falafel plate. When I arrived in person, they said their online menu was incorrect and that the real cost was $13.95. $14 for a few dabs of hummos, bhabha ganoush, and two falafel balls? That is outrageous. I would have never ordered lunch if i knew it was that expensive. When I mentioned this to the woman working at the restaurant, she didn't seem to care. I told her that it was not right to advertise one price online and then charge a higher price in person. They need to correct their online menu and honor the prices they advertise online. And they need to reduce their prices. You can get the same food on Mass. Ave. or in Harvard Square for half the price. \r I won't be going back. Cons: Overpriced food. Incorrect pricing listed on online menu! more

Pleasant Surprise 2/2/2010

Apparently the owner has been gone for some time due to several deaths in the family over the past year and just returned a couple of weeks ago. From my conversation with the owner it sounded as though during his absence the manager made several changes that were not to his liking so he has made efforts to get it back on track including hiring a new chef. The owner was very pleasant and made us feel as though we were at his home, but without being in our face. Because we couldn't decide on what to get as we wanted to try everything, he suggested the combos but when I said that they didn't include a couple of the things I wanted he said he would take care of it which also meant on the house. The food was delicious! There was a guitarist that was quite good and very friendly and I'm pleased that he is offered a weekly gig there. It was not busy on this Tuesday night which was nice for us, but as with any local business I hope they will get the support necessary to stay in business as they have only been open for a year. The only down side was the atmosphere was a little weak especially the tables and chairs specifically. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Tables & Chairs more

Poor Customer Service - Agressive Host - Few Great Artists 3/1/2009

Food: Good Lebanese tasty food. \r Presentation: No professional Restaurant’s menus or napkins. No beverages menu handed, only one small page for the food.\r Customer Service: below average. Their host (who handed me his business card in a pompous way -it says that he is The Founder & Director of Operations of Layaleena=their entertainment) is an alpha male type, not warm and welcoming; but aggressive, tense and not forward about explaining the cover charges to the first time customers.\r Charges: $15 cover charge + plus whatever you consume at the bar or + minimum of $20 if you choose to sit at a table + 18% gratuity that they add for you to your bill.\r Space: average, nothing special, an open square/rectangular room with a bar, below average furniture and below average decoration with a back door in the middle of it of it, opening on a non-heated hall where their restrooms are located. Plan to have a sweater or your coat on as it is freezing when they leave the back door wide open\r Entertainment: Their website says that the entertainment starts at 9 pm, I arrived there at 9:15 pm, (I asked the host and he said that it would start in 5 min) their entertainment never started until around 11pm. They had a band with 3 musicians/back singers: two of them were lousy and the one awesome musician, who played Darbouka! He was excellent; he played terrific rhythms and was spectacular when he did a solo with the belly dancer. They had young lady who was the main singer: she has a beautiful powerful voice but her outfit was not. They also had a belly dancer: she is a beautiful young woman and a talented dancer.\r Ambience: Poor and stiff, for some reason the energy of the whole place was off. Not one customer got up and danced.\r I personally don’t mind a pricy place that is classy and has character but this one is not.\r Would I go back? NO. It was not fun!\r On a funny note: The place was not busy but for whatever reason, there were few men working there (doing I don’t know what), including the tense host, all spiffed up in business suits and running around the whole evening! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Poor Customer Service - Agressive Host 3/1/2009

- Good tasty Lebanese cuisine, priced correctly\r - No beverage menu available, no professional menu for food, no professional menu for wine, no proper restaurant napkins.\r - Host who is also the founder and director of operations for Layaleena (their live entertainment) is an aggressive alpha male type. Not warm and welcoming but more inquisive and kind of rude and confusing about their pricing policies\r - Pricing: they require a $15 cover charge \r + whatever you consume at the bar \r + a minimum of $20 if you sit at a table\r + 18% gratuity that they include in your bill for you \r - Waitress: average service\r - Place is average, nothing special, a bar and an open space (square/rectangulaire shape) with average furniture. Their back door opens in the middle to a non heated hall where they have their restrooms. If they have it open you will need to have your coat on because it gets very cold in there.\r - Entertainment: it says on their website that it starts at 9pm (if you ask him the host will tell you it will start in 5 minutes!). I was there on a Saturday, I arrived at 9:15 pm and their entertainment never started until around 11 pm.\r *They had a band of 3 musicians/back singers: two were both lousy singers and musicians and the one musician that played Derboukka was terrific.\r * They had a young lady that sings with the band: her voice is beautiful her outfit was not.\r * They also had a belly dancer: She was very good\r - Overall the ambiance was kind of stiff not really fun and relaxed. Not one customer got up and danced. Would I go back? No, it was not fun.\r One funny note: I don?t know what it was but there a bunch of men working there, all spiffed up in business suits and running around the whole evening! more
