The maintenance staff of Barr Real Estate is by far one of the best I have come across. They are always prompt and willing to help with any situation you might have. Last year I was locked out of my apartment because I twisted my key the wrong way and it jammed. Emergency maintenance was prompt and very helpful in replacing my lock. I was very satisfied with the response time because it was cold out and I didn't have to wait long at all to get into my unit. Another time my AC unit was broken because the filter had frozen to the coils because I had it on all the time. Maintenance was quick to respond and installed a new unit that worked great. In the winter there were electricians working in my apartment and I was notified a week in advance. When they were in my crawl space they found that my water heater was leaking. Although the leak was very minor, BARR was quick to replace the water heater to avoid any water damage to the wood frame and base board. When the Plumbing contractor who replaced the water heater forgot the light the pilot lights a maintenance worker arrived quickly and showed me where all the pilot lights were and lit them. During winter break my stupid neighbor downstairs turned his heat all the way off and the pipes froze. Once again Barr maintenance was quick to respond and came with heat guns to thaw out my pipes and fixed the damage that had happen to my neighbors apartment because he turned his heat off. As a side note Barr did send out a notice that said to leave the heat on at a low setting to avoid pipes freezing. Guess my neighbor didn't learn how to read prior to coming to a university. Also during the frozen pipe incident they came with insulation strips and weather sealed my door because all doors were replaced over break and the contractor installed the door with a gap that was too large. The insulation was temporary and the door was later fixed. more

Heater fixed two days ago, stall fixed in the morning, carpet cleaned and new bed arrived in the afternoon. Good job BARR maintenance! Very satisfied. more

We live at 105 e. Daniel and our maintenance man Travis has helped us out SOO much and made our living situation so much better. Any time anything has gone wrong or something is broken we know we can just email him or count on him to come and take care of it. THANK YOU TRAVIS!! more

I live at 609 W. Main St. in Urbana. It is a property owned by Barr, and I really enjoy living there. Any apartment living is not without its flaws- the first year there my neighbors were really noisy at awful hours, but since they left it has been amazing! The apartment complex, as it turned out, undertook the task of tackling a massive complex renovation which even involved tearing down the front walls of my apartment. I DO wish I knew that when I moved in. However, they worked very hard to make sure these upgrades were done at times that were the least detrimental to my schedule (such as doing things while I was away for Christmas break). Furthermore, they acknowledged that this was less than ideal and made sure I wasn't paying full rent for a noisy home. Also, the place really did get an upgrade. It looks gorgeous now! They even landscaped the apartment, and I am proud to say I live in the complex- it looks so vogue. The maintenance staff has been EXCELLENT throughout my stay, fixing things as minor as a missing tile on my bathroom wall, giving me nice new wooden floors (so much easier to clean, too!), and even coming over after hours to give me a temporary heater when I got home at 6pm to discover my heat was faulty, and made sure that a repair man would come ASAP, which turned out to be right that night- wonderful! The staff at Barr Real Estate Office in Champaign are very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Any time I have a request or a suggestion, it is heard. These people are really wonderful and the company has made the best out of a not-so-convenient situation with our apartment renovation. I feel that my voice has been heard in my requests- once the lights on the outside of the building and the entryway were out. I told Mr. Barr, and he got the construction workers to fix it that day. I haven't even mentioned the apartment yet, but here it is: I have a beautiful 2 bedroom townhouse, fully furnished, with plenty of space. It has a nice roomy family room, an east-facing kitchen that really is great to enjoy breakfast and wake up in during the early hours before school, and two bedrooms with vaulted ceilings. The bathroom is roomy and with enough space for a bathroom-hog like me to still be quite comfortable. And that second bedroom is perfect as a guest bedroom and study room. Despite the rocky beginning, I absolutely love this place, and will be living here all four years of my Veterinary career. Thinking of living in a Barr apartment' I would absolutely say yes. more

I have rented a townhome from Barr Real Estate for 3 years now. Their maintenance staff is quick to get to any problem that you have with your property. Most of the time, their response occurs within 1-2 business days! They will actually leave you a note, telling you that they've been there and what they have done to fix your problem. In addition, the office staff has always been helpful and friendly when I've had to deal with them. Overall, I would highly recommend renting from Barr REal Estate! more

Maintenance was definitely the best part. They came to ""fix a drawer"" one day in our bathroom and ended up ripping out our cabinets, sink, and mirrors. They replaced it all and the bathroom looks much better now, even much cleaner. The guys always came by and fixed things very quickly after we requested it, and I have experienced the same service at my new apartment in Southwest Champaign. They have also always been very polite. more

I've lived here for about 4 years. Rent has only gone up once. My 1 bedroom is pretty spacious, with a balcony. Not much of a view, though. Appliances are a little dated, but functional. Seems like a safe place, never had any issues. Neighbors are friendly. more

Just moved into my apartment. Despite the other reviews on here, my apartment was exceptionally cleaned. Everything so far has worked as it should. Even after moving in, a maintenance worker asked me if everything was okay with the new apartment and if there was something he could do. I have lived with Barr in the past and I also had a pleasant experience. After living in Campaign-Urbana on/near campus with many companies. Barr's service is much better than most. more

So this morning two maintenance guys from Barr came to my apartment, and they put a new fridge and a set of new blinds to our apartment. The maintenance guys are very experienced, and they are very hard workers. I am also very pleased with the fact that they took off their shoes as they entered the apartment, I just want to say thank you to Barr Real Estate Inc. again. I have lived in Fairlawn Village (one-bedroom duplex) for a year and a half. The maintenaince problems I?ve had here have been promptly fixed by courteous staff. more

There was a time when my life was in turmoil and I was unexpectedly in a need of a place to live. I was looking at different apartments and duplexes (for an amount I could afford) and I was left feeling hopeless. I wasn't in to the college life, I was looking for someplace nice and quiet (after working an eight hour day). Then I looked at the apartments Barr owned. I couldn't believe how nice and well kept the places were. Then I was shown my dream place, not only is it tucked away in an off-street location, but I feel like its my own little village. I even have my own private balcony. There have been only a few instances when I have had to call maintainence, but when I have, it was handled in a timely matter. more

I haven't had a bad experience with Barr. I've lived at 2 of their locations - 807 W. Illinois & 205 E. Healey. They've always responded to my maintence requests within 48-72 hours. Their handyman Rick has been particularly helpful. Additionally, their Barr-to-Barr move policy is really helpful. If you are moving from a Barr apartment to a different Barr apartment they allow you to stay in your old apartment until your new one is ready, rather than making you homeless for a week or two like the other landlords down here. Their office staff isn't the most friendly, but they have always done whatever I needed them to do. Overall, I think renting an apartment in a college town can and will result in less than ideal situations sometimes, but I've been pleased with Barr real estate. more

I have lived here for a while now and I have no complaints. The management is always nice when ever I have seen them around and they are also very quick to fix anything that has needed fixing. I would recommend this place to anyone. more

I've lived with Barr in the same apartment at 105 E Green for 2 years now. They have been very quick to fix any problems that I call about. They have always been friendly any time that I've interacted with them. Their maintenance people are the greatest. All really nice guys willing to help all they can. One time I even called at midnight with a backed up shower, and they sent someone right over. Seriously awesome! I will miss Barr and hope that wherever I end up next, I will find an equally impressive landlord. more

Bascially, a great place to live with your own bathroom and a great location. Champaign is the city to live in. Excellent price. more

I have rented from Barr for many years (14), and I recently moved from Apt. 9 to Apt. 2 in my building. Barr is always quick to come when I call concerning maintenance issues, am locked out of my apartment, etc. The office staff is always cheerful and ready to help, and I unhesitatingly recommend Barr to many of my students. more

The Georgian is in the heart of campus near the corner of sixth and armory. The rent is cheap for anywhere on campus but especially for this location. The premises were kept nice and it is a fun old building to live in. Whenever there were maintanence issues they were fixed quickly and with no hassle. The office people were courteous and helpful. All around very positive experience with Barr Real Estate and with the apartment! more

I currently am renting a parking space from Barr Realty and had my car towed despite the fact that I clearly had the right to park there. The towing company was at fault and the staff at Barr Realty helped me immensely to prove the towing company's mistake and get the towing charge waved. The staff could have easily told me to deal with it myself and that it wasn't their problem to deal with, but they made numerous phone calls to the towing company and knowing they were on my side gave me great peace of mind to know the problem would be resolved. I HIGHLY recommend renting from this company! more
