We've had the sushi at Asuka a few times but only take-out and it has been very good. We decided to eat in today and the service was among the WORST we've had at a restaurant. Aside from being really slow, the owner (who would only speak through our server and not show her face) should not be an owner of any retail establishment. We ordered a bottle of wine that was clearly spoiled/oxidized - very apparent upon the first sip and visual appearance. The owner (again only through the waiter) initially did not want to take the wine back. We had to argue with the waiter to not be charged for the wine. There was no offer to replace the bottle. We gave up and thought that was the end of it. Then, the waiter comes back again with a message from the owner telling us we were wrong and the wine is fine - stating ""that is just how that wine tastes."" With respect for the winery, I will not mention the name since I am sure they would be appalled to have their wine served in a restaurant that can't admit that they had a bad bottle. Honestly, this back and forth went on for 20 minutes with no offer for a replacement bottle.
After that, forget it. We were marked as a table to not be waited on.
Shame on the owner. The cardinal rule of owning a business ""the customer is always right."" And that was broken.
Second, wine goes bad. It happens. Any other restaurant would have immediately opened a new bottle.
Third, if the bottle was replaced and it was fine, the restaurant would not be out any money since the markup on that particular bottle was about 60%. Throw out the bad bottle, customer buys new bottle and you still make 10%. Simple math.
Fourth and most important - and this is for the pathetically cheap owner-we will not be back. You lost us for good - and possible more customers after they read this review - all so you could try to save a buck. Good luck staying open another year?
Pros: Good sushi for the area
Cons: service, the owner
