Best

I've been a fan of Baby Blues for a long time. They have stupendous sweet tea, perfect pecan pie, bitchin' blackened catfish, and kickin' collard greens. Everything here rocks. I ...

Worst

The place is not the cleanest, our table was still greasy even after they wiped it with the dreaded wet towel, I sat there trying not to touch the table with any part of my body. ...

real bbq in la 8/10/2005

I just moved here from North Carolina and was craving real bbq when a coworker told me about Baby Blues. I tried it and was blown away. The pulled pork was so tender it was like being at a pig pickin'. The sandwiches are topped with slaw, like they're supposed to. The bbq sauce is delicious- not all sweet and ketchupy. I've since tried the ribs (both long bones and baby back), and they're some of the best ribs I've ever had, anywhere. The atmosphere is great- friendly vibe, the music rocks. I had to check out back to see if they were cooking the food in a shack, like back home. My only regret is that I can't bring my mom here when she visits. It'd break her heart to find out folks in California were making better collard greens than hers. more

Pricey and worth the extra bucks 7/9/2005

I live in Venice. I eat here often and the food rocks, the waitress is hot (and I'm a straight chick!), it's a little spicy, complicated and sophisticated (the food not the chick)..I'm stunned that other reviewers here would think this place is anything other than great.. I've been eating bbq all over including Texas and South Carolina & this place has it going on. Even the sides and that's saying something. I've never had them run out of anything but I eat early. They make the food themselves, are relatively newish and maybe they're ironing out the amounts they need without waste. You must order the shrimp. The Okra is great and so is the corn. The joint is funky and the music is authentic blues. Great hidden date place. Pros: great food, comfy, laid back, not trendy Cons: a little pricey more

Whoa BBQ 7/8/2005

I can't even begin to understand what that guy was talking about when he wrote the place was sub-par. I just ate there and had some of the best ribs I've ever had, I was blown away with the shrimp (BBQ'd and served with some kind of spicy-limey sauce) and the sides were some of the best sides I've ever had at a BBQ restaurant. They were out of the Banana pudding which my friend said was painfully good, but I think I would have exploded if I ate it anyway. Note: try the corn. It's weird, but damn good. I can't comment on the service because I ate at the counter, but the owners were cooking and we had a blast with them. So far it's the best que I've had in l.a. Pros: Great atmosphere, counter seats a must Cons: packed on weekends more

This place is in my neighborhood and I'm ashamed that it took me until last week to go (been opened for about 8 months). I have since been twice in the same week. I never do that, as I am a bit over-the-top of having variety in where I dine. My overall experience was amazing. I am crazy about personable service. They give it to you here. Take a chance...chat with the crew there. You won't regret it. I have since told so many people about this place. You will too after you go. MISC: Start with the Miss Brown plate. It's a good intro to what they do. Ribs...ribs...ribs. You gotta try the baby backs. Banana "Crack". This desert will knock your socks off. Save room! Pork and Beans. Amazing. Okra. Just like my grandmother makes in Louisiana. Mac n Cheese. Great stuff. Bring your booze. more

This is a great neighborhood place. Excellent food, great casual atmosphere and friendly staff. We've started going here on a weekly basis. The chef and owners have even been known to come around and chat with the guests. The chicken sandwich is delicious. It comes piled high with coleslaw and you can't go wrong with any of the sides. I think the corn is the best, with tons of sprinkled parmesan cheese. Pros: friendly staff, excellent service, delicious food more

food rocks, service needs some work 2/19/2005

Great, vibrant hole in the wall BBQ joint. Pulled pork, pork n' beans and links sandwich are fabulous. The cornbread was warm, spicy, chuncky and delicious. Bring your own beer and wine as they don't have a liquor license. All the dishes I tried were consistently good and the brightly colored art and blues music created a fun atmosphere. Only downside is that they still have a few kinks to work out regarding service. They should put take out menus near the door instead of having to ask for one. They also seemed understaffed and ran out of many of the sides and a few of the entrees. Pros: inexpensive, delicious, fun Cons: understaffed, ranout of some dishes more

BEEN THERE TWICE AND EVERYTIME I'VE BEEN THERE THEY RUN OUT OF THINGS. NO GREENS, NO SPINACH, NO MAC AND CHEESE. THE RIBS WERE OK. THE CORN BREAD WAS LOUSY, LIKE A HARD HOCKEY PUCK. THE SAUCES ARE WEAK AND HERE IS THE WORST THING. THEY GAS BROIL THE LINKS AND MEATS. EVERY GOOD BBQ JOINT THAT I'VE BEEN TO USES A WOOD OR COAL BROILER. THE GAS GIVES IT A BAD TASTE. SORRY, THAT'S HOW I SEE IT. THE CORN WAS GOOD THOUGH. Pros: corn on cob Cons: , run out if things, no vibe more
