This is where I was asked what kind of dress I was looking for, I wanted strapless, lace and something not to heavy. I was surprised that I was given 5 dresses to try on and received help from the girls. I was not rushed or anything, it felt good to actually have someone take the time to pick out some dresses for me, At other bridal shops I had to look at the racks where the bridal dresses were in garmet bags...but not at Abbeys Bridal in Andover. The service was amazing, as soon as I tried on my second dress I knew it was the "" one "" Between the service, quality, price and experience I had, I was very pleased and have recommended Abbeys to friends of mine that are getting married. Everyone should experience Abbeys Bridal before stepping into any other bridal shop. more

Terrific 5/15/2012

I only went in on a whim I would try a few wedding dresses on. The girl at the front desk was not a warm and friendly person (and should not be the welcoming party!) after checking in she disappeared and a wonderful woman came out (can not remember her name). She was great and made the shopping fun! I wish that I had found a dress there that I liked because she was terrific more

I just had to mention the exceptional service that my best friend(the bride) and I (maid of honor) received at Abbey Bridal. The staff were very knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and helpful. It was so refreshing considering the whole ordeal of finding a dress can be stressful. They listened to our needs and found the perfect dress for my friend. We also got the bridesmaids dresses there as well They even found a dress for the mother of the bride, who is very hard to please. The alterations that needed to be done went without a hitch. I would absolutely recommend Abbey Bridal for anyone getting married in the near future. If you want exceptional service and a professional and sincere staff this is the place. more

I recently went into Abbey with my friends to find my wedding dress and we had the best experience! The young lady that waited on me was friendly, funny and kind. She brought out about 5 dresses at first and then brought more as we narrowed down what style dress I liked. They give you a bra corset and pretty coat with shoes as well and the store was very clean and kept up. The prices of the dresses were awesome as well. None of the dresses were over a thousand and the quality of the dresses was very nice too. Once I narrowed it down to two dresses my consultant helped me pick out a veil and tiara. It was truly an amazing time. more

Bait and Switch, Awful Owner 9/2/2011

if I could send in a review with zero stars, I would, but for the sake of the very sweet, pleasant, helpful consultant and director of alterations, who seemed very knowledgeable, I suppose I'll have to be happy with having to give Abbey Bridal one star. My story completely corroborate's bride2012's experience, it was absolutely awful! I came to Abbey Bridal in August 2011 as a bridemaid and watched my friend and her mother be baited and switched by the shop's owner at the register. After having a pretty pleasant appointment, my friend was thrilled to have found a dress and we headed over to the register to pay. When her mother commented that the price charged was not the price written on the tag, the owner, an expressionless woman, played dumb, trying desperately to charge a higher price when the dress had been obviously discounted. Multiple tags with the same price on the dress confirmed that there had been no accident in the pricing. She said everything from ""No, I think that's a 5, not a 4..."" to ""I don't have my glasses, I can't read the tag..."" to ""My daughter just passed away.."" It was absolutely ridiculous. Even when I brought another dress from the rack that was similarly discounted, she habituated. Again, only when another consultant came by to confirm that yes, the sale price, as written on the tag, was the correct price, did the owner reimburse the bride's mom for the difference. I cannot emphasize how ridiculous this woman is, and its a shame, since the consultants were so friendly and helpful and obviously cared about their clients. The owner's antics made them noticeably uncomfortable. As nice as the consultants were, please save yourself the drama and avoid the owner. Pay careful attention to the price tag and be prepared to fight for the actual, written price. Don't waste your time or money. more

The owner is dishonest and incredibly rude 9/2/2011

I made the mistake of purchasing a wedding dress from this shop. While my consultant was very sweet and helpful, the store's owner made the entire experience miserable. She tried to charge me $200 more than the price listed on the dress' price tag (it was a sample, sold as is.) She refused to honor the lower price, which was clearly and legibly marked in two different places on the tag, insisting that we pay the higher price-- it was a classic bait and switch, which we pointed out. She raised her voice to me and my mother and two bridesmaids and made everyone incredibly uncomfortable by stating that it wasn't her fault that the dress was ""mis-marked"" because her daughter had passed away. This, while tragic, has nothing to do with the price listed on a dress tag. She only relented when another employee heard the commotion at the register and came over to tell her that of course the dress should be sold for the lower price, the one written on the tag. We walked out with the dress, for the lower price, on a cheap plastic hangar and wrapped in a trash bag (I wish I were exaggerating) but we honestly should have left it there. Not wanting anything more to do with these people, I recently found a great deal on another dress and went ahead and ordered it online. I made yet another error by calling the Abbey Bridal Shoppe to ask a question, and was unlucky enough to get the owner herself on the phone. She asked where I got my new dress, and I told her (yet another mistake, I suppose I should learn to stop being so friendly when dealing with these people.) She then tsk-tsked and told me, ""Oh, that wasn't a good idea now was it? You have to be careful with online, I wouldn't have done that at all, that's a pretty big mistake isn't it?"" I try to be polite and friendly to everyone, but this so angered me that I actually hung up on her. Please do yourself a service and avoid this shop. There is no reason to subject yourself and your loved ones to this woman's unpleasantness and dishonesty, and certainly no reason to support her terrible business practices by patronizing her store. more

Disappointing... 6/6/2011

I have been going to the Abbey for several years, bought prom dresses and both my sisters purchased their wedding gowns and BM dresses there, but I was really disappointed this time. I have a BM from out of town that they were supposed to call and ship her dress to her...three weeks until my wedding and she still does not have her dress! Also, they dont have a seamstress on duty on Saturdays and the only day they are open late is Tuesdays...so if you work and can't get there before 5 pm or are luck enough to get an appointment before 8 pm on Tuesdays, your out of luck for a seamstress. Their tayloring costs are also very expensive, my sister's alterations cost almost as much as the dress itself! I'm glad I didn't get my bridal gown here...there are better dress shops out there...I'd go here as a last resort. more

Manager is a LIAR 4/14/2011

I have been passing the Abbey bridal Shoppe for years on the occasions I am around Andover. My daughter is currently attending her prom we went in as part of our prom dress search. We ended up getting two dresses. the first dress did NOT arrive on time. My daughter had to get a whole new dress for the first prom. As if that wasn't bad enough our second dress was shipped with a few defects. The manager refused to send the dress back to the company reassuring me that their seamstress would be able to fix the dress and not to worry about it. when i called the next week the girl on the phone reassured me the dress was ready, we live in New Hampshire so you can see how it is out of our way to get to The Abbey. So my daughter and I drove down on a Saturday to pick up the second ""finished dress."" thank goodness we opened up the trash bag they had put over the dress because nothing had been done to it. As you can guess I was extremely disappointed at this point. I asked to speak to the manager, Amy. She told me that the seamstress hadn't been told to fix the dress because Amy hadn't been aware of the problem, she was the only employee who communicates with the seamstress, not the other sales girls. As we proceeded to talk about the issue she also informed me another reason that the dress was not fixed was because another sales girl, marie or mary, was out with strep throat the whole week so she couldn't tell the seamstress what had to be done. How is that excuse possible if the manager was the only person who converses with the seamstress? After another week of waiting I called the shop and spoke to one of the sales girls. She also immediately told me that the dress was ready, i told her that was what i had been told previously 2 times before and kindly asked her to physically look if the dress was fixed. She understood, as i had told her what had already happened. She told me the dress was ready and that she couldn't tell if there was anything wrong with it before. I also spoke to another sales girl who reassured me that the dress was definitely ready to be picked up. We made the trek down to pick it up. I carefully inspected the dress after i took it out of the trash bag they gave me, everything seemed to be okay. Overall I was thoroughly disappointed. If i had previously read the reviews I would not have come here with my daughter. Apparently the ""new management"" is no better than the old, in my opinion the new manager, who i assume to be the woman I spoke to amy, should have her stories straight before she tells them to customers. i DO NOT recommend this bridal shoppe, I can only imagine what the brides go through.... more

I was in to buy a wedding dress and as i was being helped i overheard the owner on this review page reading a bad message and she made up her own ""good"" review. To make this horrid, horrid place sound better than it is. It is a very cold place to be in with a terrible atmosphere. more

Severely Disappointing 8/24/2010

I'm an Andover native. I have been oogling the windows at Abbey Bridal since I as far back as I can remember. So I'm finally engaged and stop by to browse. I have never encountered such rude sales girls. All my mom and I got, was a flippant ""You need an appointment to try on dresses."" Did I ask to try them on? No. Was I interested? Yes. Did you even bother to ask if I wanted to schedule an appointment? No. Mom and I decided to wander for a while and pull out a bunch of dress and hold them up to ourselves. Sadly, we couldn't even put them back properly because the racks are all so stuffed. I couldn't have been more disappointed. more

The Owner is a LIAR 5/25/2010

On Saturday, my two aunts, my two cousins & I went into to The Abbey in search for a flower girl dress for my younger cousin for my wedding in August. The young sales girls were friendly and helpful ~ behind them sat this horrid woman who yelled one word answers from a chair across the salon. My 5 year old flower girl tried on several dresses and we fell in love with the last one she put on. I asked if it came in navy & ivory (my colors) and she barked ""yes"", when I asked to see a sample of the colors she responded ""I don't have one. Navy is navy."" OK, assuming at this point this woman was the owner, and had apparently worked there for many, many, many years, I trusted her. As we brought the dress up to the counter, I noticed on the tag there were only 4 color options, no where CLOSE to my colors. When I questioned her about it, her response was ""I can get it. I'll call you Tuesday."" Still concerned, I pulled an associate aside, brought up my concern again and she very nervously said ""it's not an option, but that's my boss..."" The woman proceeded to swipe the credit card, as I again mentioned my concern - ""I said I'll call Tuesday."" So, we walked out of the store, hoping (although I was pretty sure Tuesday would verify my disbelief.) On my hour & a half ride home, I called a salon in my town that carried the same line, explained the story and was told that it was not an option ~ I would never see that dress in Navy unless I hired a seamstress. The Designer's website also proved this liar wrong...(mind you, the deisgner's book was an arm's reach away from her when I asked ~ she never moved). So, here it is, Tuesday - called the Salon ""No, it's not an option"" I was informed by one of the saleswomen. Cons: the owner more

Condesending and pushy 2/21/2010

I went into this bridal shop on Friday with my mother and my fianc? (we're not doing a very traditional wedding, and are foregoing the ""groom doesn't see the dress"" protocol). I am very shy and quiet, and when I walked into the shoppe, the attendants were all sitting around a table chatting, so I waited to be noticed. I waited several moments before finally, someone addressed me, while still seated at the table, ""Hello?"" I responded with a greeting, and she asked what I wanted (she still hadn't gotten up or moved to greet me). I told her my wedding was in five months and I knew I was cutting it close (I didn't know what my budget was going to be until VERY recently), but I needed a dress for my July wedding. At that point she became very condescending and told me I had waited far too long and there was no guarantee I could get any dress in time, but I better buy RIGHT AWAY. She asked me my price range and what I wanted, and I told her, mentioning I wanted simply an A-line dress with a splash of color (red). She told me they had no dresses with color, and that they only had two dresses that matched my criteria (if my criteria was, at that point, A-line - they only carry two A-line dresses???) They then brought me the only dresses they had in stock that had a gathered waist meant to minimize my size. I am plus-sized, and have been my whole life - I wear a-line dresses all the time because they flatter my figure. I asked for no other compensation, but she insisted that these dresses were the way to go because they ""sucked me in."" I did NOT ask to be ""sucked in."" Meanwhile, while the younger attendents were trying to lace up my corsets and such, the older attendent kept pushing them aside agitatedly , grabbing the dress roughly, and pulling it roughly around me - ""SEE, THIS is how it will look."" I was taken aback by how roughly I was handled, without any apology or even pretense of friendliness. I felt very uncomfortable, felt like I was not listened to, felt like I was spoken down to - and both dresses the brought me were out of my price range (one by $500). I would NOT recommend this place, not at all. more

Terrible Experience 12/5/2009

I had the worst experience at this bridal store this afternoon. My maid of honor and I went in hoping to find some dresses for her wedding and the staff was extremely pushy and did not listen to our ideas. This establishment has the worst customer service that I have ever experienced. Do not bother going there. Waste of time... Cons: RUDE...DISINTERESTED...SNOBBY..EXTREMELY PUSHY more
