I spent a small fortune there with absolutely no positive outcome. I left this practice because Dr. Wood REPEATEDLY REFUSES TO GET ON THE PHONE TO DISCUSS ISSUES OR QUESTIONS AND INSISTS ON FILTERING EVERYTHING THROUGH HER ASSISTANT MEG WHO THINKS SHE KNOWS IT ALL AND OFFERS HER OWN ADVISE WHICH IS AS I SEE THINGS NOT APPROPRIATE. In my opinion, THIS IS NOT A WAY TO RUN A PRACTICE, especially with a dog with very serious medical issues. She will never see you in person when you bring the dog in or when you pick it up after all day testing, and will talk to you on the phone ONE TIMEPOST A VISIT to discuss her findings, and that is it for direct communication. In finally, after months of dealing through Meg, I spoke up and then I was TOTALLY BLACK LISTED! The Practice ManagerJulia Marlin is a COLD, UNCARING AND TOTALLY NON RESPONSIVE PERSON with ABSOLUTELY NO COMPASSION WHATSOEVER FOR ONE'S PROVEN FINANCIAL SITUATION OR ANY CARE FOR THE ANIMAL. IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD THEIR FEES, YOU CAN FORGET USING THIS PRACTICE AND NO ADJUSTMENTS IN FEES ARE AT ALL POSSIBLE IN SPITE OF PROVING MY FINANCIAL SITUATION! Marlin's MOST OFTEN USED WORD IS ""NO""!\r DR. WOOD IS LIKEWISE THE ADJECTIVES I'VE DESCRIBED TO DISCUSS MARLIN. I would be VERY CAUTIOUS in choosing this Dr. Wood and this practice if your pet needs a specialist. She did nothing to help, but make me spend thousands of dollars there and put my dog through endless tests to IN NO WAY GET HIS DIABETES UNDER CONTROL. There are many other specialty practices here in the Austin and Round Rock area that have to my knowledge competent and caring physicians that you can talk to with your questions and concerns and who will allow you face to face meetings when you bring your pet into the practice. I would rate Dr. Wood way below the one star rating and ditto for Ms. Marlin who incidentally TOTALLY CONTROLS THIS PRACTICE. There is NO WAY you are able to find out who the owners of this practice are either, which for me puts up a huge amount of RED FLAGS! R. Sloan more

My 11 year old Lucy suddenly got very sick stopped eating and drink and vomitting. we took her to the regular vet 2 xray, 1 shot for vomitting and pain pills she still wouldn't eat or drink. so on a saturday night around 9 pm I took her the hospital and blood test found her blood sugar very high and kidney's starting to fail, due to her age we weren't sure if she would make it through the treatment so I had to let her go. They were very professional and helpful during this very difficult time for me. I picked up her ashes today and she's now at home in a beautiful wooden box with photo frame that has a lock of her hair in a pink bow and w nice clay heart with her name and paw print on it. If you have a sick animal please trust when I say they can are your best bet for the best service. Thank you for helping me say goodbye to my Lucy she was the love of my life and I miss her dearly. My dog was recently bitten by a huge rattlesnake when we were on a walk. She became immediately VERY painful and swollen. I called my vet and they referred me to Heart of Texas for treatment. She was taken to get pain medication as soon as we got there, which I really appreciated. Dr. Cannon explained the treatment with anti-venom, and although it was expensive, the treatment really worked. My girl recovered and it was worth every penny. All the doctors and staff I spoke to seemed to care about Allie, and they did not mind me calling to check on her every few hours - even overnight. While it is true that emergency vet treatments can be expensive, I am very grateful for all they did for her and I highly recommend them. more

I really wish I would have read these reviews and not trusted this clinic so much...even though I was referred there by our regular vet... I had taken my sweet, beautiful cat to our vet because she wasn't eating and was peeing out of her box..all classic kidney/uti symptoms..my vet did some blood tests and have her IV fluids, but didn't have sufficient equipment for xrays... I'm now going to be calling and complaining to them... I really wish I could have done some research of my own after the ""specialty"" vet came in with the x-ray results (which saw fluid in her lungs and abdomen)..wanting to do all of these other tests costing $1500-1900 (my husband freaked and we decided to put her down)..she sad she was concerned my cat wouldn't even make it through the night..scare tactic?!?! Hind sight is sooo much clearer...My kitty was only 6-7yrs old... altho my cat was having respiratory distress, none of that was happening here at home...she would always pant like that when I took her to the vet..but the MAIN reason I believe was that she had an infection (kidneys/uti...I'm almost 100% sure due to symptoms)..The vet just said that that may just be a secondary condition... They never even offered to at least start her on antibiotics or an IV and drain fluid (pleural effusion)..i found this article (see link below) by a cornell vet saying the prognosis was actually really good...i will never come back to this place..and have learned a huge lesson about doing your own research and not trusting so much ..RIP Crystal..we'll see u in heaven later sweet girl... :( :( :( http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/news/lungs.htm more

Best Experience Ever! 4/3/2012

Dr. Vasanjee saved my dog. He is very knowledgeable, went over everything step by step, calm, positive and most of all, caring. The staff and front office ladies were kind and very supportive. I have already told my family and friends the positive experience I've had here. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for trustworthy doctors and staff. Pros: null Cons: null more

VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE NON SERVICE 3/1/2012

I was very disappointed with this hospital. We arrived tonight at 6:15 with my beagle's legs hurting her real bad off and on, by 7:15 no one still had not seen my dog so I asked the receptionist when someone was going to see her and I heard her ask someone if they had forgotten about her and then she told me that someone would be with us shortly, at 7:50 still no one had seen my beagle. The whole time we were there she was crying because she was in pain. I would not have minded staying if someone would have at least kept us informed and just check on my dog but no one ever did. I hope that they will learn something from this event and that no other dog gets mistreated like mine did tonight. Pros: null Cons: null more

compassion, intelligent, dignified 12/2/2011

Heart of Texas Round Rock Vet specialists 24 hr emergency clinic off 35 is a most unbelievable clinic that has a group of the most compassionate, loving, intelligent group of Docs, Techs, and receptionists that you will ever run across. The Docs don't let their egos get in the way of calling other Vets who are "off duty" to give your loved pet the best outcome. They share ideas and have a critical care specialist to boot!! The Techs go above and beyond. They aren't there for a paycheck but to CARE for your pet. The Techs will lay with them while they are on IV's etc or just back there being observed to allay their anxiety. They truly are here because they love animals. This group gives each pet the dignity, love, and care we demand our human family members receive. Dr Wilby, Dr Womack, Dr Higgabotham, Dr Ashbaugh, Dr Lowe, Dr Comquest,Dr Cannon, Nicole, Courtenay, Kristi, and those I may not have personally run into (also sorry for miss-spelling of names,) your beautiful souls were so appreciated by GReddy and the Baugh family Pros: null Cons: null more

Dr. Goeff Hennig and staff saved my dog! 11/11/2011

My 12 lb doxie mix got mauled and bitten by a 85lb boxer a few months ago and my college friend, Dr. Shelley Pasternak, referred me to the best wound care specialist in Texas, Dr. Geoff Hennig. Her skin was literally falling off her right flank but a few months later, thanks to Heart of Texas Specialty Center, you can't even tell what happened. Their techs Pam and Brandon are incredible as well. Pros: null Cons: null more

Vet Services 5/2/2011

They are extremely expensive and in times of need, they seem to only be concerned with the additional costs which they can get from you. Everytime I was there checking on our puppy, the bet continued to say, "let's go over your NEW estimate for additional services." I proceeded to tell her I didn't want to hear any more about additional services, let's try to figure out what is wrong. The bedside manner of the over night vet was less than favorable. They missed the diagnosis 100% for my puppy and I am extremely disappointed in their services. more

Best care I have ever seen from a vet! 12/25/2010

These guys are amazing. Dr. Cannon, Dr. Reynolds, et. all were very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. After taking my dog in for kidney failure they were able to help him back to health. Their staff is extremely caring and go out of their way to answer any questions you may have. They clearly extended the time my dog has on this earth with us. They are my "Christmas Miracle". Thank you guys you were great! more

A wonderful and caring place 11/26/2010

If your dog has cancer, this is the place you should take him. They know what they are doing and explain everything to you. I highly recommend Dr Brown and her caring staff. more

Heart of Texas Vet-Dr. Potter care about profit not pets! 10/14/2010

The doctors at Heart of Texas Veterinary Specialty have no heart. I took my pug mix who was diagnosed with bladder cancer 1.5 years ago in one morning because they were closest to my apartment and she was in pain. I had never seen her this way--she was panting, shaking, and couldn't walk very well. After I told them she has a long history of bladder issues, and that they needed to be sure to carefully read her previous records/history, they told me they needed to run some tests. They required me to put down a deposit of $330 before I left, and said I could come back later to pick her up. About 2 hours later Dr. Potter called me to tell me he thought she had bladder stones and wanted to see if I would let them take xrays (another $200). I said no because I knew she probably did have some, as she has had them in the past and the only solution is surgery which I didn't want to put her through at age 14. Also, I had been told by other vets that the stones would more than likley come more

Not a good experiance 7/10/2010

All I can say is that I spent $1,600 + and my dog got worse. Heart of Texas never figured out what was wrong with Niko. I ended up having to take her to Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Hospital. The vet heard Niko cough and 15 mins later came back after doing a test and told me Niko had pneumonia. They told me if I took her home, 50% chance of living. This was Friday at 12pm. The evening before, I picked her up at Heart of Texas and they told me Niko was stable. I was up all Thursday night with her and I knew I had to take her somewhere else. Friday morning, Heart of Texas was pushing me to take her to A&M to do an emergency test on her heart. Glad I didn't take their advise or I would have been out of pocket ~$600 with the drive to A&M and the cost of the emergency heart test. Niko stayed 3 night at CTVSH and she is now doing absolutely great! Pros: 0 Cons: Several more

Pleased ! 7/3/2010

I want to share my experience with everyone and let them know that i was in a situation where my pet ( Brandy) was vomiting and had watery stool. My Vet was closed so i went to Heart of Texas Emergency center and saw Dr. Lauren Cannon. She was extremely compassionate, knowledgeable and i didn't feel like i was pressured in doing treatment since money was a concern to me. Her Nurse, Jorge, went over the estimates with me and answered all my questions. I was very pleased with the whole experience of The Heart of Texas. Brandy is doing great, I would recommend anyone to take their pet here if they had to for an emergency. more

$80 to tell me what I told them. Dog died of parvo the next day. 6/3/2010

We went into this vet late on the evening of Wednesday June 3rd 2010. If you are planning a trip to the vet I would suggest using anyone but these people. Lauren E.Cannon was the tech at the time and she cares about nothing but money. We had $100 to hand them at the time we walked in and a dog that was on the verge of death, they charged us $80 for the visit and did nothing more than take his temp, heart rate, and a fecal exam, which they said contained a small amount of frank blood... things we told them ourselves. They proceeded to tell us that if we could go home and gather money and come back later that night (we left their office after 9 pm) they would take some blood samples at $30 a piece and not charge us for another office visit. We left and took him to my normal vet this morning, only to find out that he was actually nearly dead and has PARVO.... which my normal vet techs smelled before we even made it thru the door. Yes, smelled. This vet knew the dog was going to die more

Expensive!!!!!! 5/14/2010

I had them do my pets ACL surgery, they reemed me for every cost they could, they went over the so called 10% increase or decrease in the bill. They over charged the meds by 70% of what you can get them for online. If your pet needs orthopedic surgery, go see Capital Veterinary Clinic. They charge $1600 for the same surgery I paid $2600 for. I give this business a solid thumbs down. They don't take responsibility for their fee schedule, they told me the owners set the fee schedule, not the doctors. Someone is getting wealthy off the poor pet. more

Dr. Brown is the best vet you could ask for! 3/29/2010

There is no better than Dr. Raquel Brown and her staff at Heart of Texas Veterinary Center. Her oncology knowledge and skills have saved my precious Rottweiler's life. I cannot express how much we care for her and her staff, except to say that we now - after 3 years - consider them our family. They are so accessible, Dr. Brown offers options and is obviously honestly concerned about her patients, and she explains things in very easily understood terms. They all also care for the family members of the pets - I have never felt as comforted by ANY human doctor as I was by Dr. Brown when my Rottweiler was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Happily, though, thanks to Raquel's knowledge, he is doing very well and is always excited to go visit Dr. Brown! Pros: Compassionate, knowledgeable, my dog LOVES them! Cons: Not in the office on Fridays more

Best Veterinary 5/1/2008

All I have to say is that I was extremely impressed with DR Brown and her Vet Techs. Pros: Didn't rush me, had several options to care for my pet, pro military Cons: 60 mile drive from Fort Hood more

Very compassionate and patient, best vet I have ever been to 9/19/2007

As a specialty center, it might not be a good thing that you have to go there, but they are wonderful. Our dog's problems had been ignored or passed off as nothing by another vet. We finally took her to see Dr. Melendez, and she was very attentive. She completely listened to our problem, and although the diagnosis was not good, I would highly recommend her. She was very compassionate and explained the problem, treatment and options to us, and even spoke with me on the phone to follow up afterwards. Our dog was very comfortable there, and not nervous at all as she was at some other places. Great place to take your pet. Pros: Easy to get an appointment, compassionate vets, patience with owners Cons: none more
