Back Forty Texas BBQ is our favorite BBQ restaurant in the Bay area. The food is always great and so is the service. Their beef ribs remind me of Austin, Texas. They even offer v...

I have lived in TX for 10 years and LOVE Texan BBQ. This place has a very nice environment, excellent service and a wonderful bar. The BBQ though is not what I would recommend. ...

Not impressed 3/17/2006

They seem to be packed, as you have to wait for a table. However, the food is over-priced and not very good. Mass-produced BBQ. The ambience was good... a nice restaurant. It just didn't feel like there was much care given to the dishes they served. I had the ribs which were touch. The sauce tasted like something out of a bottle. more

This is not authentic Texan BBQ 10/26/2005

I have lived in TX for 10 years and LOVE Texan BBQ. This place has a very nice environment, excellent service and a wonderful bar. The BBQ though is not what I would recommend. I had the brisket and was rather disappointed as it was rather tough. The BBQ sauce was certainly not authentic Texan. It had no kick in it at all whihc is the base of a Texan BBQ sauce. Maybe I just went on a bad chef day. Pros: Beer, Service Cons: Food, Food, Food more

Mass production wears 12/13/2004

Barbeque should be laid back- but not sloppy. This place lacks ... Food is OK.. but nothing one couldn't re-create on their own, at home- for 1/2 the price. Beans must be dumped out of a can and warmed up. The best part was the baked potato- which was good. In short- If there weren't a bar, I don't think this place would be so popular. more

Hmmm - Not the best 7/22/2004

I BBQ a lot, go to rib fest in Sparks every year etc. etc.. Summary: Ribs - Tender tasty, falls off the bone Chicken - Plain, dry, no flavor Links - Authentic? No. Looked like an Aidel's chicken sausage. - Sucked Beans - The worst beans I have ever had. No hickory/molasses flavor. Tasted like a can of pinto beans. No flavor at all and too watery. Where are the nice pieces of bacon? Salad - Good fresh lettuce, tasty ranch. You can't really lose on a salad. Doesn't take much to make one. Baked Potato - Pretty good. I like the sour cream, chives, butter bacon approach. It tasted fresh and was hot. Cornbread - Not bad, little too much on the dry side for me, but decent. In summary, if you are looking for authentic Texas style BBQ or even Southern Style this is not the place. Pros: Quick Take-Out, Good Service Cons: , Flavor, Preparation more

Best BBQ in the Bay Area! 12/3/2002

Used to live a couple of blocks away, so the Back Forty was a regular stop on my restaurant circuit. The pork ribs are fantastic! Smoked Texas style, they are served a bit pink with a smooth and tangy sauce. A typical dinner will include a satisfying soup/salad, corn bread, meat and garlic mashies. I've never been dissapointed in the food or the service in the 20+ times I have eaten here. Decor is kitschy Rodeo/Western but fun for the kids. While the prices are reasonable, the wait staff is excellent, they are very well trained. Since I've been living in the City, there are few reasons to head back to the East Bay but the Back Forty would be one darn good reason! Pros: Great BBQ Sauce, Good Value, Professional Service Cons: Too far from SF more

good q' 7/29/2002

the meat is smoked, tender, flavorful. It's not the place to go for fancy surroundings, it's good for authentic Texas BBQ. Pros: good brisket, clean and friendly, affordable Cons: crowded more
