One of a kind restaurant! 12/10/2010

This restaurant is NOT closed. This place is absolutely breathtaking. There is a huge area downstairs where you can have private parties, as well as an area in the back. Hookahs are available, and the FOOD is fantastic! This is the gem of Park Slope. Specials are offered daily. more

5 Star 3/7/2010

As a fan of their sister restaurant Barbes, I went out to Brooklyn to try Babouche....what a pleasure! Pros: Amazing atmosphere more

Awesome food! 2/24/2010

my boyfriend and i just ate there looking to have some hookah and food.. food ws incredible, service was great.. we happen to be the only 2 people there! but had a great private alcove spot in the back..music was great too.. Pros: service, food, ambience more

Fabulous 1/7/2010

Went on a Monday night for their ""steak night"" - no better deal around! Best Filet Mignon in Park Slope. The food is consistently good. The decor is beautiful. They offer both traditional moroccan cuisine (which is definitely the best in ny) and moroccan/french/american fusion. Went on a Saturday night for a birthday party in the lounge which has a fabulous atmosphere. The brunch menu is a winner as well. Some nights they have live music. Pros: Atmosphere, Food & Service more

Amazing Seafood! 6/25/2009

Babouche has a seafood special on Tuesdays for $19.95 featuring a seafood appetizer and entree. Many delightful choices are available. I began with the tuna tartare. It was seasoned wonderfully and came in a plentiful portion. The entree was a Sea Bass, presented whole, and again seasoned to perfection. The meat was tender yet moist. I was very very happy. Service was above par and very friendly. The host welcomed me and my friend, answered our questions about the restaurant, made a wine recommendation that worked extremely well with my food choices, and offered to give us a tour of the back lounge when our meal was done. My friend had the calamari salad and red snapper. He raved about the quality of the fish. For $19.95 we both felt we got more than our moneys worth. Pros: Great Prices, Tasty Dishes, Fun Atmosphere more

Closed - no longer open. 8/25/2008

This restaurant is closed and has been for quite some time. So has the Casablanca Tea Room.......too bad though since I enjoyed the atmospheres at both restaurants and their food was delicious. Cons: They are closed..... more

Cute place....but experience wes not exceptional 11/20/2007

The restaurant has its highs and its lows. For starters on a Friday night I expected there to be more of a vibe and crowd....but it was quiet and pretty much empty. When I asked to be seated in a great table the waitress told me it was for four people. Although there were only three other tables filled up at the restaurant she said ""you never know when four people will want to come in and eat"". To her disappointment that never happened. In fact the table stayed empty the whole night. Anyway after about 20 minutes of being seated in various spots that were either in the VERY HOT upstairs dining room or a table by the elevator....I finally wrangled myself into the little tent area where the ambiance was allot better. However I will say that my guest was over 6 ft tall and had a hard time on the low seats. Anyway, the service was good and so was the food. The drinks were not that great, but were VERY strong. The plus is that they were only $5! Overall it was a lack luster evening that I could do without. Most likely they will not be seeing me again. Not sure if I would reccomend especially for the quality compared to the high prices. Pros: Food and Nice Waiter Cons: Prices, Kinda dead, Forgettable more

good times 4/24/2007

Best service and atmosphere 4/16/2007

I went to Babouche sunday night and had the best time. I went with my date and had no reservation. We were seated right away and i was in awe of the atmoshphere. Since we've never had this type of food befor our watier (Matt) led us though the menu of some of the best and or traditional dishes, and we were wowed!! Pros: Service, Ambience Cons: Parking more

BEST Place in Soho!!!! Hands Down! 4/15/2007

I have been a repeat customer at Babouche many times and out of all the restaurants I frequent in Soho, it is by far the best place to go for food, ambience and service! Every time I dine there, I am never disappointed with the food, and you just cannot beat the atmosphere. Even in the heart of Soho, there is absolutely no attitude at all from the people who work there; unlike many restaurants in the area, you can dine there and feel welcome, at home and very well taken care of! Pros: FOOD, SERVICE, MANAGEMENT more

The Terrible Service (Manager) Ruined my 30th Birthday! 4/15/2007

I reserved the lounge at this place to celelbrate my 30th birthday 3.5 weeks in advance. The week of my birthday, they called me to say that the manager that made my reservations didn't know what he was doing, and was fired. They said I had to garuntee a minnimum of $3000 for my dinner and that they could only do a prix fixe menu of $55- literally 3 days before my birthday, after I had invited 20 people and given them a complete different impression! This is wrong. Their compromise was to bring the minnimum garuntee to 1,000- but that was b.s. b/c if each person is forced to do a $55 prix fixe, the total would be the same, but they wouldn't budget on this point. plus, they were very snooty (even thought they were the ones in the wrong), like they were doing me a favor and very unorganized. it took me calling several times after i made my reservation to have a menu sent to me so i could pick some apps for my guests. each time i called for the menu, they had to make my reservation all over b/c they couldn't find it in their system!! in the end, i took my party to cedrillon (in the neighborhood) and had a great time. more

WORST SERVICE/MANAGEMENT EVERRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4/13/2007

My friends and I found this place after shopping and we thought it looked cool, so we went in. The decor was so unique, it was like a movie set or something. The food was OK. The drinks were great, albeit pricey. BUT the service was about the worst I've had in NYC. The manager was CRAZY. She was incredibly RUDE, unwelcoming, and she acted like we were inconveniencing her by being there!! We spent a lot of money in there too - so we couldn't figure out what the hell her problem was. We literally thought she must have been high or something. We finished our dinner, went to Angelika theater. After the movie, we decided to go back for few drinks. The door was closed but people were still inside. The WACKO manager came out saying ""closed for staff party"". I've read the other reviews on here and they all say the same thing - everything about the place is great except the service and management. That's too bad, because it's a place I'd like to frequent. more

Great Morrocan food 4/2/2007

Fantastic Morrocan food! Had the Poulet - great blend of sweet and savory. Definitely have the mint tea. Beautiful decor with belly dancers at 9PM. Pros: food, decor more

Simply...Great. 3/17/2007

We (a group of 6) decided to check this newer SOHO place out on a recommendation from a friend. Babouche didn't disappoint . The decor was spectacular and the low chairs/couches filled with pillows were surprisingly comfortable. The staff was exceedingly helpful and friendly (not to mention plentiful). The one thing that exceeded all the rest, however, was the food. We opted to start with several appetizers and share them. The tuna tartar was our collective favorite, but the hummus ranks among the best I've had. The cigares de crevette were very good and the salad with octopus (which was VERY tender) pleasantly surprised those who hadn't had octopus before. We ordered the Pastilla au poulet as an app - the cinnamon and sweet flavor probably ranked as our group's second favorite. Pros: FOOD, service, decor/ambience more

Hottest moroccan get away in NYC 3/12/2007

i have just finished reading the reviews for this restaurant and decided to visit this place. i took a few friends with me and we were aw'ed by the decor. it was beautiful. the hostess was friendly and quickly showed us to our seats. we decided to go upstairs and look down onto soho while we ate.our waiter was pleasant and eager answer our questions.which we had plenty of since we didnt really know to much about moroccan cuisine. we decided to order couscous ,tagines and mediterrean salads...the found was incredible...although at times it did get loud and hectic it was a fun place to eat in. the staff was friendly , the decor was out of this world ...great place for the weekends...or a first date...or a group of friends to meet up and have a good time like we did...i totally recommend this place if ur looking for a good tiime with ur food Pros: decor, friendly, food, ambience, Cons: hectic more

Rudest Staff; Worst Service 3/12/2007

I went to Babouche this past Friday night for a friend's birthday. When I first called to make the reservation, the person who answered the phone took my number/name and said someone would call me back. No one called me so the next day I called again. They took my reservation for 8:30PM. Later that day someone else calls me back and says 8:30PM won't work and that they only had either 8PM or 10PM. I asked why and they said they had a large party at 10PM- I responded that it didn't make sense that their 10PM was open then since they obviously would not be able to accomodate us. The lady said ""uuuuh ok forget it keep it at 8:30PM"" and hung up. On Friday it was utter confusion. We arrived and there was no hostess. We stood about for some time then someone told us to go to the 2nd Floor. We went upstairs and the waitress asked why we were there. We told her someone else told us to go there and she said nastily ""well you can look but i don't think so"". So we went back down where finally we saw a hostess and told her about our reservation. We had to wait at the crowded bar/entrance area for about 15 mins. There was another fiasco with a friend sitting on a chair and a busboy telling her to ""get up"". After that we were pretty fed up and just left. NEVER GO HERE. The staff is unprofessional, rude, and the service is unreliable. I don't care how cute it looks inside, decor does NOT make up for that attitude. Pros: Pretty Decor Cons: Nasty Staff - Rude, Attitude, Unprofessional! more

HORRIBLE service 3/12/2007

This place has HORRIBLE service. My friends and I (reservation for party of 8) arrived to no hostess and stood awkwardly by the crowded front door until the hostess finally arrived and shoo'ed us to their second floor. Then the second floor hostess didn't even know where to seat us and told us to go back down to the first floor. The first floor hostess then told us to wait by the bar for 15 minutes with attitude even though we complained we had reservations and it was for a friend's birthday. THIRTY minutes later one of the waiters told my friend to ""GET UP."" from the chair she was sitting on. Confused she got up, and he placed menus on the seat and walked away. She sat back down (ontop of the menus) and he came storming back tellin her to ""GET UP"" again with the utmost rudeness. My friend demanded to know why and he claimed they were tables. Even though they were right next to the front door and looked exactly like a bar stool. Ridiculous. Cons: Horrible Service, Staff have no sense of manners more

Worst Management in NYC 3/5/2007

We showed up early for our reservations, but was seated an hour and 20 mintues late. the hostess tried to be ""nice"" and offer us a round of drinks, but when by the time we were seated, she retracted offer and even pretended not to know what we were talking about!!!!! the manager was just as bad!!!. everyone was just rude and obnoxious. such a shame, as we'd never go back or remotely recommend this place to anyone! Don't bother with this place. Pros: the cons take away from everything this place has to offer Cons: Slow Service, Terrible Management more

A transporting Experience 12/22/2006

You would never know that you are in NYC anymore. I have traveled to Morocco and eaten in the countries best known restaurants. Babouche is just as beautiful (if not more since you really appreciate the fact that Morocco came to NYC) than any of those places hidden in the alleys of Morocco's cities. The decor is for lack of a better word, outstanding. The food is good - could use some work - but I will grant them some leeway since they just opened and they are related to Barbes which has yet to fail in the gastronomical sense. I would suggest Babouche to those looking for an escape/transportation from real life or for those looking for romance. Pros: The atmosphere is UNBELIEVABLE! Cons: The food needs some tweaking more

really bad service 12/15/2006

i have eaten with a group of people the other day , i thought it was gonna be a great experience , before dinner i went to the restaurant and amazed with the decor but after having dinner i decided not to go back there again, the food was awful , i had the couscous and it was too dry for my taste, the ambiance is cheesy they kept clapping with the music throughout the whole night i guess the owners and we couldn't actually concentrate on our conversation, the service was awful we have this waiter and he kept forgetting to take our order just to give the orders we have waited like 20 minutes. overall i will not go back there and not recommend it , loss of time and money i spent around 50 dollars myself but i had an unsatisfied belly...don't go there more
