Went to the Flatbush and Bergen location to have a larger item packed and shipped. Staff was friendly and helpful and said they could pack the item and call me with the total later that day. The packing estimate was $50 so I said OK and gave them my credit card info. They called back later in the day and gave me the final sizes and weights for two packages and quoted $380 for my total for shipping fedex ground. Putting the package details in to the fedex rate calculator online said that they would ship for $224. Away We Go said my packing total was $70, since it took more packaging than the estimate. This I was fine with, but that leaves about $80 in markup for fedex ground--meaning I could have had it packed and shipped at a fedex location for about $80 cheaper. I understand these places gouge you on boxes and packing expenses, and I was fine with that because I was in a hurry. But you should also be aware that they mark up the shipping by apparently about 35% over what you'd pay through Fedex. I see others have posted the same markup complaint so I should've checked reviews before I went in. Learn from our mistakes and stay away!!!! more

Customer Service is non-existent at the Flatbush and Washington Ave locations. Price gouging is rampant though. They charged me 78 dollars to ship something fedex ground. when i got home I called fedex with the same weight and dimensions and they quoted me 41 dollars, so this place basically doubled the shipping charge. \r \r Went in needing to box and ship a folding bike. I have shipped this bike coast to coast twice and checked it as baggage on flights twice. I knew what I needed but every simple question I asked or request I made for a smaller box was answered in a long drawn out condescending tone ending with ""we do this all the time"". They just take over and by the time it was over, I was overcharged and oversold a bill of goods. \r \r When I asked Bill the owner why they don't give an estimate of charges before the box was taped and packed, they said they don't give prices because the prices are visible (if you behind you, up and over at the displays not in eye line). That answer also means that you have to watch them every minute they are packing and estimate it yourself (5 bags of styrofoam peanuts? In addition to a waste of my money, how about trying a more sustainable filler for boxes? Those 5 bags will sit in a landfill for the next 100 years Bill. There are plenty of alternatives. Seems you care as much about the environment as you do your customers which is zilch!) \r \r So what should have cost 65 to 70 dollars tops to box and ship cost 129. I left annoyed, irritated, and ripped off. It was a completely miserable experience. I pray my package is delivered and worried because they instill absolutely zero confidence. I completely agree with all the other low rated reviews. Buyer beware! \r \r Do anything you can to avoid ""Away We Go Postal."" I wish I would have used the UPS store instead. Bad Service. Wasteful upselling/price gouging. Condescending, know-it-all attitudes. It's a horrible operation.\r \r Their slogan should be ""Away We Go - with your money"" making the customer feeling like ""Going Postal."" more

The new JCP catalog store is a jewel on Flatbush Ave 3/14/2011

My husband and I went in to pick up our JCPenney item and ended up shipping a package we had in our car forever. The shop was clean, bright and well-organized. We found the staff, was extremely friendly and chatted with us about the neighborhood and the store. They offer a variety of services (as listed by the previous reviewer). One cool service they offer is accepting and holding packages for customers--very convenient for all those Amazon and Fresh Direct deliveries. They also have a nice selection of supplies. more

The best shipping center in Park Slope, Brooklyn 3/13/2011

This place is the best. I have all my packages shipped here instead of my house because I know that I'll get them and not miss the delivery guy- then have to figure out to where to go to get my package Also, a huge plus- it allows me to ship to a business address over a residential address, which in the case of my flat screen TV, saved me $100 in shipping. I could have packages sent to my office, but not having to deal with the hassle of getting oversize packages home on the subway is worth $2.50 pick-up charge to me. $25 to register for the year then $1 for small packages - $2.50 for large, that?s a great deal to me. more

No Need To Go The Post Office 9/12/2009

though they charged me a little more than what the post office does, the customer service was well worth it! Pros: service WITH a smile Cons: They do charge a fee more

Great Place to get eveything done 9/8/2009

I don't mind paying extra when the service is as good as these guys offer. They packaged up my stuff then politely explained my shipping choices. OPTIONS, it's great to have them and these guys will let you know so. Not like the rude jerks at the Post Office. I also signed up for the package retrieval service so I don't have to chase down my UPS driver again or spend $18 bucks to go back and forth from FedEx to pick up my packages. Pros: better than the UPS store Cons: not enough locations more

CAVEAT EMPOR 9/4/2009

Avoid this third party vendor if you can! They are a vendor of FedEx and as such, they charge a convenience charge and, most importantly, if there is a problem with your shipment, they will blame FedEx and NOT REFUND YOU their charges, only FedEx's/ I used AWG for a 2-3 day international shipment. It cost over $150, but did not arrive for 7 days. I called FedEx and they agreed that this was unacceptable. They refunded AWG $20 which AWG refunded to me. But the other $130??? Gone forever! FedEx blamed AWG, AWG blamed FedEx, and not only was I caught in the middle, but I was stuck staying up at late hours in another ocuntry just to get through to AWG (who repeatedly put me on hold, told me to call back, and basically offered little help or clarity.) Use AWG if you're lazy and want the convenience, but when problems arise don't expect any more convenience, and certainly do not expect a refund. Pros: closer than FedEx Cons: paclage arrived late, out $130, dozens of phone calls more
