Avoid A-Temp. They try to sell you what you don't need. 5/5/2011

I got a coupon mailer to service my gas furnace and A/C. I decided to go and get the service done. The guy comes in a uniform cleans up my A/C and furnace and mentions that there are cracks in the heat exchanger of the gas furnace and says it's advised that the furnace needs to be replaced. I ask for a quote and another guy comes in and checks out all the vents and quotes me $3000 for a new furnace with the same efficiency or $1000 for replacing the heat exchanger. I decide to get another quote and get it checked with another contractor. The other contractor mentions that he cannot find any cracks in my heat exchanger and don't need anything and does a CO test which comes out negative. I call my gas company to confirm to see if it was safe to operate the furnace. The gas company inspects the furnace, says that there is no need to replace the furnace. I get a customer survey mailer and give me them a bad review. Somebody from the company calls me back and says they are going to open the heat exchanger and show the cracks to me. I tell them it's not required and the guy calls me rude as he can't digest the negative review. These guys are a big scam. They look professional but don't act professional and cannot take any negative comments.BTW, the quote for a new furnace including installation was $1800 that was quoted by a different reputable contractor. Also, replacing the heat exchanger only costs $200 according to my neighbour who had the same issue. more

Very professional, excellent service 3/23/2011

My furnace did not work well this winter after 20 years of service. I googled A-Temp Heating & Cooling Inc, read some reviews and decided to give a try. Diann, a very nice lady answered phone and made an appointment for me. Ben, the saleman called me on the appointment day, told me he was on his way but would be a few minutes late. Before he entered my house, he put a shoe cover on his shoes, very culturely sensitive. After checking my furnace, Ben told me the furnace was very rusty, it might have some serious problems. After many questions were satisfied, I decided to install a new furnace. I got an appointment three days later which was this morning. Matt and Saul showed up on time. To my surprise, they all had shoe covers with them. When they entered the house they all put the covers on. Every time when they need to work inside the house, they would ask for permission. When they finished, they cleaned their work area. Before they left, they showed me all the work they had done, showed me how to change the filters and how to operate the new themostat. They also helped me to put a new dryer vent with no extra charges. As soon as the technicians left, I called the office to book a maintenance service for my air conditioner. I am very happy with their work. more

Poor Installation 3/3/2011

Would not recommend Atemp Heating. Bought a Coleman furnace and called for service and found out they already do not carry that line anymore. Dug around a little and they change their main furnace line a lot... I wanted a firm that had carried the same manufacturer for many years providing expertise and a company that stands behind their product. Didn't ask the right questions...Sure they service it and all the other lines they have carried, but they already have a new line. Mine is obsolete in their mind. Signed, Very Frustrated. more

Portland furnace and air conditioning replacement 3/1/2011

We interviewed three different companies about replacing our 30 year old furnace, hot water heater and air conditioning unit. Paul was the sales guy from A-temp, and we felt real comfortable with his follow through and knowledge. One of the bids received was outrageously high, and they pressured to close us first meeting. A-temp's bid was slightly higher than the low bid, which they eventually matched. Most importantly, we were sold the right size furnace for our home. Installation went great and the guys working at our place for several days were very professional, both in appearance and how they respected our home. Everything was on-time and it works well. When getting bids on a furnace, call A-temp. They'll take care of you. more

Great People 2/18/2011

January 14th I had no heat. I had a repair person come to my house at 4pm they said that my furnace was 18 yrs old (I knew that) there was a whole (I visually saw it) in my heat exchanger. The tech said that I should replace the furnace. The tech called into the office. I spoke with a very nice lady she explained the process to me to have an estimate for a new furance. A Sales Rep came to my home. He was fantastic. he told me all of my options from an 80% furnace to a 95.5% gas furnace. Explained the diff. to me. Went over my financing options. It was soooo simple and easy. At that time it was 6pm on a friday night. I was freezing and have 2 small children. The sales person told me that i could have it installed the next day! He personally drove to the distributor and picked up the furanace. I had heat Saturday at 1 in the afternoon. They were awesome. fast. nice,polite and CLEAN...... more
