Best

I went in a few days ago and found new employees who care about me! They were honest, helpful, fun and excited to be there -- for me. I think they're on a new track...

Worst

This used to be a great core shop in the Golden area. They carried great brands and had fun employees. Unfortunately things have changed, I'm not sure if its because of the Chri...

Never again.... 2/26/2011

I have experienced some interesting attitude in the summer shopping for a new kayak and some gear.Did not buy anything, even if it was a good deal. Heard it was under some new management and was looking a some ski gear for this season. Well, nothing has changed, if anything it has got worse. I don't know if its because I am a girl or they think they know some much about every outdoor sport that there is nothing they can learn from there customers. I will never waste my time there ever again and I suggest you do the same...... more

I would not recomend Alpenglow 2/20/2010

As other reviewers have said, this store has really really gone downhill. There are a couple of nice and knowledgeable employees but they are equally matched with pompous jackasses. \r For example, I went in with full intentions of buying a specific boot (Scarpa T-Race) which I had been sized for at Larry the Boot Fitters in Boulder (They really know their stuff and I regret not buying from them in the first place). The salesperson at Alpenglow said they needed to size the boot before I bought it. I told him I had already been sized as Larry's so I knew what I wanted but he still insisted. I agreed thinking it would only take a minute. The guy proceeds to tell me the size I chose was way too big for me and that I needed the next size down. I again tried to tell him that I had been sized at Larry's but then he states ""Larry is a personal friend of mine and there is no way he would fit you in that size boot."" I said that he did and that the next size down was just too tight. He then went on for a minute about how he has been a boot fitter for 23 years and that he has been working with boots before I was born. First off, the guy could not have been more than 10 years older than me and second who makes such a condescending remark to a customer?! I told him I did not want to try the smaller shell size on and I was going take my business elsewhere. He told me, ""That's fine, if you want to go somewhere else and get a boot that doesn't fit you then be my guest."" I find it amazing that a company can have such poor customer service and stay in business.\r As another reviewer said ""Instead of looking down your nose at random questions and responding with pompous attitudes, try smiling and joking with your clientele."" Pros: Telemark AT selection Cons: Very poor employee attitude and cocky salesmen more

I would recommend my family and friends to AlpenGlow 1/13/2010

I'm new to backcountry skiing and went to AlpenGlow based on a friend's recommendation. I guess they're a kayaking shop in the summer and my friend actually purchased his first kayak through them this past summer. I went in not sure what I was looking for or needed, and was a little intimidated. I was greeted right away and felt taken care of the whole time. The guy helping me was EXTREMELY knowledgeable, not only about equipment but also on how to plan our trip. They didn't carry the ski jacket my husband was looking for so the salesperson called other stores trying to track one down. He was more attentive, knowledgeable and helpful than most other store reps I deal with on a daily basis. It made the experience easier for me (even enjoyable since he seemed to have a genuine passion for helping us out) and I will refer AlpenGlow to my parents and friends. Everyone in there was really helpful and friendly. Thanks AlpenGlow! Pros: Great customer service and knowledgeable staff Cons: Alittle out of the way more

Don't go to Alpenglow 11/27/2009

I thought this place would be awesome, and my girlfriend needed insoles for her ski boots, so I went into Alpenglow to support a local business. Nice store, but man was I wrong. The gentleman who sold her the insoles this morning was great, but when we went back that night just to look around their shop, they were horrible. This was the WORST customer service I've ever had. Her boots hurt (not because of the insole), and we wanted to try on another size possibility, and they told us that she had the wrong boot for her. She mentioned that she liked the boots she had, but that it might be a size issue. They insisted that she has a wider foot, and that these boots wouldn't work. After measuring and finding out that they were wrong, we went to a shell fit to see if the boots were too small. After we tried a shell fit of her boot, one guy said it was too small, and the other said it was too big. They didn't even have the same concept. One guy said it should have been too big, considering the size number, then tried it out and realized that's not the case. The other guy was so stubborn and sure that the numbered size was the one to follow that he shoved his fingers in for the shell fit, and they were too tight, so he said that my girlfriend was just not pushing her foot forward in the boot enough and that the boots were too big. Her toes were touching the front, per proper shell fit protocol. I shell fitted those the first time when she first got them, and they were perfect. maybe a bit tight, but certainly not loose. All we needed was a liner bake. They were just trying to make me out to be wrong about everything. Sometimes I am, but in this case, I wasn't. They were pompous jerks. The big problem here is that they wouldn't let her explain what the issue was. Had they done that, it would have saved a lot of time and frustration. They got her a heat mold for free, and I (who brought them business in the AM) couldn't get that done to my boots (unless I paid 15 bucks), because she is the one who paid for her insoles. I think that when I take her somewhere to get good knowledgeable expertise and a friendly atmosphere, I'll take her somewhere else. These guys SUCK (except for the guy this morning. Sorry, mate-you should consider raising your personal employment standards). Pros: Tele rentals early season Cons: Lack of knowledge paired with cocky salesmen more

Not what it used to be :( 11/3/2009

This used to be a great core shop in the Golden area. They carried great brands and had fun employees. Unfortunately things have changed, I'm not sure if its because of the Christy Sports envolvement or what? But they need to loosen up. You sell skis and boats, these are fun things. Instead of looking down your nose at random questions and responding with pompus attitudes, try smiling and joking with your clientele. Too bad really. Pros: In Golden Cons: Poor attitude from employees more

This place is great! 11/2/2009

they've got Tele rentals early season when others don't! Pros: super knowledgeable friendly staff, cheaper rentals than REI more
