Best

Got my 100k Service done here. Their prices are fair and they do it in a timely manner. Hopefully I dont, but I definitely will be back for my next service/problem

Worst

Came in to get new muffler mounts for my Audi because it was making this horrible rattling noise, was told by the owner of AE German that I needed a new muffler and that it would ...

Dealer is Cheaper than this scammer 4/7/2011

These guys are totally not friendly and they actually charged MORE than the dealer for the exact same service. I would not recommend them. more

Exceptional quality of service! Ten Stars!!! 9/20/2010

Until now, I've never ever written a business review. However, given my recent experience with AE German Car Service, I am compelled to tell other German vehicle owners about the exceptional quality of service and repair they can expect while patronizing this incredible business. Finding a good auto shop is hard. Finding a good shop that specializes in German cars and doesn't overcharge for parts and labor is even harder. Over the years I've taken my vintage Audi to numerous ""German car experts"" with varied results. After my first service at AE German Car Service, I've stopped looking for auto shops. The mechanics here are honest, friendly, and knowledgeable. They give you a straight answer, tell you what you need to fix, what you probably should fix, and what can wait indefinitely to fix. They obviously care about building a relationship and provide excellent service. They're also very funny, warm, and jovial! I now look forward to my car's service for the jokes and friendly banter alone. They are a full service Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, and Volkswagen trained shop and know what they're doing. My Audi 5000 Turbo's instrument cluster was vibrating horribly and the vehicle was handling poorly (a car my late father purchased new in 1983). I had no idea what was wrong and expected the worst. On a whim, I was driving down Santa Monica Blvd when I decided to pull into AE German Car Service. As soon as I explained the symptoms, they immediately put my baby on the lift and diagnosed the problem: a worn wheel bearing and some bad motor mounts. I expected to pay through the nose, but the owner assured me he could fix my dad's car for a very fair price. Fair for who?! Certainly not him, as he gave me a quote that was probably less than half of what the thieves at the dealership would have charged. They went to work on my car right away, and it was ready for pick up the very next morning. They even gave me a lift home! Jerry, the owner is a great guy. He is very honest and sincere, and was very complimentary of my vintage Audi. He is clearly a German auto enthusiast as well as an expert. He is definitely all about customer satisfaction and return business, which is rare to find with car shops. He charged me for only one motor mount, despite having replaced both of them. He gave me a break on the labor as well. He is a real sweetheart of a man, and an absolute guru when it comes to temperamental old German cars. I will now only go to AE German Car Service for my period Audi's service and repair. If you've got an old German tank like mine, and it's in need of service or repair, look no further than AE German Car Service. This shop is top notch. Thank you so much Jerry and staff. Dad would be proud. Can't wait to hit the PCH this weekend... My 1983 Audi 5000 Turbo is born again!!! more

they love my bus like it's their own 12/9/2009

We've been bringing our cars here for years: first a 90 VW Passat, then a 95 Chevy Blazer, and now my 78 VW transporter bus. I've always been happy with the performance of their repairs, their up-front attitude, and their willingness to tell me when I don't need something until later. Lusaw stands behind his shop's work (when I needed points cleaned, and said, ""But you guys did that just last month,"" he didn't charge me for the work. And when he says ""She drives like a dream,"" she does indeed drive like a dream. Pros: fast reliable service Cons: car repair is never fun more

TERRIBLE!!!!!!! 11/30/2009

I normally dont write reviews. In fact, this is the 1st time i have ever spent time doing something like this, but my experience with this place was so miserable i refuse to keep quiet. These people need to learn how to conduct business and need to learn about CUSTOMER SERVICE. The gentleman who manages this place(Doucha or Douchan---- should be Douchebag!) seems sweet at first because he smiles and speaks kindly -- DO NOT BE FOOLED! This is all an act. He told me my car was ready after i approved an $1100 repair and told me to come pick it up...i drove from studio city about 6 hours later to find my car still in the garage being worked on. He told me that he hadnt finished and that he wasnt sure what the problem was....i asked why he had called and told me it was repaired and WHY he didnt call me to tell me this before i sat in traffic for an hour and a half! He had no excuse.....so then i called the next day and he still didnt know what was wrong.....so again i called the following day....still problem not solved. Not once while my car was there did he call me to give me an update on what was going on.....when i finally did hear from him, he called to tell me that my power steering light was on and that is was going to cost am additional $1300 to fix the car!!! At this point i couldnt take it anymore...i told him that the power steering light wasnt on when i took the car there, which is 100% true and he is now claiming it was! To make matters worse when i went to pick up the car he tried to overcharge me for the work they had done! This guy is a liar and he is a crook. I am so disgusted by their actions. The owner seems like a nice guy, but his manager and the overall service is lousy!! BEWARE!! I will NEVER let these guys work on my car again. Pros: nothing Cons: LIARS!!!! more

AE Parked my PORSCHE on the Street & it was Towed Away : ( 10/25/2009

I was looking for a new shop & found my old shop AE German on city search and wanted to let my Nightmare at AE be known to ALL!! A few years ago I dropped my Porsche Boxter off for a few weeks for repairs & some body work as my family was going to be joining me in Europe for my business trip. A week in a half into the trip I get a call from the manager informing me of the inpoundment of my car and if I could send some needed documets to have it released. I was very upset to say to least and was unable to take time away from my business or family to provide such documentation and was going to have to free my Boxter upon my return to the states. The whole thing was a hassle to say to least and that is why I never have or will return to AE. The work was not completed a trip to the SM police dept & tow yard was not the best welcome home I have had. SM Police informed me that my car was parked on the street for several days and that is what cause it to be towed. Pros: ????????????????????????????????????????? Cons: Work not the best, car was towed from the street more

Reliable Service 9/21/2009

On a friends recommendation I took my recently acquired '87 MB 560sl in for what I was told a $$$$ fuel injection problem. After discussing the symptoms with Eric & Jerry, they asked if i needed a ride home and would let me know the outcome the next day. They called to inform me that there were no problems other that it needed a a minor tune up. They also went over the whole car. Breaks, belts, hoses, engine compression, electrical, suspension, transmission & differential. All with a clean bill of health. Topped off all the fluids too. The car performs like brand new! I couldn't be more pleased with the service I received from the guys at AE German Auto Service. 5 stars is not enough for my MB new Rx. Thanks again! Pros: Honest diagnostics, Friendly Staff, No BS more

Friendly Staff & Excellent car service 7/8/2009

They could have said that my problem was worse than it was. But, they were honest and helpful. They didn't try and gouge me for more money which is appreciated in these trying times. If you are thinking of using them, I would highly recommend them. I have a Mercedes Benz which can be expensive at the dealer, Here they tried to keep the costs down for me, which i really appreciated. Thanks, Dusaw. Pros: They were honest and would work with you. Cons: The button I had put in was a little of kilter more

Great First Time Service 7/20/2008

Have a BMW and it had all the signs of a dead alternator. I had never brought my car in to AE German Car Service before and someone recommended them. I called in advance and got a very fair quote for a Bosch alternator repair. Brought my car in and met Dusan. He was extremely nice and said I could get the car back the same day and it was already 1:30PM. The car was repaired by 6PM. It's a month later and the car has been fine. I would definitely go back. Pros: Repair was done well, done on time and the agreed on price Cons: Seats had some smudge marks that came off easily more

Only TOP-NOTCH service at AE German from long-time customer... 1/12/2008

I've been coming to see AE & the crew for years. As a woman on her own without having to rely on good ole' dad for auto guidance, I've found solace in AE to take care of what I need - and only - what I need with confidence. \r \r This shop offers me sound advice, knowledge and experience with German vehicles and parts. I'm always amazed at how efficient and fast they turn my problems around. Car repair can be stressful and is always an unwelcome disruption but these guys get that and strive to make a smart solution at the lowest cost possible. They recognize that cost saving alternatives will please their customers as their primary goal seems to be to satisfy and maintain a long standing customer base. I guess this is why they've been a Santa Monica ""institution"" all these years...\r \r I have an older BMW that has kept her stamina and has lasted me many years under AE's care and maintence. Considering all the LA mechanics and shops I've dealt with in the past - AE German is truly the very, very BEST!!!! Pros: Reliable, expert German care, trustworthy & friendly more

unnecessary fixes 12/16/2007

in reading the previous reviews I thought I'd find a trust worthy place. I disagree strongly. I've had my jetta for over 17 years, so I know my vehicle. I'm new to the area and hadn't found a mechanic. I did, but it's not here! I was having issues with my gear shifting. They said it was the bushels and needed new ones. INnanycase the problem is better but still problematic, so I'm thinking NEW bushels weren't even done. The mechanic with the german accent told me that the water pump needed to be replaced and I agreed. Even then he seem and behaved shady like. The water pump hadn't been replaced in 4 years so I agreed. HOwever another mechanics, 2 months later doesn't think the water pump is new. The german mechanic also said I was leaking oil really badly. However 2 months later I have yet to see a drop of oil. Whichi lead me to believe they're really good at tricking people who don't know cars. They do simply things to seem credible but trick you into bigger things that are unecessary, yet we don't even know if they do a thing. If you hadn't an issue to begin with, then how will you know if something was fixed. I don't trust them. KNow your car and get a second opinion. They've been around a while, but doesn't mean they are completely honest!!! Pros: it's not the dealer, been around a while Cons: they don't have the latest technology for newer cars, a lot vehicle sitting probably cause the owners were tricked into things they can't afford more

Trustworthy and Excellent Service 9/5/2007

The team is very friendly, competent and professional. They truly set the bar on service standards. My BMW 328 ci wouldn't start (turned out to be nothing more than the battery). I had it towed to AE German Car service - going only on the previous two reviews, a testimony that the rating system actually works. They diagnosed and fixed the problem while I waited and tested the charging system/alternator. I drove off 30 minutes later and only spent $120 total (comparable to my towing cost). I highly recommend their service if you own a german manufactured car. Pros: Professional, honest, fast, competitvely priced services Cons: Parking is a little tight more

Very trustworthy place 11/18/2006

They're honest with you, won't charge you for unnecessary work, and best of all they know what they're doing and will take good care of your baby. One time when I had to get a lot of work done they offered to do a few little things for free. more

Awesome mechanic! 11/15/2006

I've taken my Volkswagen GTI in here a few times for different issues and these guys are honest and reasonable. Their turnaround times are great. The first time I showed up for a busted headlight, the guy took one look at my lenses and grabbed a new bulb and threw it in there. Charged me a couple bucks for the part and sent me on my way. That's honesty. And that's why I've been back for more complex stuff later like getting a new water pump and replacing my timing chain. I'd highly recommend them to anyone, and not just for German cars. more
