I have been taking my dog to AAA pet hospital for 3 years, and have had the final straw. The Front desk staff is very unprofessional, I always hold for 15-20 minutes on each call...

Editorial review from Citysearch 1/30/2013

I am also writing this due to all the negative comments. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and have been going to AAA for about 3 years. I have never experienced any problems, the staff is always friendly, I do not think they are over priced, I have always been satisfied with their diagnosis and the treatment my pets have had. We just lost one of our cats and the sympathy and genuine caring about my pet and my families feelings was sincere and heartfelt. I am very satisfied with AAA and will continue to take my pets there for all treatments. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/27/2012

I am going to tell you right now there are FAR FAR FAR better vets than this place. They call it a vet for pets? I call it HELL FOR PETS. I adopted a 1 year old terrier from this place who already had kennel cough. I took him home and after about a week he was almost dead because he was coughing so much he couldn't breathe. I took him to the AAA hospital and they gave me BENADRYL to give to him!!!!!!!!!!! These idiots who call themselves vets obviously have no idea what they are doing. I MEAN COME ON, BENADRYL?!?! I took him to another vet and they gave him medication that fixed it within five days. Also the bill from AAA was RIDICULOUS. Way to overpriced. I also got my dog neutered here and they had blue wires sticking out EVERYWHERE. My poor dog was in so much pain because these guys did a messy, sloppy, horrible job of stitching him back up. FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR PET, PLEASE DO NOT BRING HIM TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY OR THE AAA HOSPITAL. more

BEWARE!!!!! 4/5/2012

THIS PLACE NEARLY KILLED MY CAT!!!...I BROUGHT EM IN TO GET NEUTERED.....The cat was fine before I brought em in....1 day after surgery he's actin kinda funny, so 3 days later I look...He has a huge sore near rectum, loosing hair and blisters on the bottoms of his feet!!!!...He's an indooor cat!...never seen the outside. He was in my bedroom since he was home. In order to have chemical burns he would of had to step on something caustic, my room is carpeted.....They won't own up to it of course...AND WANT TO CHARGE ME $200 MORE DOLLARS!!!..THIS PLACE IS A SCAM THAT PREYS ON PET OWNERS EMOTIONS!!!!...DO NOT...I REPEAT...DO NOT GO TO AAA ANIMAL HOSPITAL...SERIOUS THIEVES!!!!!! more

my poor puppy :( 9/8/2011

THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE, my poor puppy went through so much pain because of them. pain that could have been avoided if they did their job right. first off before this even happened, i took my puppy in about 3 times telling them something was wrong with her and they said no it was something else. the first time i took her was for the beginning signs of kennel cough and i told them im pretty sure shes getting kennel cough they said no its allergies..guess what 3 days later she had a terrible case of kennel cough. then i took her in 2 different times for really bad diahrea and i told them i thought she had giardia and they said they could do a fecal exam but its just her food being changed so nothing to worry about. i ended up having to take her to a different vet for an emergency a couple days after the second time i took her to aaa and they second i got there they told me she had giardia without even having to test her. she had it for over a month and both times i took her in they said i had nothing to worry about. ok now this tops it off!!!!!! i took her there to get her spayed and they used a wire to close her incision and they tied it way too tight so when her belly swelled the wire was literally slicing her stomach!!!! she would run around paniced and screaming in pain so i took her to a different vet and the second they saw it they ran her back to take the wire out and when they did her stomach started gushing blood from where the wire was cutting her belly. they explained to me, the wire is an older way of doing it but when they do it they need to leave some space for when the stomach swells so it doesn't slice her belly. if your a vet, shouldn't you know that?!?!?! my puppy was in so much pain because of their carelessness. I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU NOT GOING HERE TO GET YOUR PUPPY SPAYED!!! unless you dont mind her being in a lot of pain. more

Incompetent Staff - Lack of concern & attention of Animals 7/12/2011

This place is horrible. I took my cat in for an infection inside of her mouth...I think it was from a rose thorn. When I had her examined, they tried to tell me it was just a sore and would go away on its own...I had to point out the injury again, because they did not even take the time to thouroughly look that there was a huge hole in her gum and what appeared to be a thorn!! I'm not even a vet and I could see she needed treatment. They said ""oh, I see it now"" and decided she needed surgery to remove. Fine. While she was in there, they said she was due to get fixed anyway, so they asked if I wanted to do it at the same time - she would already be under Anesthesia and it would save me money. I thought it was a good idea at the time, I was quoted 300.00 total...but when my cat came home, her stomach was bulging like a gold ball. I took her back and they said it was a hernia, so they put her under and cut her open again. The next day, same thing - huge bulge popped out. Again, I took her back, they said maybe it was an allergic reaction to the stiches. So the out her down AGAIN cut her open a 3rd time, used different stitching material, and still 2 days later the same complication. So 545.00 later, I had no choice but to take her elsewhere...another cat specialist, who mentioned the inscision site looked ""odd"" and she had not seen something like it before. I allowed them to put her down for the 4th and final time...they mentioned a ""sloppy"" job and tremendous scar tissue...but they were able to fix it up, and board her back to help within a week. She healed just FINE...had to pay 700.00 but 100% worth it! Don't take your pet here to save money, you will pay more with the end result. The people at AAA should not have licenses to practice...they should be investigated for malpractice of animals. more

Fast AND FRIENDLY 5/20/2011

I have had only POSITIVE interactions with AAA and the staff . I have a CAT. She was not nervous at all . Her surgery was a success and $200 LESS than anywhere else I checked . I will be bringing all my future pets here as well. more

Wow...some bad reviews here... 5/4/2011

I am writing this because i read so many terrible reviews. I have been taking all of my animals here for at least 7 years now. Every time I go the staff is very friendly, and kind, and seem legitimately interested in my dog and even my 4 year old who comes with me when I go. All of our cats and dogs have been spayed/neutered by this animal hospital and I have never had any of the negative experiences spoken about here. Honestly, I have had at least 10 animals with surgeries here and no bad infections or anything. The only reason this facility is not getting five stars is because, my dog Isis had lung cancer (i think) she had gotten an x-ray and they told me she had a huge mass on her back. My dog's lung had collapsed and she couldn't breathe. They charged me to re-inflate her lung and she was hospitalized for 3-4 days. They warned me that it might not permanently fix her problem, and i may want to consider putting her down. I was DEVESTATED. I spent about $1,500 on her surgery and everything. Well VERY unfortunately she got very sick again. I went to the Golden State ""Humane society"" and they refused to put her down (i went there because they only charged 25 dollars as opposed to $250 since she was an 80 lb dog). Her tongue was blue and she was breathing so hard and fast since her lung had collapsed again. She couldn't even lay down. She had been sleeping standing up when i got up that morning; and she would definitely had died that evening. But i couldn't live with myself if she suffered like that another minute. So I drove back to AAA and begged them to please give me a discount. The Vet was very nice and understanding (Dr. Bashai) but he said he could not give me a discount. So i had to pay another $250 dollars. It was very sad, but he was very appropriately solemn and gave me some time alone with my dog when she was gone. And i felt like he was comforting and sympathetic. more

NOT SURE WHY THIS PLACE IS STILL IN BUSINESS???? 2/19/2011

HORRIBLE PLACE. THEY TREAT YOU LIKE CRAP AND DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR PETS. DON'T GO HERE!!! more

Not just venting 10/25/2010

Over a year ago I found a dog as a stray and took her to the Orange County Humane Society. When I took her in I explained that I believed she was pregnant since I could feel her tummy moving when I held her but if no one claimed their lost pet i wanted to adopt her. I was informed she was pregnant with 6 puppies. I am a young adult working a full time job and I didn't want to raise puppies I just wanted the dog i found and grew attached to. The Humane Society/AAA animal hospital Boarded her for almost 4 months free of charge to me as long as I left the puppies to be adopted or paid to adopt them if I wanted them. While she was there she was never groomed or cared for her teeth became covered with tarter and her fur was badly matted. When I came to pick her up they had spayed her after her delivery and shaved off all her hair. With in 3 days her wound looked infected and was gaping open because the stitches were not properly done and she had scabs from being shaved too closely. I took her to AAA animal hospital and the staff was very rude and the Vet tried to charge me for all kinds of skin tests saying she might have scabies or a fungal infection. I graduated pre-med and although Dogs are different than humans I'm smart enough to know that the skin rash was neither it was an infection from the unclean grooming sheers and if it was fungal i can use any over the counter anti-fungal and make sure she wears a cone. I requested antibiotics which I was granted because of the stitches being infected. I would NEVER recommend taking your pet to this hospital unless you do your homework and are knowledgeable about medical needs. The staff at this pet hospital will shamelessly try to charge you for unneeded medications and lab tests, they are rude and unhelpful. They also charged me a different price when I went to pay than what I was quoted based on the services i received. It is clear that they do not sincerely care about you their customer or their patients. I have not returned to AAA animal hospital and I am I'm still looking for a trustworthy and caring Vet for my dog. Any recommendations? more

Great Experience w/ Dr. Beshai 6/6/2010

I'm writing this review because I feel that the majority of people who write reviews do it because they're angry. If you have a great experience, then you're less likely to write about it. But I have had a great experience every time I taken my 3 yr old dog there. I've always seen Dr. Beshai, who is by far the nicest Doctor there. He's very understanding and compassionate about my nervousness since my puppy is practically my own son. I've done a variety of routing check ups and a few procedures, and each time I've come out happy with the customer service, the overall costs and my experience there as a whole. I feel like this place's negative reviews are unfounded and isolated experiences, and should not be representative of the way everyone feels about this hospital. Pros: Clean facility, low costs, open all weekend more

Why is this place still in business? 5/31/2010

My cat has disappeared and I was thinking of just going into the reception area of this place to leave a flyer. From all of the reviews I've read, I don't think this is a good place to leave it! more

They LITERALLY starved my cat! 5/6/2010

IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR PET'S SURVIVAL, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TAKE HIM/HER TO AAA ANIMAL HOSPITAL!!! For a this review, I'm exchanging my mourning over my cat's death for complete and utter anger. My cat wasn't eating or drinking, so I took him to this place because, after comparing prices online, they APPEARED to have the lowest costs. Let me tell you, taking your pet here will cost you in more ways than one. They put him on fluids and kept him for an ultrasound and blood work, for which they quoted me around 600 dollars. He was there for a week. During that time, they DIDN'T FEED HIM AT ALL, nor did they attempt to. They recommended putting him on a feeding tube, which would have costed $1700. When I came to visit, I was able to give him THREE SYRINGE-FULLS of food. Did they starve my cat just so they could get me to pay for a feeding tube?? He caught some other disease while he was there, and when I came to visit him, he had a HUGE amount of mucous build-up on his nose-- so much so that he was forced to breathe through his mouth. I took a towel and wiped him clean; he was able to breathe normally after that. Why didn't the technician do that?? Were they even monitoring him?? They didn't groom him in any way. His claws were so long that it hurt him to stand. No shampooing. No oral care. No brushing. The doctor gave me some lame excuse, saying that grooming him in his condition could put him in shock, but for God's sake, the technician should have done something! It's no wonder that he caught another infection there! After $1075 worth of testing, all they were able to tell me was what WASN'T wrong with him. I repeat, AFTER $1075 DOLLARS WORTH OF TESTING, THEY DIDN'T EVEN FIND A CONCLUSIVE DIAGNOSIS. I told the rude receptionist/nurse/whatever at the front desk all of my indignations with this place, and she told me that the doctor said that I can take my business somewhere else. HOW'S THAT FOR PATIENT CARE?? Dr. Bishai used my cat's life as a bargaining chip. Dr. Bishai is not concerned for the welfare of your pets. Dr. Bishai should be put in jail for the way he treats his patients. Pros: A fancy TV that plays pet PSAs in the waiting room Cons: I honestly believe they don't care about your pet. more

HORRIBLE LIARS!!! 4/15/2010

Pros: Clean facility Cons: Bait and switch; can't have your dog until you pay ""ransom"" more

WORST! 3/17/2010

Our 12 year old was taken there this past Sunday for not eating and not going(went pee not number 2) potty, the dr on call said that he had (some) dehydration but his heart sounded good, He told us that they want to keep him 24 hours give him IV fluids for hydration ever though he told us he wasnt that dehydrated. My husband agreed to letting them keep him 24 hours as well as give him blood work to see what was wrong. not even 4 hours later they called us to tell us that he was hydrated but had a heart attack and that we should come see him before he passes away, we live 5 mins away, we got there and they threw us in a room and told us he had died! It wasn't so much that our lab had past away it was all the fees and the way the office staff acts! they charged us 575.00 dollars just for labs and Ivs then(another 400 if we wanted xrays), they took 275.00 deposit and after he past away they told us they wanted 45.00 more dollars! They ended up refunding us some of our money but I will never take any of my animals there again, I feel that they didn't do what they said then to tell us they ""think"" he had a heart attack but weren't sure. I just don't feel the bed side manor of any of the employees was good, they didn't try to make our 12 yr old daughter feel comfortable and the way they told us he had past away was just not professional. more

Terrible hospital (ANIMAL OWNERS MUST READ) 2/5/2010

Long story short, my dog Trooper became sick with parvo after not even two days of the adoption. ""Dr."" Botros miss diagnosed him saying it was the flu even after I prompted him that I found out Troopers kennel mate had come down with the same disease. Even a diarrhea stool sample which I brought in... (a key sign and symptom of PARVO) was not enough to make him consider the possibility of trooper needing treatment or testing ""just yet"" $$$ I decided to keep my dog there overnight regardless. The following day Botros tested my dog positive for parvo. Five days in the hospital later (i decided to keep him despite Dr. Botros ever so kind offer to credit me $150 to adopt a new dog... right) Trooper was able to come home for the first real time since the adoption. Botros did only charge me $365 which was half of what my bill was supposed to be because he said he ""felt for me"" followed up by telling his staff to ask me that i make a donation to their hospital. I gave them another chance a week later when trooper came down with kennel cough and got the same results, the other guy Dr. Beshai walked in never even touched or acknowledged that my dog was in the room and wrote a prescription for the cough he didn't even wait around to hear or listen to any lung sounds for. I instantly got a second opinion from my parents vet and found out it was indeed more than kennel cough. Dont worry Dr. Beshai, we took care of it. Pros: Close to the beach Cons: everything more

BAD! - Deceitful pricing and hidden costs!!!! 1/31/2010

We called around the area trying to find the best place to fix our pup, and this hospital quoted us $100 for the operation + $20 for the meds, no disclaimers about weight or all of a sudden more expensive meds... Sounds good right? ---------------- Our dog gets fixed, we pick her up, and here's our bill: (Pain Package: $42) (Spay operation 40+ lbs: $120) (In Heat Charge: $50) (TOTAL: $212.00 + TAX) --------------- Okay, so that'd be fair, if the facts were straight... but they aren't! -------------- 1st - Pain Meds? What part of ""$20 for the meds"" sounds like $42?... It doesn't! 2nd - (40+ lbs upcharge)... we weighed our dog before and after, she's a 35lb dog, (30lbs a week after the operation) Somebody doesn't know how to read a scale. 3rd - In Heat Charge, our dog was in heat 3 months prior to the operation and had NO signs of any such claim. Clearly a scam! ------------ When we talked to the clerk about these charges, they simply dismissed the subject and acted like we didn't know what we were talking about. Terrible! Please take your business elsewhere, to more deserving and honest folk. Pros: Operation was clean, our dog came out okay. Cons: Pricing, lies, and more lies more

Bad experience after bad experience 11/3/2009

I have been taking my dog to AAA pet hospital for 3 years, and have had the final straw. The Front desk staff is very unprofessional, I always hold for 15-20 minutes on each call, and have never had a call back on test results, after spending up to $400 on tests. I have made the Dr. aware of the service given by there front staff, but still no improvement, he even nodded at my familiar complaint explaining they have been trying to fix this for awhile. As a buisness owner I would never allow my reception to treat clients this way, and find it unacceptable. Cons: Front desk staff more

They recommended too much medication that caused my dog to become very sick and then they tried to cover it up! They were completely unsympathetic and uncaring to my sick dog and were rude to me. Please be careful and do not take your pet here! Pros: newer facility Cons: rude staff and potentially harmful to your pet more

STOP CALLING ME!!! 9/11/2009

I have used this animal hospital on three occasions over the last 12 years. For some reason, (perhaps because of my desperation and grief or perhaps because they were located right next to it), I thought they were the humane society and took my sick cats there to be euthanized. The last time I was there, however, I realized that they were not the humane society and they were just a filthy animal hospital. I would never take a viable pet there for anything, but now I am on their calling list and they are offering me a discount on a pet visit. I will stick with the Animal Hospital of Fountain Valley, thank you very much. STOP CALLING ME!! Pros: They are close to the humane society Cons: Their robot keeps calling me!!! more
