HOUSTON'S WORST SCHOOL FOR ESTHETICS & MASSAGE 7/25/2011

ZERO/6...If you plan to obtain a License in AESTHETICS YOU will be wasting your time & money @ AVEDA....The Instructors are completely uneducated, extremely ignorant, uncultivated...and amazingly proud of all of the above. As far as professionalism goes, ask yourselves if you want to be in an environment where gossiping is encouraged and jealousies are running RAMPID. Beyond this, the Instructors do not even have a diploma-doubt even if they passed their GED- and the turn-over is HIGH. Their skin is full of acne....and they keep pushing AVEDA products to treat acne-bulgaris, as if Dermatologists should not exist. For many of us who are in the medical field & just needed an AESTHETICIAN Diploma...AVEDA Graduates are the Radioshack of Cosmetics. Think twice, before entering that School. I think the director, Crysta, is either ignorant for hiring such instructors or gets NAIVE students to join her school. One of the day teachers, I think her name is LYNN, needs to be sued...for what she is teaching, the profanity in her language, & her gossipping are unacceptable! Crysta...YOU the ""directress:"" Are you Blind or Stupid for hiring such instructors? Besides NO-ONE hires AVEDA AESTHETICIANS...they are all ""pimply,"" and smell of ""home-made-stew..."" YIKES! Clean-up the place....and the profanity! HS more

Book an appointment with Cathy Theiss for your color and cut 6/29/2010

I have never had my hair professionally colored before because of the expense. I heard there was a salon at The Aveda Institute that is less expensive than normal salons because it is a school. I really wanted blond highlights and since this was affordable, I decided to try it out. I could not be happier with the results. Cathy was very thorough to talk to me and really understand the look I was trying to achieve. She recommended the color of blond I should go with and she was spot on. I will never use another stylist for my color or haircut and once she graduates, I will follow her to whatever salon she goes to......no matter how far I have to drive. Pros: She listens, recommends & is talented! more

BEST spa services! And bonus... GREAT PRICES! 5/20/2010

I have been to Aveda Institute several times in the past year and have never had a bad experience. This is a great place for working moms to be able to go and be pampered for a great price! The Spa is top of the line. I have been to other spas in the area and feel I recieved just as great of service as I did there, if not better. Love this place! Pros: Great prices, beautiful facility, well trained students more

Great Place to Go! 1/10/2009

This was my first time going to the Aveda Institute. I have always gone to Aveda salons to get my hair cut and color done. The prices were so much cheaper than the salon prices, I thought I should try it out. Since I was new, I wanted to get just my haircut and wait on the color. I wanted to see how they did before I trusted them with my color! I was a little nervous... it is kind of intimidating having the instructors come over and check your stylist's work. Plus, my hair is really thick and I thought it was going to take forever to cut. I knew this going in though, and thought that was the tradeoff. I ended up LOVING it! My stylist gave me a wonderful haircut. It looks just like it normally does when I leave my normal high end salon. It normally takes a stylist about an hour to cut and dry my hair do to the thickness of it. I was in there an hour and a half from the time I got there to when I got back in my car. I couldn't be more impressed with the place. I love my haircut so much, that I made an appointment for highlights with the same stylist. I still can't believe that I got an Aveda haircut for only $15!!! I normally pay $65+ without tip. I highly recommend the Aveda Institute in The Woodlands!\r \r Pros: Great Haircuts, cheap prices, very professional staff Cons: Takes a little bit longer than normal, hours more

Great Results, Great Prices, A Little Time Consuming (to be expected) 11/23/2008

I took my two teens (boy and girl) and had their hair cut, colored, and styled. The prices are great! The students who did their hair both seemed confident but caucious. They do take their time to avoid any mistakes. (haircuts are temporarily permanent and they know this) So you are going to allow atleast an hour. Their haircuts, the color and the styling turned out pretty good. Not any different than the service and results we've received at the salons (Aveda and Visible Changes). It just takes longer to get the results because they are sooo careful. The instructors are incredibly attentive and since I was able to sit in an empty clients' chair to watch, I was able to signal the instructor if I picked up on any doubt on the student's face. You can request somenone with more hours if you want. The price is the same. They actually gave me (mom&&) a free make up application. It looked great. I was pleased, the kids were happy with their results and we had money for FOOD after! Gotta feed teens! LOL. All in all it was a positive experience. We will go again. If it will make you feel more comfortable, take someone with you who can just sit in and watch. Someone who will speak up if they need to :) Pros: Results, Prices, Comfort Cons: Time Consuming more

Best Value For Your Money 4/25/2007

I was tired of paying $50+ for a haircut and decided to give this place a try. (By the way, they are now located at 19241 David Memorial Dr. near The Woodlands). It seems they have improved their service since the previous reviews, and possibly going during the weekday makes a difference. When I called to make an appointment there were plenty of openings and when I arrived I was seen on time. The salon is very nice inside and the staff is friendly. The students are in training so they take their time....My haircut and style took almost 2 hours. I received a wash cut & dry for $12. The products used were Aveda. The young lady cutting my hair did a nice job and her instructor checked her work throughout the cut. The blow-dry/style wasn't normally how I do it, but how often does the blow-dry/style turn out the way you would do it yourself anyway (good or bad)? I had a pedicure afterwards. It was a full pedicure with leg and foot massage that took place in a separate area just for pedicures, and it lasted about 1 hour ($14). Again, it was overseen by an instructor and my toes turned out nicer than when I've had them done by more experienced cosmetologists. I would recommend this place to anyone who isn't too fanatical about their hair and to anyone that has the extra time to spend on pampering themselves a bit. I'll be going back to try out some of their other services. In my opinion, the $12 haircut was an excellent value for the money compared to my normal $50 cuts, and I am now kicking myself for previously spending $30+ for pedicures when I can get the same if not better for less than 1/2 the price at this place. Pros: Atmosphere, products, service, value Cons: Not for people on a tight schedule more

Avoid this spa at all costs 11/3/2006

This is a really awful place. If you get the treatment you are lucky and it might be nice, but they over book, outright lie and turn people with appointments away. We will NEVER use them again. Please choose another place if you want to pamper yourself and never book a group event with them. Pros: Few - cheaper Cons: Bad staff, rude people more

the nice facial was not worth the trip or poor customer service 11/3/2006

My friends and I scheduled a group party 2 months in advance for this weekend, and were overbooked and cheated out of our full reservations. When I went to get the facial that was what was left of our menu of services we had planned for, I was told (after a one-hour drive) that they only had space for me to get a 30 minute facial instead of a 60 minute, and the whole trouble was blamed on my friend who did the booking for our group. They said that she hadn't booked anything at all until the day before, which was a lie, as was the part where they said that i was the one in the group who was only supposed to get the 30minute facial, when she had volunteered to take the short one herself.\r Then they told my other friend and me that we needed to pay for our services out of pocket that day, even though the deposit we made months before more than covered the cost of the services. (They even showed us an invalid check from some woman we had never heard of who allegedly made the payment for us, when our friend who did the booking gave a credit card.)\r My friend who did the booking was home with a sick baby, so they just blamed all of the ""miscommunication"" on her, and kept saying that she didn't schedule anything for us until the day before, and that her deposit was made to another Aveda salon somewhere else and was refunded. ALL LIES. \r I was so terribly angry that they just exploited the fact that she wasn't there to confront them with what really happened, basically taking advantage of her sick child. \r \r We went to them because my friend had heard good things about their skill, and they had such good prices, but we learned a hard lesson that it would have been worthwhile to spend more money to actually be treated well and to get what we asked for somewhere else.\r \r The 30minute facial was nice, but not worth the trouble. Pros: nice facial, you get to pick your aroma "flavor" Cons: horrible customer service more
