Barnes & Noble

They pay little attention to author events. There is little to no PR for ""visiting"" authors. They promise to put up signs in the store for authors who come and read but then they get really sloppy OR the PR books events manager quits or gets FIRED and they forget to do it. Disaster! Disorganized! Then they apologize, of course, AFTER the damage has been done! They are disorganized to the MAX. This store is a very bad reading venue for authors on reading tours. Borders is SO much better. Barnes and Noble Philadelphia also hires yahoo/puritanical book events managers who quibble with authors about book content. This store is a disaster! I can't say this enough. I used to love Barnes and Noble, so I find writing this a bit painful. They may have good coffee and cheesecake and kiddie books but if you are a author on tour, give this LAME store a PASS! more

I usually start looking for new books at Joseph Fox Bookshop on Sansom Street, right around the corner from B&N. Fox is smaller, but the staff is friendlier and very helpful. For that reason, I prefer independent book sellers like Fox to mega-stores like B&N. But when I'm in a hurry and Fox doesn't have the book I'm looking for, I resort to B&N. I just phoned them about a book, they quickly located it, and said they'd hold it for me - but only for 3 days! At Fox, I never would have received that kind of treatment. They've held books for me for weeks. I always feel I get a more respectful attitude from the staff there. more

THEY HAVE EVERYTHING HERE AND IF THEY DON'T THEY WILL DO WHATEVER THEY CAN TO FIND IT FOR YOU. PLUS THERE IS A STARBUCKS SERVING CHEESECAKE FACTORY! WHAT COULD BE BETTER! more

When my boyfriend,now husband, went to drexel and whenever he couldn't get a book he needed through the school bookstore we would head to B & N. I could sit and browse while he got what he needed. And they would order stuff for you too! more

Was in this store a few days ago and ,wow, what a selection and what a nice store. So bright and so clean. They really take care of their store. Great location but parking is limited. PROS: Selection, Clean CONS: Parking more

I like this bookstore a lot. It is in the heart of the city and is very accessible. You could spend a whole day just reading and sipping a vanilla bean frappachino.Ummmmm... PROS: Great location CONS: none more

I just got a chance to peruse this store yesterday. It's classic Barnes and Noble, three levels of books with a cafe on the second floor and an events area upstairs for readings. It's also located right in Center City across from Rittenhouse Square, one of the more appealing areas of the city. more

i went in to barnes and noble today and had a blast reading books!! they were friendly and such a peaceful setting if you want to just getaway! i recommend this every week more
