Great vet! 1/9/2012

Dr. Gardner and her staff are very caring, thorough and experienced. They have seen us through end of life care for our older mixed breed dog and through the puppy stage with our standard poodle. When we had to put our older dog to sleep, Dr. Gardner came in on her day off because she had been the main veterinarian caring for him. This meant so much to us. When our older dog first got sick, she discussed all of our options and the costs associated with each. I never felt pressured to do expensive tests/procedures but knew what options were available. As for the wellness plan- it's the best deal going, especially if you have a puppy. Dr. Gardner was great about educating me on the specifics of my dog's breed. There are certain ways that Poodles need to eat and be trained. We got off to a really good start because of her advice. I love that everyone in the office knows our names and greets us kindly when we arrive. The staff is also great at calling us to check on our dog after any procedure, vaccine or surgery. They also call to remind us that ourdog is due for a vaccine or routine check up. I rest easy knowing my dog is in good hands at Banfield Arvada. more

BEWARE 10/31/2011

If you love your pet do not take them to this clinic. We signed up for the insurance plan early on. Needing emergency surgery for ingesting an object, we took the two year dog to the Banfield Hospital in Arvada. BIG MISTAKE. This facility is not set up for sick dogs. They do not have the ability to keep animals overnight. After a very long surgery and needing to be kept warm due to low body temp. they sent the dog home. The next day his incision was open and oozing. Brought the dog back to them and the put another stitch in, with a good size hole left ""to drain"" the wound. Two days later the wound opened even bigger, still oozing, we decided to take the dog to a real vet. We find out the liver was dying because they did not stitch him up properly. He also had a terrible infection inside. The lessons learned: the insurance is worth nothing - don't buy it. The surgery was still very expensive and we paid for it twice causes they messed it up the first time. This is not a quality facility. Put your trust and money in a real vet. hospital. more

Never ever take your dog here! 11/14/2010

Okay who gives a 20 lb dog a leptosporiousis shot meant for a larger animal? These guys do! These S.O.B.'s gave my dog a simple vaccination. I thought like an idiot I would use a more convenient vet clinic as I was shopping at petsmart that day. They used a vet pack that had a lepto shot in it and gave it to him then I took my dog home, he laid down, and about 4 hrs later (after 7pm) he woke up screeching! He could not move and made the most horrid sound! Every bone on his body hurt! I had to pay 170 dollars to rush him into another vet clinic -the after hours clinic on Kipling! They gave him a shot of cortizon and said to me that Banfields gave my dog too heavy of a dose of the lepto. For two freaking days my dog drug his back hind legs and could barely walk after 3 cortizon shots and some 400 dollars later if it werent a federal offense for someone to drive their vehicle thru a vet clinic I would! I was so angry at this vet! She called me back and still took no responsibility! Never reimbursed me and yeah I should take them to small claims court! Since then My dog has never gone back their and he gets the same lepto shot its not like he has some sort of allergy to it! You people over at Banfield should never touch another animal in your life! Hate you! more

One Star is Too Many 12/4/2009

I am very wary of vaccinations, and told the Banfield vet as much. I have an Italian Greyhound - very low body fat, so the dosage needs to be adjusted.\r Vet gave my dog a shot and within 6-8 hours, my dog was extremely sick, and frighteningly lethargic. I came back first thing the next morning. Not only did they tell me that other dogs had gotten deathly ill from the ""same batch"" of vaccine, to add insult to literal injury, they charged me for both the return office visit - $40 - on top of the original visit, as well as charging me $20 for the treatment shot to counteract the ""bad vaccine"" they had given my dog.\r I find it heinous that they would have used vaccine from a batch that had already proven suspect on my dog - anyone's dog really - especially after I expressed my concern about his breed's sensitivity to vaccines. \r I will never take my dog there again. \r \r I've also run across the whole ""Wellness Plan"" shenanigans with them. I stopped using Banfield regularly after I brought my dog in for neutering, and was told it would cost about $350 - $450. I asked to see the paperwork again the morning I was to drop off the dog and was shocked to see the total at over a thousand. When I insisted on seeing the ""bare minimum"" price up front, it still came to about $700, but could get a ""break"" if I signed up for the Plan. I took my dog to work with me that day, and have used a different vet ever since.\r I don't think I would have used Banfield for even the routine vaccination above if I hadn't gotten an unexpected day off, and my regular vet couldn't fit me in, and I wanted to get the vaccinations done quickly.\r Next time I'll take my baby to my regular vet and get it done right.\r What a nightmare. Pros: Petsmart is awesome, but... Cons: You get questionable vet care at Banfield. more

Worst pet care facility 12/3/2009

I too have had trouble with everything from the wrong diagnosis, to incorrect reasons for the visit. However because they commit you with ""the plan"" you don't have a lot of options. So I continue to take my older dog in, and recently saw Dr. Gardner. She was the most condescending and rude vet I have ever seen. I work at a hospital (she does not know this) and would be fired for EVER treating a patient like that. My dog was a severely abused case, which we adopted and have seen her happy and healthy. However taking her there we are made to feel like horrible people because she is not in perfect condition. If you care about your animal, and your sanity..do not see Dr Gardner. more

Find another vet! 9/29/2009

I strongly advise anyone against going here. I had their Wellness Plan pushed by the receptionist, technician, and vet in the span of 15 minutes. Because it would take too many words to explain all that happened, a routine procedure the vet told me would cost ""around fifty dollars"", two days later changed to over $1300.00. I told them I would not pay this and asked for my dog which had been taken to the back. A different vet came out and said she could do the procedure for $800.00, then $500.00, and finally if I bought their Wellness Plan, $250.00 on top of the $70.00 membership fee and $30.00 first month fee. Charges there are ridiculous, such as ""medical waste"" charges. I have worked in hospitals, clinics, and dr. offices and NEVER do we charge the patient for ""medical waste."" This is a cost assumed to be included in the cost and expenses of the procedure. I am convinced these people get a bonus for every ""Wellness Plan"" they sign up the way it is pushed. It isn't that great either, as their fees for immunizations are much higher than other places I have since called. The Wellness Plan just gets the overly costly fees down to where other vets already are at. Their free clinic is a joke, as I assure you will end up paying before you leave there.\r \r I won't be going back as I don't think they care about the animals at all, only getting as much money as they can out of people who love their pets and want the best for them. They definitely take advantage of this! I hope others can learn from my mistake. Cons: ""Wellness Plan"" like talking to used car salesman more

Don't Waste Your Money 8/1/2009

When Banfield spelled my dog's name wrong and listed the incorrect breed on her paperwork, I should have walked out. When we were taken to the examination room the tech took my dog to the back. The vet returned with her about three minutes later and said she was fine. He then spent the rest of the time talking about their wellness plan. When I tried to ask a question about my dog's health, he totally ignored me and continued talking about ""The Plan."" Now I have to spend more money and go somewhere that actually cares. Cons: See Below more

Horrible Veterinary Care and Customer Service 12/10/2008

We have been going to see Dr. Gardner for about 18 months, since our Chesapeake Bay Retriever was 8 weeks old. I should have followed my gut instincts and cancelled our membership with Banfield after the first visit with Dr. Garner, as she scolded us for having a Chessie (which was bizarre as they are a wonderful breed, no matter how stubborn they are). Since then, our dog has never put up a fight with anyone, except when she is in the room he must be muzzled. Each time we have an appointment, we are made to wait at least 30 minutes before seeing a nurse. And each time we visit with Dr. Garner we are made to purchase (what we feel are) unnecessary medications and treatments and are given somewhat severe diagnosis?s. We feel Dr. Garner has taken advantage of the fact that we simply do not know canine medicine and its practices. She is rude and condescending, and we have given her and her staff one too many chances. If you love your pet, go somewhere else. You and your pet deserve more respect than Dr. Garner is capable of giving you. more

Was not impressed! 11/14/2008

I would not recommend anyone taking your pets to this Banfield. The vet I saw had no compassion for animals. It was very expensive for such BAD care!!! Pros: Good location Cons: Bad service more

Don't go here!!! 7/24/2007

I went to here because I had adopted a cat from Petsmart and got a ?Free First Visit? to make sure the kitten was ok. I waited for 20 minutes to be put into a room. Then they turned on a TV to push their Wellness Plan. After watching that for another 20 minutes we finally saw a ?nurse.? She blurted out some treatments she thought our cat needed and showed us a screen with two prices; one was what we were going to have to pay if we didn?t get their wellness plan, and the other was what we would pay if we did. Of course according to her screen we would be saving tons of money if we got their plan. She then took the cat and did exams and took samples, she didn?t even ask if that was what we wanted. She came back in with the Vet who confirmed our cat was female and asked if we had any questions. We had no idea what was going on. The nurse proceeded to talk about pricing and passed gas while we were talking to her! They then gave us two medications, tried to explain what to do with them, gave us a contract to sign, and the cat all at the same time. By the time we left, we had no idea what to do with the medications, had an extremely freaked out cat, and had spent over $150 on a FREE visit!! Not only that, I was locked into a contract that takes $17 dollars a month out of my account. I tried calling for almost a month before I got to speak to the vet again since the eye medication they gave us clearly stated not to use it in THE EYE!!! My kitten got sicker and sicker during that time, so I ended up taking her to a different vet, another $70. They refuse to give me any of my money back and say that if I want out of the contract I need to give them another $80 so that I will be paying full price for their services. I have no idea what services they are talking about. But please if you care for your animal at all, DO NOT GO HERE!!! Cons: staff, service, pricing, treatment more
