First of all to introduce myself my name is Ashlee Bridges...im the current assistant manager of Southlakes Bark and Purr Pet Retreat. I started working here just after thanksgiving of 2013. Our employees work very hard to ensure the safety and happiness and the animals that are boarded here. We do get to play with the anmials...we have a great team of animal lovers here. All of these allegations on here are just crazy and completely wrong and I find it very offensive that we take some much pride in our work and the animals that come here for people im assuming "pissed off former employees" to come and bash a great business. I treat every dog as my own. And Mr. And Mrs. Whelan are the most amazing people..yes she can be strict but its a business...she has certain ways she wants it ran...this is to ensure the safety and happiness of the animals..so there are reasons behind it. This place is a LOSER! I have to wonder if the positive reviews were written by the owner! I know for a fact that they pay to have negative reviews removed. The owner is a trashy hoarder. Not only does she hoard things, but she hoards ANIMALS!! She has 6+ poodles that she breeds to death and these dogs live in cages their whole lives!! The facility is so old and broken down, rusty, etc. it is not safe for your pets and it is filthy, nasty, gross! The kennel area has no working drains so all cleaning is done with nasty mops (instead of hosing down and sanitizing and squeegee as it should be done) the cages are rusted, some are broken and sharp. Employee turnover is so high they never have any properly trained staff. Management is a nightmare!! more

I find it very funny how everyone blames the bad reviews on disgruntle employees and yet they never check out the conditions for themselves. I posted a pic of the breeding poodles...the cramp cat conditions...a dog shivering on the cold concrete in the middle of winter.. and the tore up floor with rebar that they try to hide during tours with sheet thin blankets that do nothing for the cold floor. Ask to walk all the way through the kennel. ALL THE WAY!! Trust me I was going to bring my dog here and I checked it out. I wouldn t leave a flea here!! This company has been in business a long time but not with the same owners. The new owners are hoarders and don t even take care of their own animals. The owner has 6+ poodles and two cats. 6 of the poodles stay in the kennel at any given time and the two cats only have contact with whoever is cleaning the cages and feeding. They stay in the kennels their whole life. People always comment how many poodles are their and they say yea they are p more

Ignore Disgruntled Employee Reviews 2/15/2013

You can tell the actual customers vs. the disgruntled employees. I have taken my 2 dogs here for years and stumbled upon these reviews and I am disgusted that these employees try to give this place a bad name. I find Bark and Purr to be extremely helpful and kind to my dogs and trust them every time I go out of town. more

Can I get a RESPONSE instead of a DELETE?? 9/30/2012

I find the fact that any comments regarding actual issues that don't just sound like a crazy ex-employee are deleted immediately very sad. One, for the dogs, and two, for the people. They are being completely misled. How about you respond to this one with some answers instead of avoiding the issues, ma'am?\r \r I worked for this kennel a while ago. I can only hope that things have gotten better than they were then, but based on the things that the current employees (only two of which are actually still employed there - shows you how high of a turnover rate this place has) said, nothing was going to change any time soon unfortunately. \r \r When I was first hired I noticed the rusted cages, broken runs, and patched up fences. I was constantly told the place was under renovation, but never saw anything done. I wrote everything off, thinking "maybe this is just how kennels are" and thought I was just being paranoid. Honest Facts 8/5/2012

They put the dogs in rusted kennels and the dogs are not played with at all. They just make enough time to take the dogs out to poop and that s it. Fed once at 8am and again at 2:30pm. The cats only get to see anyone once a day and all the do is clean and feed once! At 1:00...no play time. Honestly none of the employees would EVER take their pets here, they ve told me. Take this from a former employee, this isn't me lashing out in anger, just me looking out for those poor animals. Also, the owner has 2 birds she is selling and 6 poodles who she is breeding on the grounds to be sold. Please listen to me when I say, keep your pets out of this facility. more

Once again, we boarded our dogs at Bark and Purr when we went to visit family on the East Coast. The folks at Bark and Purr are terrific! They were accomodating with a last minute schedule. Thanks. more
