I think that all of the people at Affiliated Dermatology take happy pills every day. They are always kind and respect privacy. I am Dr. C. Layton's patient, and I am so grateful...

Editorial review from Citysearch 2/19/2013

Be sure to get an insurance estimate before you go in. The final bill was nauseating. On top of it all going to deductible, which was undisclosed to me at the time of service, Affiliated Dermatology charged me two copays for my daughter and toddler to be seen in one appointment slot, although it only took 30 seconds to tell me nothing could be done for the youngest. Then, the billing staff (Shannon) blamed the insurance company for charging 2 copays! Shannon also argued that there was no way to give a prior estimate. How do other doctors' offices do this? No matter what industry you work in, if you are expecting average americans to pay $500 for an hour's worth of work, that needs to be disclosed prior to work. In the end, Shannon was fine with me leaving the phone upset, so it must be normal practice for them. Unprofessional and unethical. I imagine these are reasons we have problems with the medical industry in the US and why doctors need to be managed, (but I'm sure Affiliated Dermatalogy would just blame the insurance companies.) more

AFFILIATED DERMATOLOGY ARE SCAM ARTISTS 11/22/2011

After reading the good reviews this dermatology office had received online, I thought I would give them a call when I needed to have a ""mole"" removed which was causing some irritation. I was prepared with the online patient forms when I arrived so I was seen very quickly which was a nice start to my visit. The doctor was very courteous and knowledgeable and after I explained what I wanted done, he very quickly proceeded to remove the ""mole"". Right after he removed it, laser in hand, he asked me about another mole, ""while he was there.."" I said sure, even though it wasn't causing any problems, then a third mole. I left the office within 15 minutes of my arrival with three small bandaids on. A couple of weeks later, I received an invoice. I nearly fell on the ground. I went in for a simple procedure which was partially covered by my insurance, and I received a bill for all the additional extras he talked me into, plus lab tests for each one. What I thought was going to cost me less than $150 is now $700. I tried calling to dispute the fact that I never wanted or approved any of the additional work needless to say to have the samples sent off to the lab for testing. The doctor made it sound like he was doing me a favor for the 30 seconds of extra laser work. They refused to budge and I have refused to pay for the services that were not approved, so now they have turned it over to collection. The collection fees, it is now up to about $1,000 and negatively impacting my credit. Please take my advice, avoid Affiliated Dermatology and their shady business practice. They are not looking for long term clients, simply an opprotunity to milk your insurance and send you off to collection. more

Best in Scottsdale-Phoenix 7/2/2010

I too disagree 100% with the comments below. I found the doctors to be very helpful and the follow-up second to none. I have been a patient of Dr. Averitte for 6 years and am grateful for his care. The staff is friendly and always has taken care of my needs. I recommend Dr Averitte to all my friends and my personal physician is also a patient of his…Need I say more? Pros: The care you receive more

Positive experiences 11/13/2008

I also disagree with the first couple negative reviews. I've been seen in this practice for approx. 5 years, and have had only good experiences. Though you may need to wait a month or two for a routine visit, if you have something pressing they are very accommodating. I have referred several friends and family members to Dr. Averitte, and they have all been pleased. In addition, he's caught irregular spots on several of them, as well. I think it is very important that a dermatologist be proactive - and that has been my experience here.\r \r Pros: Proactive Care Cons: Somewhat long wait for routine visits more

Great Group of Dermatologist 7/1/2008

I would disagree 100% with the comments below. I found the staff and the doctors to be very helpful and nice. The office is beautiful. They had free samples of lotions and stuff out for me to take. They are great for my purse!!!! I have seen both Dr. Averitte and Dr. Lin. They are both very attentive to your needs. I saw Dr. Lin for skin cancer screening and she removed a couple of moles. That was the first time I ever had a mole removed and Dr. Lin was very gentle and nice. The assistant told me how to take care of the spots; she even gave me free samples of an ointment. I developed a rash after hiking one weekend and Dr. Averitte gave me an ointment that took the rash away fairly quick; I was so happy and relieved. The receptionist was very nice all the way through; she was nice when I scheduled the appointments and nice upon my arrival. I am very happy I found a group of great dermatologists. :) Pros: Great Doctors and Staff Cons: The office was on the colder side more

Worst Front Office Staff Anywhere 5/12/2008

I've been going to this derm for about 2.5 years. Dr. Lin is pretty good and I would still be using her if it wasn't for her god-awful office staff. On several occasions they cancelled my appointments at the last minute, but forgot to tell me. My daughter had an appointment for a 6-month skin check and they called the evening before the appt to tell me that her insurance would not cover it since she had not received an up-to-date referral from her hmo. Of course it was too late to get one, and when I suggested that they let me know at least a few days before the appt, they turned into rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth dogs and blamed me for not taking care of it. If only I had known before hand. It takes months to get a new appt at this office. The staff have been routinely rude, unapologetic when mistakes were made, and just plain stupid. It is virtually impossible to talk to the office manager to get things sorted out, since the office staff guard her like the three-headed dog in Harry Potter. Whatever happened to customer service? Get some training, for pete's sake!!! Pros: Nice fish in waiting room aquarium Cons: Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dumb working the front desk more

Lacks experience and knowledge 10/22/2007

The office looks great; the personnel including the doctor are very nice and welcoming. The doctor has all kinds of new technology, don?t let this fool you. I am not sure how he got thru medical school, but not even his gadgets can provide him with the knowledge he needs to know what he is doing. I move a lot, so I have seen my share of wonderful Dermatologist, who agree on what I had and knew it right on the spot just by looking at it. Dr. Averitte seemed puzzled and conducted painful tests which left visible scars, just to confirm what the other specialists had already diagnosed. I had something common that dermatologists treat on a daily basis. I should have known something was wrong, when he looked at his assistance for guidance and her face of disbelieve from his suggested procedure. This was not just unnecessary, it was disturbing. A dermatologist is supposed to help you look your best, not scar you physically and mentally. He also prescribed the wrong medication. more
