Best

Ate there last night with a group of old friends. Haven't been to L.A. for awhile and it was nice to be back in the city. Loved the small plate concept, had a few things I'd only ...

Unbelievable food! 6/4/2003

Food was unbelievable and the wine list is impressive. You have to try it! Pros: great service, great food, great wines more

food freaks read me 5/24/2003

the food was fantastic - i had some bizarre crabapple with mustard oil from italy??? the squid rice was also unbelievable. people watching was a riot - few characters from t.v. including jennifer aniston were dining when we were there. the french pates were amazing. the only drawback was the noise - lots of standing people at the bar not dining caused outrageous noise - i couldn't hear the waiter or the date but had to listen to the woman next to me talk about why she liked new york better. by far the most beautiful boys i've seen on the circuit (patina, sona, josies, etc) Pros: menu, good value for $$, beautiful crowd Cons: squished seating, acoustics, crowded more

Unique and Tasty 5/20/2003

I recently visited A.O.C. and was pleasantly surprised. We ate our dinner at the cheese bar (no reservation) and were served by a very friendly and knowledgeable waiter who provided us with very unique and tasty dishes. I will definitely revisit again. more

...EH... 5/16/2003

Nice looking room, cooly sophisticated but overall I left feeling kind of ... eh.. about the whole thing. Food was much ado about not much. Wine list was good, but not the holy grail that was has been led to expect and the food was just all right. Slight variations on classic tapas one finds in Spain at three times the price, for no discernable reason, and a few of them were priced as to be offensive. Fourteen dollars for a very small saucer of lettuce with a few slivers of chicken livers mixed in...eh. Pros: Nice Decor, Good b.g. music Cons: so-so food more

A.O.C 5/8/2003

I wasn't impressed with the youth ghetto trend. The attitude and atmosphere was abhorent. Overall, I would stay away from this highly over-rated eatery. The food was precious, the menu absurd, and the seating upstairs(which I didn't attend to) looked cramped and rather pathetic for individuals who were hidden there. If you eat in this joint demand not to be put in the frozen attic. Pros: location, parking attendants, bathrooms Cons: food, attitude, youth ghetto more

Great Evening 4/21/2003

I was in town visiting from S.F. and we went to A.O.C on Friday. First, the greeting from the hostess was very pleasant. We were led up to a table in the covered patio whic was very nice. I felt the food was wonderful, I very much enjoy small dishes and being able to share. My only food complaint was that the flank steak was a bit rare for my liking. Service was good if a bit perfuntory. more

some great stand-outs 4/20/2003

aoc was a pleasure. some of the more outstanding dishes were the roasted dates stuffed with parmesan and wrapped in bacon, braised pork cheeks with mustard gremolata and the devin's chicken thighs. other tasty treats were the roasted pair and endive salad, the farro with cabbage & pecans, chicken liver crostini with pancetta and beet & blood orange salad. there were 3 of us & we each had 3 plates, one flight of wine and another glass of wine, plus one dessert to share: $200. Pros: good service, wine flights, dim lighting Cons: one bathroom, loud, small lobby more

Are you KIDDING ME - gross 3/11/2003

Waited an hour to sit down and eat tiny portions of flavorless nothing. Had to go to eat again after I left. Service sucked. WOW this place is bad. Will never go back more

Looking for a piece of NYC in LA? 2/19/2003

I hate to be too snobby, but if you are from L.A. you will hate this place. We made a late reservation, got a nice corner table upstairs. Its dark inside, tables a little cramped downstairs, not upstairs. They have a sleek but simple small wine/cheese bar and a regular bar, both downstairs. The food is served tapas style (little ""bites"" you share) and it is excellent: its avant-garde french cuisine with a wine menu to match (...see? its snooty). If you don't like tasting new food the way the chef wants you to, or if you can't understand why a resturant can't just make a simple steak/pasta/salad for you, then don't bother with this place. Here you pay alot to (1)try new things and (2)enjoy the company you are with. I did both here, and loved it. My credit card hated it, but we knew what was coming. Pros: Excellent Food, Amazing WineSelection, Good date dinner Cons: Very pricey, Small Portions, Pretentious more

Goin Places 2/10/2003

I've been to AOC three times since my first dinner there two weeks ago. You'll love it. They pay a lot of attention to design without pretense. Urban and uniquely LA bustle without clutter. They have an incredible selection of small tasting dishes, and a cheese bar! There is also an upstairs patio that overcomes its utilitarian groundwork with some romantic lighting and a canopy. My first dinner for two came out to $84 - $100 including tip, so it is a pretty good deal. We had a beat salad, some kind of fritters with a tangy sauce, dates wrapped in bacon, duck fat potatoes, some kind of ""ancient' grain with almonds and chilies, braised pork cheeks, and seared albacore. Ive been back for the cheese plate and more wine. Pros: Wine list, Informed Staff, Good energy Cons: Very full on weekends more

The best! 1/30/2003

Yes, I loved A.O.C. Suzanne Goin uses the best ingrediants and understands what to do with them. This is true bistro dining in L.A. with the energy of the city. If you like Zuni Cafe or Rose Pistola in S.F. you'll love this place. But it's the committment to food and service that impresses the most. The pork confit, the brioche with prosciutto and gruyere, the cheese selection, the date tart and the wine program are superb. And Caroline has put together a friendly and knowing staff that understand what they're doing. Pros: great food, comfortable, exciting more

Fun Dining! 1/20/2003

I enjoyed dinner at AOC: the tapa menu is great because it allows you to sample a variety of dishes; the ambiance is pleasant; the service is fine. I would recommend the ""flight"" of champagne...you get to sample 4 sparklings and pair them with your dishes. Definately fun! more

Little Tastes of Mediocrity 1/3/2003

Had dinner(?) here tonight and was very disappointed. Mediocre at best. Fancy names of itsy bitsy tapas---what's a speck? That was the name of one of the dishes...more like the description of the size! If you believe in the Emporer's New Clothes, then dine(?) here and be guaranteed to drop change and lose weight...I give it 6 months tops! Pros: Good Service, Good Wine list Cons: Over priced, Mediocre food more

fabulous 12/31/2002

Great dining experience. Love tasting well designed combinations of flavors. Nice manageable wine list. more
