WORST customer service. They weren't helpful and accused me of lying. I called Ameren to disconnect my service in May and then in August they said they never received a notice to disconnect service. I talked to someone there and they told me it would be disconnected, but Ameren says that never happened. Now I am stuck paying $400 of utilities that occurred in the months AFTER I moved out. My landlord was very kind (if you need a place in Charleston IL, definitely go with Vaughn Victorian) but the Ameren company would have stuck me with it otherwise. Entirely ridiculous. So if you absolutely are forced to use Ameren's services (which are so overpriced compared to ComEd living in Chicago) make sure to write down, when you called, who you talked to, and what they told you. I regret not doing that when they asked me to remember what day, time and person I spoke to nearly 4 months after I called to stop service. TERRIBLE COMPANY!!!!!!
