WORST customer service. They weren't helpful and accused me of lying. I called Ameren to disconnect my service in May and then in August they said they never received a notice to disconnect service. I talked to someone there and they told me it would be disconnected, but Ameren says that never happened. Now I am stuck paying $400 of utilities that occurred in the months AFTER I moved out. My landlord was very kind (if you need a place in Charleston IL, definitely go with Vaughn Victorian) but the Ameren company would have stuck me with it otherwise. Entirely ridiculous. So if you absolutely are forced to use Ameren's services (which are so overpriced compared to ComEd living in Chicago) make sure to write down, when you called, who you talked to, and what they told you. I regret not doing that when they asked me to remember what day, time and person I spoke to nearly 4 months after I called to stop service. TERRIBLE COMPANY!!!!!! more

Ameren of Illinois unjustly disconnected my service on the 14th. I had made a payment via my bank electronic transfer on the 13th.When I called Ameren i offered to send them the Proof of transmission my bank printed out for me and they refused to receive the fax. Ameren says they didn't see it. They are charging me a 332 dollar fee and adding it to my monthly bill whether I can afford it or not. If I don't pay my monthly bill along with an addition 112 dollars they will disconnect me. Whether my account is up to date or not. This clearly deviant underhanded business practice. Not seeing an electronic transfer that shows the money in your account instantly is bogus and then swindling customers out of 332 dollar to flip a switch is just low down dirty way to run your business and make money. By the way, at the time my money reached their account they had 28,017,430.31 in their account. So their employee walked around all morning with her thumb up her ass, gossiping and then maybe got around to checking the accounts scheduled for disconnection after lunch and a nap. That is not what you do to your customers and stay in business. more

Lousy Cutomer Service Period 4/27/2012

Ameren in error shut off my service. We called and were told someone would be out soon and turn on. It took mutiple calls and the reason they always gave was a computer glitch. It took them a week before they showed up. While this was going on a dude comes into my backyard in casual clothes and when I asked him for an ID, He told me f**k off he doesn't have to show me anything that he works for ameren. I told him no id get out of my yard. He tries to hit me with a metal thingy. I call the police and when they show up and I am on the phone with Ameren talking to a good guy named Tim , telling him about this he shows nothing about this guy being there. The man refuses to talk to his own company (turns out he was a subcontractor). To add insult to injury when I tell the cops I want to file charges against the guy, he tells me if I do they will arrest me. Guess Ameren pays off the Decatur, IL police dept. I called a friend who is a sherriff and he said they couldn't arrest me but how am I to know. This how corporate america operates pay offs and intimidation more

If only we had a choice 1/21/2012

One of my favorite things about Ameren is that you can pay your bill online. Except that, at least half the time, you can't. And if you happen to be that place where your service is about to get shut off, your only option is to use the Speedpay, which charges an extra $2.75. Thanks for costing me even more, Ameren! Fortunately, I haven't had to call their customer service in years. But I still remember back in the day, when whether or not you could pay over the phone depended entirely on which representative you got that day. I was told everything from ""only with a card that has the same name as the account"" to ""no, we don't take payments by phone, you have to go into a payment center"", all in one day. This is the problem with zoned utilities. With no competition, there is absolutely no incentive for them to be even mildly polite to you or try to help you in any way. You can't take your business elsewhere, and unlike cable, you can't just opt out of having electricity, and they know it. more

Worst Customer Service 7/25/2011

This doesn't even deserve one star. They messed up my bill, and the lady (named LODIA) was yelling AT ME for it. She was very rude, and she doesn't deserve to keep her job any longer. She kept saying I didn't understand the situation and she wasn't even listening to my entire story. Now, I have to call my bank and get this resolved. Lodia is an idiot, and if you find yourself talking to her, call her a pathetic moron and hang up. more

The rudest customer service in STL 9/30/2009

My wife called customer service twice to inquiry about a bill. The first time the woman started yelling and talking down to her. The second time she called, a different woman answered the phone who mumbled and couldn't even communicate. I would seem that the majority of Ameren's customer service reps are dumb or socially challeged. more

Ameren UE insulting to customers 11/24/2008

My wife called Ameren to get the gas turned on at a house our daughter and our grandchildren were to move into and she was insulted by a ""representative"" named ""Linda"". Linda became very abusive in her language toward my wife and treated her as if she is ""stupid"". It upset my wife nearly to the point of tears. I called Ameren and asked to speak to a supervisor and was told they couldn't find one. They stated they would give my phone number to a supervisor and he/she would call me. This was hours ago and no call yet. Just what are the supervisors supervising if they can't be found?? Ameren UE has got to be the absolute worst in the U.S. when it comes to customer service!! I would give them NO stars if I could!! Pros: none! Cons: POOR customer service!!!! more

Over the past three years as a customer of AmerenUE, I have recieved many hints on how to save money with electricity. I have purchased and use almost 80% new bulbs, I recycle,I only wash in cold water,I only run my dishwasher when it is full, I use the grill in the summer. I prepare as much of my food in the microwave as I can, I unplug my toaster and my blender and my hairdryer,I have surge protection on my major appliances,including my computer. When I leave a room I always turn off the tv and the lights. I use very little very hot water, only when showering. I do not take hot full baths and my bill never goes down. It has increased every year. I recently recieved a letter from your CEO Tom Voss, looking for an increase. I will not support it. When I see my effort paying off then and only then will I give Mr. Voss a raise. Pros: thank god for it when it works Cons: What can I say? you would not take my real comment! more
