Editorial review from Citysearch 10/9/2012

Seeing Dr. Cain is always such a pleasure. He walked me through a very scary diagnosis last year and after experiencing side effects from the medication I was put on for this condition, he gave me several options for other meds. His office staff is always friendly, efficient and I always have a short wait time. I am very fond of Dr. Cain and have the utmost respect and confidence in him as a doctor. I drive over an hour and a half to his office, but wouldn't consider going anywhere else! He's very witty and has a dry sense of humor - right up my alley! more

Dr. Cain is great - the office, not so much 5/3/2012

I was referred to Dr. Cain by my GP. He is thorough, caring and engaged, and he got me in for an in-office test while I was there so I wouldn't have to make another appointment. He gets five stars. The whole experience gets four. The folks in the office are friendly and responsive - while you are there. It is very difficult to reach anyone in this office on the phone. I ask that they keep in mind that people may be extremely anxious about test results, etc. and leaving messages and waiting for returned calls can be nerve-wracking. Even when I call billing it goes straight to voice mail. more

Response to Review by blueeyes594 4/18/2012

I would like to take the opportunity to respond to the review by a former patient's mother, which was posted by blueeyes594 on 3/14/2012. As an employee of Dr. Cain's for over five years, I have never witnessed such a horrifying verbal attack on a staff at a medical practice or elsewhere until this woman (blueeyes594). On a number of instances, I witnessed our employees attempt to patiently work through issues with this woman, while taking her pounding persecution and name-calling. On two separate occasions, while yelling at our staff, she offended other patients in our office with her excessive swearing. Our office had no choice but to discharge the patient due to the inappropriate behavior displayed and the vile language used by his mother at our office and over the phone with our employees. As with all businesses, our office makes mistakes. We work very hard to correct them and not allow them negatively impact our patients. Although our office made a mistake in scheduling with her son's EEG, we corrected the error and her son was accommodated immediately, with only a 30-minute loss of time. Other accusations in her review are false. If she had followed the instructions our office had given her, she would not have run into a number of the issues about which she complained. We welcome comments from our patients and use them to improve. However, we would appreciate comments posted publicly to be accurate. If you have any concerns about any content in the postings or about our practice, I would encourage you to contact our office and ask to speak with the practice administrator. We are happy to answer any questions and look forward to your call. more

Needs new front staff 3/14/2012

Dr. Cain was a great neurologist and got my son on the right track once he was diagnosed. BUT for a test that was scheduled months in advance, the appt was never made and when I got there they told me ""looks like YOU have a problem"" Luckily I had saved the paperwork that was given to me that had the date and time of the appt. I waited until they rearranged the schedule to keep my son's appt. He had to of been sleep deprived and not had anything to eat or drink. I wasn't going to put him through that again. The other issue is that in order to get the prescriptions you have to physically drive into Austin to get them and pay $15 for each prescription or pay $40 in advance to have them mailed. BUT they do not automatically mail them. So the last time I drove to get his script, I paid the $40 (well actually $55 because the dumb office staff couldn't subtract 15 paid from 40) No apology offered for either incident. So I've been checking the mail religiously for the last week for the prescription. NOTHING! I called the day before and yesterday because he was out as of yesterday. (horrible headaches and vomiting are side effects of not being tapered off the meds) No return phone call. I called again this morning at 8:05 (Wed) and was put on hold for about 10 minutes before the office staff came back on the phone to tell me that the script was ready. So now I have to drive to Austin to pick it up today and then drive back to Austin tomorrow to go to the follow up appt with this doctor. Needless to say because of the immaturity of his front office staff-tomorrow will be the last appt I have with this doctor, nor will I ever refer anyone to his office again. Why is doctor office staff never held accountable for any of their mistakes? more

Best Neurologist in Texas 3/6/2012

I was referred to Dr. Cain by another neurologist in town. Dr. Cain not only spent time diagnosing me, he actually came to know me as a person. His ability to diagnose and bedside manner are truly exceptional. I would recommend to absolutely anyone. I trust him implicitly. Kate W more

Best Neurologist in Austin 12/24/2011

Dr. Cain diagnosed my husband with ALS a year and a half ago. We were referred to Dr. Cain after we had received a wrong diagnosis from other neurologist in the area. Although, it was a hard diagnosis to accept, we were thankful to finally know what we were dealing with. We have been seeing Dr. Cain ever since. He is caring, considerate, and really knows what he is doing. We are confident that he will do the best he can for us. We would not go to anyone else. Len and Dianne Nowicki more

Sensitive Dr. 10/20/2011

I had a scary experience with a first time seizure. I needed a neurologist...someone to tell me what had happened. I found Dr Cain and feel very lucky. He's sensitive, detailed, patient and reassuring. I've been to his office several times over a three week period, and each time I went in frightened but came out calmed by Dr. Cain. I trust him and am thankful for his knowledge and expertise. LOVE HIM! more

Grateful 7/27/2011

I was so thankful to be able to see Dr. Cain upon the return of my migraine headaches. Due to a scheduling conflict, he squeezed me in, closing the office late the night before he was leaving on vacation. I couldn't have been more grateful. I remembered him as he was years before, easy to get along with, thorough and to the point. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing a neurologist. more

Dr. Cain, Neurologist 7/16/2011

Dr. Cain is very experienced and capable; he diagnosed my condition almost instantly upon entering the exam room, but he is not a particularly effective communicator. He has diagnosed me with Parkinson more

Thank you Dr. Cain & Staff 1/27/2011

My son was reffered to Dr. Cain by his pediatrician. We were so fortunate to get in so quickly. The staff is always friendly and Dr. Cain is so personable. Dr. Cain has probably been one of the few doctor's we have seen who has such a warm personality. Many doctors now a days don't take the time to get to know their patients. I truly appreciate how brilliant he is, and my son is doing so much better. Thanks, Dr. Cain and Staff we appreciate you. Mrs. R. Hernandez & A.J. more

He's the Top Banana 11/14/2010

I recommend Dr. Cain to everyone I talk with who may be having medical problems that could even remotely be neurological. He's brilliant and personable too, what a combination! He has been my neurologist since I had the good grace to get a referral to him in 1997. Throughout my diagnosis and disease management he has been an encouragement and educator. He's just the best doc a person could have. Thank you, Dr. Cain. more

Dr. Petroff is Highly Recommended 10/13/2010

Dr. Petroff did an expert job of diagnosing me and prescribing proper treatment where other trained clinicians had failed to recognize the true nature of my condition and allowed me to remain in discomfort and despair for the better part of this year. I highly recommend him to anyone experiencing neurological issues in need of correction.\r Bill Macdonald\r Dripping Springs, TX 78620 more

Dr.Cain 9/1/2010

Ten years ago I had a brain tumor removed and Dr.Cain became my neurologist. I had to stop seeing Dr.Cain because of insurance/financial reasons. A couple of weeks ago I decided to come back and see Dr.Cain , he remembered me and my condition. I felt welcomed. I still don't have insurance but Dr.Cain is working with me. Coming back to Dr.Cain was the right choise. I'm glad I did it! \r \r Thank you, Ed Salazar Jr. more

Great experience! 8/11/2010

I was very nervous about having to see a neurologist. However, my visit to Dr. Petroff's office was such a good experience, that I look forward to returning. His staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and they got me in to see the doctor right away. He was patient and answered all of my questions. I recommend his office, if you are looking for a neurologist. more

Great Experience 5/7/2010

I was referred to Dr. Cain by my ENT, who I absolutely adore, so I knew Dr. Cain would be of high caliber. I wasn't disappointed. Dr. Cain was very welcoming, very interested in helping me deal with my pain. Sometimes he did go into more detail than I needed to know, but when he saw the glazed look in my eyes, he laughed and said 'ok, ok, I know, TMI'. He was quick to spell it out like it was. And though my diagnosis was not a popular one he was quick to reassure me that I could be pain free. He was very encouraging. The only thing that might bother other folks is that when the patient, that he saw right before me, was checking out Dr. Cain remembered some more info to give him and stepped out for a couple of minutes to speak to him. It didn't bother me as that is something I would have done, too. I did not use their website to make an appt and it did take me a while to get a hold of someone in the office. I did initially leave a phone message, but no one ever returned my call. I just kept trying until I got a hold of someone. I prefer to speak to a live person. Pros: Straight to the Point, Great sense of humor, Thorough Cons: Very Popular more

Born to be a doctor 2/24/2010

I just went in for an initial visit, but Dr. Cain comes off as an excellent doctor. His competence and ability in the field seem to be top notch and are shown in the numerous certifications he has managed to collect throughout the years that now cover the walls of his practice. I had looked up some potential diagnosis for the problems I might be having on the internet before I visited him and, without me mentioning them, he zeroed in on the probable issues quickly and knowingly. I will admit, at first he might seem a little intimidating, but give it a minute and he quickly opens up into easy conversation. Tell me, would you rather have a doctor that fawns all over you or would you rather have a decisive, intelligent doctor who will get to the root of your problems? Pros: Knowledgeable and Friendly Cons: slightly intimidating at first more
