I am writing this review to improve the chances that this will not happen to another family who trusts a veterinarian. Over time I thought the sting of this experience would lessen. My only regret is that I did not do more to make an impact for future pet owners.\r I enrolled in the wellness program at Banfield in Dothan, AL when I got my puppy. The staff was very nice and Dr Sonmor very kind to my adorable puppy. She received routine care with vaccinations. Everything went well for about a year. I received a notice that it was time for her annual check-up so I took her in. Her blood work was perfect and she was deemed in perfect health by Dr. Sonmor. A few days later, I received a notice she needed her vaccinations. It was 10 days after the check-up. She received 3 scheduled vaccines that day. 3 days later, she appeared to be very ill....wasn't eating, vomiting. She became listless and her tongue and ears were almost colorless. \r I took her in to see a befuddled Dr. Sonmor more

Good Vet---Horrible Front Desk Personnel 8/6/2009

The vet and vet staff are good. However, the front desk personnel are horrible. Very rude, condescending and often keep you waiting without explanation. Hard to believe that Dr. Sonmor doesn't require them to provide better customer service. Banfield has a poor reputation in Dothan due to the front desk staff. It would also help if Dr. Sonmor was more readily available to talk with. You often end up talking with the front desk personnel (who relay messages) and end up getting second-hand (filtered) information. Just a lot of room for improvement. After using Banfield for the past year, I am fed up. There are better options for veternary services in Dothan. more

If you only knew... 1/10/2009

I feel incredibly for the people who go to Joni Sonmor for veterinary care and actually THINK they are receiving above par care! Yes I won't lie....I am a former employee. If clients only knew WHAT kind of unethical and non-sterile surgery techniques she uses on animals. Not just the poor SaveAPet animals, but the Wellness Plan clients as well. Between reused scalpel blades, reused suture remants, and even going as far as GLUING the entire intradermal tissues together without the use of suture for a spay or neuter. Or, how about tying the spermatic cord that contains the vas deferens and other blood vessels on themselves!! This way she doesn't have to use suture!! That is like taking a garden hose that has the water on and trying to tie it in a knot! So what happens then?? This can lead to post op hemorrhaging. Out of the many animals coming back I remember one in particular that the owners thought he had another testicle all of a sudden! Sonmor played it off and quickly rec more

Wonderful 8/24/2007

Through all the years I have had pets and I have used all the vets around Dothan I have never been so reassured than with Doctor Sonmore. When interviewing for a new doctor for my German Shepard, I did this when I was fostering for Save-A-Pet, she took the time to talk with me in great detail about her services and even though the puppies I had taken there were in foster care she was concerned for them beyond any vet I had ever seen. I was so impressed with her , not only because she does work with non-profit agencies and animals who would not have a chance otherwise, she truly cares about her patients. I believe we finally have our own solution to a caring physician for our 4 legged friends and family. Thanks so much for caring! more

Definitely one of f the best in Dothan 7/23/2007

I have to say that I didn't know what the general opinion was of Banfield before I went there or I wouldn't have gone. I'm glad I didn't hear it because I am completely satisfied with the service Banfield provides for my pets. I have two cats and one dog and they are all in perfect condition and I can afford it thanks to their wellness plans. \r The veterinarian and the assistants are all very friendly and they know all my pets by name. They do not look at me funny when I come in imagining symptoms, but they give my pets a thorough checkup and send me home with a sound mind. \r I have to assert again that I recommend Banfield Animal Hospital. They're friendly, they give advice freely, and they get the job done right. Also, their wellness plans are awesome if you have a new pet who needs all of its vaccinations, and needs to be neutered/spayed. more

Caring Vet 3/18/2006

When our 7 year old Boxer started having trouble breathing, we took him to Banfield inside PetSmart. The vet there was wonderfully caring, even though this was the beginning of the end for our beloved dog. She prescribed meds to make what time he had left as comfortable as possible, and even gave us some meds right away to tide us over until the pharmacy opened the following morning. I would highly recommend this vet for caring service. PROS: Caring Service CONS: A little expensive more
