Great kennel and great prices. Always happy doggies (Duke, Hannah and Fritz) when I pick them up. I've had my dogs at other kennels and by far this is the best....they care for the animals and you can tell! I read a few of the reviews and I am confused.... They have been nothing but LOVING with our dogs and our dogs have always come home healthy and happy! more

I worked for the Southlakes Bark and Purr Retreat. Mrs. Whelan will stay on top of everyone there to make sure that everything is done at a proper time. She makes sure the dogs are walked and well cared for. She and I did not always see eye to eye on some things but she does take care of the animals. Mr. and Mrs Whelan love animals and they do what the say they will do for you. She fires people and they go to work for other kennels in the area such as elite Suites. They are picking up people she fires for not doing there jobs. more

These folks are very friendly. They do an excellent job. They offer boarding, grooming, training, daycare, overnights, temp. controled rooms, and they love and pamper your pet more

I have been using the Bark and Purr Retreat for several years now and find them to be very professional, polite and courteous. I like the idea that they get my dogs out to the yards so many times a day. Their staff takes very good care of my dogs. more

Low Rent 5/18/2010

Rude and unprofessional. If you need low rent this is your kennel. If you love your dog do not use this place. more

Horrible 5/9/2010

I used to work there for about 4 months and I quit. on their brochere its says oh we do this and this with your animals while they are here. blah blah blah. Ya they feed them and take them out all the time. But the cats are kept in this upstairs area where its warm and not confortable. The yare kept in a cage unless we are cleaning it then we put them right back in. Then the dogs they dont get walked only let out to go potty and we are not allowed to play with them or touch them unless we r puttting a leash on them. Its sad and i wouldnt never keep my pet there and there used to be to full grown poodles that lived there that the only time they got out of thre tiny cage was to go potty and thats how it is with all the dogs your pet is kept in a cage not allowed to be played with and can only go out side to potty. I went so far and even called anmial control on them for how they treat the dogs. pisses me off more

Bark & Purr Retreat is ?????? 7/23/2009

if you think your pet is treated good at Southlake's Bark and Purr Pet Reteat the you need to go around the corner to Elite Suites. They have a much more pet friendly place and yes they cost more but you get what you pay for. more

I worked for tim and sharron for about a yr i guess this is not a bad place to work or board your animals. They take great pride in every dog and cat brought into that. I think the ppl whom are complaining may have had there own issues prior to coming there for nothing will be good enough. And as far as the staff goes you have to love those animals to work there and if you dont you dont need to be there. Had i not had personal issues to tend with i would still be there now. Thanks for the care 10/2/2008

We have always used the Bark and Purr for our Lab Harley. Harley is very special to our family and a good caring kennel is important. The Bark and Purr treats Harley like a King. Their true caring and love for the dogs is noticed immediately. Most important our dog noticed and displayed them true affection when he left. Its a great place and a second home for Harley when we need it. I would not use another. We feel safe, secure and happy knowing Harley is being treated well and cared for by true dog lovers. more

Peace of mind during the storm 10/2/2008

During the hurricane Ike, my husband and I had to evacuate our home and find shelter away from the coming storm. When we got to the Dallas area, we looked all over for a kennel who would help us, and not charge an arm and a leg. When we called, they said it was $25.00 a day and there were no extra charges to walk our dog (Sophie) or for them to administer her thyroid medication. They also gave a discount for all the hurricane victims. Yvonne, the manager, took us on a tour of their facility and explained their daily routines to us. It's a really nice facility. We were there about 5 days, before we could actually go home. I was very pleased with the care they took of Sophie, especially during this time of crises. I would recommend their services to anyone. It's really comforting to know there are still down-to-earth people who care about helping each other during times like this. :) more

My loving chows 9/26/2008

I have recently moved into the area and have used several kennels in the area for my two spoiled chows. The thing I liked about the Bark and Purr Retreat is that they got my dogs out into the yards at least 4 times a day. My dogs tend to be dog aggresive and unlike some other kennels I've used they did not mix my dogs with other dogs. Their handler stayed right in the yard when my dogs were out and that made me feel real secure for the safety of my dogs. Also my dogs are on a special diet and they had no problems with that and they did not charge extra for that like the other kennels did.\r I will definetely be bringing my dogs back here to stay.\r \r Sandra M. more

World Class Spoiled Hunting Dogs 9/24/2008

To all who want a great place to board their pets:I have 2 of the most spoiled hunting dogs you'll ever meet, and they are the best hunting dogs a man could ever ask for. So obviously I don't just leave my dogs anywhere or with just anyone. I board my dogs with the crew at the Bark and Purr Retreat in Southlake. I have kennels that are closer to where I live (east of Dallas), but I drive there because I trust them with my dogs. Both of my dogs have always come back to me happy, healthy and ready to go. I've never had a bad experience, and don't think I ever will. I've come to know the owners over the last two years or so, and from all the stories I hear-they don't mess around. For me, I'd rather have someone with a no nonsense attitude watching over my dogs, than someone who doesn't monitor them or what's going on. So, guess I'm just trying to let you know that I have had great results and experiences with them. I recommend them very highly. I have never been disappointed and don't thi more

I Love my dog, and I kennel my dog here with no problems- ever 9/24/2008

I have a dog named Sterling, and he is a beautiful german shepard, whom I love with all my heart. I have kenneled Sterling at the Bark and Purr for about 4 years now. I had to leave town for a furneral one time and Sterling was on medication for spot on his back where he kept chewing at it. I gave the owner, Sharron, all the information on how to give the medication to Sterling, and she said she would be sure he was taken care of for me. She reassured me that Sterling would be ok and not to worry. I was so happy, when I came to pick up Sterling that I started to cry. That spot on his back was healed up. I was so touched that she took such great care of my Sterling. I love Sharron for the huge heart she has for animals, and truly wanting to care for them. I just wanted to say thank you so much. You have a customer in me for as long as I have a pet. Thank you again for all you do.\r Maura Bennette and Sterling more

THE BARK AND PURR IS AWESOME! I'LL NEVER TAKE MY DOG ANYWHERE ELSE 9/24/2008

I have gone to the Bark and Purr for many years, and I will never take my dog anywhere else. My dog has been left in their care so many times I can't even count them all. They have gone out of their way to take care of my dog, because I travel alot. Usually I am out of town 2 weeks out of a month. When my dog sees the Bark and Purr she gets really excited to go there, and that means a lot to me. I know she enjoys going there with all the other dogs and she responds very well to all the handlers too. When I come to pick her up she's really excited to see me, and she's healthy and happy and looks great. Some of the remarks I have read in here I know for a fact are so false that I have talked to the owners about hiring an attorney for slander. The kennels I have been to before don't even compare to the treatment my dog gets at the Bark and Purr. Like I said in the beginning, I'll never go anywhere else, and I would highly recommend the Bark and Purr to anyone who wants their pet loved on more

I recently started working at the bark and purr pet retreat. This is the perfect job for me because I have three "babies" of my own. We take excellent care of all the pets that come through our door. I look at each and every one of them like they were my own. If they were my pet how would i want them to be treated and that's how I treat them. This is the kind of employees that the owners want and keep. If someone "slips through the cracks" that is not a pet lover, they won't be there long. Every morning each and every one of the cages are cleaned and scrubbed while the dogs are outside. This is the cleanest place that I have ever seen that has twenty or more dogs everyday!! We walk the dogs 5 times a day, feed the dogs per the "mom and dads" request and medications (if any) are given as directed. I love to go in after my days off because I get to see what dog is there and what one is not. I have gotten upset once or twice when I didn't get to tell a dog goodbye, but there is always a n more

Nightmare Experience! 8/5/2008

We left our 8 year old Weimaraner with this kennel for 7 days with explicit instructions by phone with Tim and in person with Jackie when dropping her off she's an 'inside" dog only. Immediately after picking her up we had to rush her to the Emergency Vet Clinic as she was projectile vomiting, lethargic and too weak to stand. She had lost 8 lbs, severely dehyrated requiring 1 full litre of fluids intravenously and anti-nausea shot. Her paw pads were swollen from standing on hot cement and her nose was scabbed from bleeding. We have contacted the owners by phone, mailing and faxing the Vets bill. I received a call from Sharron saying she didn't know what happened and would reimburse us. A month has passed and we still have not received reimbursement for the near fatal condition we received our much loved and well cared for family pet. I will be contacting the BBB, Humane Society and all Vet offices in our area with warnings of this kennel. NOT going to be anonymous, \r Karen B. more

Isn't it strange? 7/11/2008

For the most part Bark and Purr Retreat is exactly what it should be. A reasonably safe environment where the animals are cared for by employees who enjoy the company of animals and don't just see the boarders as money. During my short period of employment my only issues were being blamed for a dog escaping into the scrap yard behind the kennels after it managed to slip underneath a bad spot in the chain link fencing. The dog was caught by the owner Tim, and myself, and returned but its feet were torn up from running across the sheet metal in the scrap yard and it had bitten holes in its tongue. Then I was told there were 3 different stories as to how the dog escaped, so who knows what the owners of the dog were told. Considering I'm the only one who saw it, it's amazing that there was more than 1 eye witness account, but that's what the owner says.\r In all fairness the dog was scared to death and reacted on its instincts and had it not gone UNDER the fence, it probably would have gone more

Very Happy Customer... 6/27/2008

I have to say that I'm a bit outraged by the negativity that I have read here. My first comment has to be to those who have posted anonymously - Is it because your a coward or a lier ? I was referred to Bark and Purr by the breeder I purchased my dog from. Having never left my dog (of less than one year at the time) anywhere before, I was a bit ambivalent to do so. I was bringing my standard poodle there to be groomed and had nothing but great results. Tim the owner gave me a tour and eased my fears of leaving my dog for the first time. I did check other places such as my vet, the bigger commercial places, etc. I chose Bark and Purr Retreat based on the care my dog would receive over the others. Cost fell somewhere in between. Although my dog can't talk, I'm pretty sure that he enjoys going to the bathroom outside, in the grass rather than on scented concrete as some of the other facilities that I checked. He also does not require a TV in his "room" to be happy as some would have you b more

THIS WAS THE BEST JOB I EVER HAD AND MISS MY FAVORITE BOSS' 3/14/2008

I use to work at this facility a few years ago. The owners are great!!! And treated me like there own daughter. I even had the pleasure to watch a litter of pups come into this world. This facility takes very good care of each pet that is brought in. This is the only facility that i knew at the time that gave there guest ample room to play in, many times of playtime outside in a fenced clean area, all kennels were clean many times a day correctly!!! If there is any negative comments regarding this kennel, then your the one with th problem. I miss you both!!! And if some feel there is a huge overturn of employees, the reason being is sharon the owner was a very strict person and wanted things done her way which was the right way, and if she noticed you bypassed her rules and regulations then she had no choice but to let that employee go. If Roy Williams with the Dallas Cowboys trusted them with Maximus his dog then i assume many more clients have and do. Love ya guys, miss you so more
