True Indian Cuisine 12/6/2006

This place is by far my favorite place in town. If you want true indian and pakistani cuisine stop by at aslams rasoi. Aslam the chef and owner is my favorite chef for now on. I use to go to dosa for south and pakwan for north and pakistani, but now aslams has all three of them. Take my advice and go to aslams rasoi, if u dont like it there is something seriously wrong with your taste for true indian cuisine. the staff members are really helpful and sweet. Our waters are always full and our waiters are always there for us. Try it and see. THANK YOU ASLAM FOR OPENING THIS WONDERFUL RESTAURANT CLOSE TO US Pros: everythings wonderful Cons: you decide more

Best of Class 11/17/2006

I went there for dinner tonight based on the rating in City Search. I was not disappointed. The chicken tandoori was tasty and moist inside and a fair sized bird too. The Lamb Vindaloo was perfect. The service was more excellent than we've seen in a long time. I hope they can maintain it. For example, they kept the water full at all times. I asked for special preparation on the onions under the tandoori and the waiter relayed the request to the chef and the cheff performed perfectly. I'll tell you this is the first time this has happened as I frequently make the same request. (usually the waiter pretends to understand and nothing is done) At Aslam's Rasoi it was perfect. And the kitchen staff came to check if our order pleased us and said he would redo anything we found too hot. Of course he must know we are pleased with it all.\r And finally, I recommend the mango lassi. Thick and full of flavor and creamy. A virtual drinkable desert.\r more

Best Indian Food in the City 11/9/2006

So far, this is the best Indian/Pakistani restaurant I've been to in the city. Everything is super fresh, well made and delicious. Even the papadums and dipping sauces stood out. The chicken tikka masala is the best I've had in SF. Service goes out of their way to be friendly. I highly recommend this place - I can't wait to go back! Pros: food, food and food. and service Cons: parking, price (just a little) more

Best Indian food in town! 11/3/2006

Aslam's Rasoi is a great place for delicious Indian/Pakistani food. The service is great and ran by a very nice family. Their prawns (with the sauce), and lamb chops are to die for! I'm definately coming back for more. Pros: Everything Cons: parking more

THe best indian in the bay area. 10/17/2006

Foodwise, Aslam's gets my vote as the best I've had outside of India itself. Amazing prawn curry, not sure what the real name is on the menu (made to the spice of your liking) is out of this planet. Pair that with their delicious samosas to start, and either one of the vindaloos, and you'll be in heaven. The space itself is very cozy, despite the high celings, and if you're lucky you'll get one of the window spots. A must visit for indian food fans. more

food is decent but overprized! 10/7/2006

ambience is nice, staff is friendly, food is ok, definitely not great, in that price range, i would have expected better food; portion is kind of small, we went there as a party of four and the bill came out (+ tax) is around $100...\r it's my first time visit and i think this will be the last time... Pros: friendly service Cons: parking, overprized more

i love this,,,,great food! 8/28/2006

great food...tried the goat cheese naan, lamb chops, and the chicken koma......the service was friendly as well.... more

great food, really delicious calamari 8/21/2006

Pakora battered calamari! It was perfect. The whole meal was delicious. On the downside, pllates could have been hotter, food cooled really quickly. And although the place was empty, our waiter was too busy chatting in the kitchen to offer to fill our empty glasses. Luckily the busboy took pity on us and kept the beer coming. I hope he is rewarded for his initiative. Finally, the lighting is way too bright & gives the place a cafeteria feel, but there is potential in the space. Needs a make-over. Even so, recommended. Pros: Delicious food Cons: Uneven service, lacks ambience more

Best pakistani & indian in California 8/9/2006

Excitingly Flavorful and Deliciously Inviting 7/16/2006

A haven for foodies and an exciting destination for the casual diner, these dishes are so tasty that each mouth watering morsel leaves even full-bellies wanting to find room for more. The staff is warm, bright-energied and kind. The space is airy and open with smaller corners tucked away for intimate meals. They get everything right - and do so effortlessly. Pros: Tasty food, attentive service, great energy more

Excellent Food and Service - Best Indian in the City 7/8/2006

Aslam's Rasoi is outstanding. The service is warm and friendly, and the food is amazing. From the moment you walk in, you can tell that they want you to enjoy the experience. We even got a tour of the kitchen and a chance to meet the chef/owner who received rave reviews while he was at Indian Oven. We've dined all over the city, and this is the best Indian restaurant. Pros: Delicious food, great service, nice location on Valencia Street more

Best Indian Food Ever!!! 7/6/2006

I had the pleasure of discovering this little gem and am so very pleased that I did!!! The service was excellent and they went so far as to give us a tour and show us the method of preparing the naan in the clay pots!! We were delighted and plan on coming there for years!! I highly, highly recommend this restaurant! Great food, great ambiance and a lovely family that is running it!!! more

Once you go it is hard to go anywhere else. 7/5/2006

Get yourself and friends over to Aslam's Rasoi ASAP before the lines go around the block. If you like/liked the Indian Oven ""during the Muhammad era"" then you will love this place. If you hated the wait and the higher prices ""and even more inconvenient parking"" at Indian Oven check out Aslam's. Myself and 2 others had an entree each, 3-4 appetisers, tons on nan, lots of beer/wine, desert and the bill was still under $100. As far as the personal touch goes, the staff consisting of Shital and his crew will attend to your needs and Muhammad ""the chef"" is very approachable as well and will make your meal just the right hotness. My favorites are the Kormas/Vindalu and anything with a sauce but sometimes a tandori is the right call. I really like their rice because it doesn't have too many overpowering items in it. The nan is great especially the garlic nan. If you go, I recommend you introduce yourself and become a part of this special place and I don't feel you will be dissapointed like I was in Cabo San Lucas this week when my bill for a taco and no alcohol lunch for 2 came to $38 in a NO FRILLS restaurant ""I had to ask if they meant $38 US dollars"". Pros: service, variety, value Cons: parking more

By far the BEST Indian Food I have had EVER ! 7/5/2006

Aslam Rasoi, Chef Mohammad Aslam is a chef to follow. Chef Mohammad has made a name for his cooking for many years in San Francisco in which I have followed him to every place that he has been at the helm. Please stop in and have a wonderful time and you will not leave hungry. An excellent place for a first, second, third and many many more dates with your new girl friend, boyfriend, husband or wife. A great family place to enjoy the magic that Chef Mohammad Aslam has with each and every Plate. PLEASE JOIN Aslam Rasoi AND DINE, I will see you There!!! Pros: The food is always excellent ! Cons: Find me some ? more

Best Indian in the Mission 7/1/2006

Under the new ownership the quality of the food and service has taken a step-jump up from the past. The staff is warm and enthusiastic and the surroundings are comfortable but best of all the food is outstanding. The preparation is a good as I've ever had in any Indian place, which is no small trick, but even more the quality of the ingredients is without equal. I find that Indian restaurants will skimp on the quality of the lamb and chicken, especially in the curry dishes, on the assumption that the combination of stewing and sauce will hid any shortcomings in the ingredients. Not so at Aslam's Rasoi. I'm particularly fond of lamb and the lamb served here is some of the best I've had. Likewise the chicken dishes. My partner, who's a vegetarian, assures me that the same is true of the vegetable dishes.\r \r Must try items are -- all the nan breads, the Rogan Josh, the Samosas, and the Sagg Paneer.\r \r The only weakness in the menu that I found were the desserts (poor flavors and consistency) and the Chai (which is too bitter for my taste).\r \r The final high point is -- there is rarely a wait for seating, even on weekend evenings.\r Pros: No wait for seating, quick service, good beer and wine selection Cons: Parking is difficult on weekends more

Best Dal in town 7/1/2006

Fabulous food, friendly service, and they have space for a quiet dinner for two as well as big party or family tables. \r \r The best dal in town, good prices, and a real woodfired tandoor. Yum more

Aslams the Best Ever 6/30/2006

You are the man, this was our fifth time to your restaurant and you've Prevailed again. Keep up the good job and good luck. Pros: FOOD, SERVICE, AMBIANCE Cons: nothing more

Great Food, Sweet Staff! 6/29/2006

My first review! Well, I love indian food and I was so happy when i tried Aslam's Rasoi. So much better than what had been there. My partner and I are both fishatarians (vegheads who eat some fish) and have been there twice. All the food was yummy. Try the tandori prawns and the saag paneer was tasty too. We had some halibut curry thing that was great last time. The staff is very attentive - they clearly want the place to succeed. I found myself wanting to help them do that and get the word out. There should be lines out the door for this place. more

Excellent Food & Service! 6/25/2006

The location is great. The restaurant is clean. The staff is friendly and very helpful when suggesting yummy dishes. I will certainly return! Pros: Everything: Service, Food, Decor Cons: Parking more

Dine as a most welcomed family member 6/17/2006

A terrific experience beginning with a warm greeting from the most gracious Chef Muhammed and his staff. His warmth is surpassed only but his cuilinary expertise. The goat cheese naan had a subtletly and richness that lingers in sensory memory. The creamed spinach was superbly balanced and augmented by the delicious freshly made cheese, slightly browned, sealing in its feshness. The wait staff are genuine in their concern for a wonderful dining experience. It was a special occasion evening with a small family group evolving into an extended family experience. It was well worth the drive from the East Bay! more
