BURRRRRRRRRRito 8/20/2010

5 Burros has good mexican dishes, reasonably priced- and good strong margaritas. I have been there 3 times and gotten the same thing 3 times.. The burritos. Steak twice and chicken once. The steak was good one of the times, wasnt good the second. Chicken Burrito was ok. I will occasionally come back if I am in the Forest Hills area again. more

Long wait after 6pm and small place but the fish tacos and margaritas are great! more

Decent Food, Long Wait 1/28/2010

Unfortunately, 5 Burros has a bit of a monoply in Forest Hills when it comes to Mexican food. The food here tastes great, but always leaves me feeling like I weigh 400 pounds, and usually gives me ""Montezuma's revenge"". I ALWAYS have to wait to be seated if it's after 6 pm and what really annoys me is that even if there are 2 tables which sit 4 people open, they won't sit a couple so that if I wait for a half hour and a table of 4 walks in, they get to sit and eat ahead of us...huh?! Anyways, the servers are very friendly, and the food tastes good. Fun place, but don't go here for a romantic dinner since patrons (mostly cougars and bikers) at the bar are usually hovering above you and your food. Three stars. Pros: Above Average Mexican Food Cons: Long Wait, Noisy, Crowded more

Delicous Mexican Food 10/22/2009

The Camerones Salsa Verde are a highlight on this delicious Mexican menu. It's a tasty mexican take on Shrimp Scampi in a spicy green tomatillo sauce. A classic. We also eat the Burro Jalepeno Burger and Sirloin Steak Brava regularly. As well, try the Enchiladas Del Norte with Mole Sauce. Excellent. Pros: Delicious Food Cons: Long Wait on Friday/Saturday night. more

great food and drinks 9/25/2009

i've been here plenty of times and have never been disappointed! everything on the menu is great, from the burger to their steak enchiladas. Their drinks are great and never weak! the staff is somewhat friendly at times, depends who you get, but overall you get good service. it gets pretty crowded and it also gets pretty loud on nights and weekends but do try it during the early afternoon for a nice afternoon early dinner. GREAT place, love it. definitely one of my favorite places! Pros: great food and drinks PLUS great prices Cons: can get a bit crowded more

Children Welcome? Absolutely not our son! 8/23/2009

Children Welcome? Absolutely not our son! He didn't even have the honor to be seated properly. Today my husband and I stopped by at the restaurant with our 16-month-old at around 12:30pm for brunch. The restaurant was less than 50% filled. However, the waitress, completely ignored the many empty tables available at that time, and said to the butler (or ""junior waiter"") that the only table she has available for us is the little one half hidden under a short staircase rail. And she added that she has no high chair for us. And, yes, she didn't even bother to talk to us DIRECTLY even though we were standing only 2ft away from the butler she was talking to. That table has less space than a regular table for two, and definitely has no room for an extra small plate for our son - who like an average 16-month-old is eating significant amount of table food and needs at least a small space on the table to himself. I asked more specifically that we need a bigger space than that and the waitress repeated basically the same thing to the butler. So we walked out of the restaurant. My husband and I had dined at this restaurant frequently before we had our son, and it's a bit shocking that we're treated this way today. This kind of incident had never happened to us in Forest Hills, Manhattan or anywhere else. And ironically, this restaurant claims ""Children Welcome"" on the homepage of its website!! Pros: reasonably priced. excellent drinks. Cons: not baby friendly at all!!! more

legged creatures galore 8/20/2009

There is a high population of roachez. Try not to sit in the back or near the stairs.. roachez..roachez... roichez.. The workers will ignore every single creepy crawler.. they are all desensitzed from patron reactions.. when one is found crawling on your table or your corn chip. They hear you scream and nothing stops.. they act like they dont hear you!! LOL!! only go for drinks if anything.. Pros: good drinks, decent crowd Cons: roaches..roaches..roaches.. more

Authentic Mexican food in F. Hills 2/11/2009

I just went for lunch on a weekday, after not having been there for a while, though I live in the area. I've had a lot of Mexican food all over the NYC area and I can honestly say that the food here does not disappoint. Yes, it's a very small place and if you want room and quiet, you won't get it here on weekends or nights, but if you have a hankering for excellent Mexican food, try it out early for lunch sometime on any given day. The chicken enchiladas with the mole sauce is to die for! It's made with the most tender chicken ever, the mole sauce is sweet and the portions are huge for not a lot of $, (I think it's $10). The guac, salsa, beans and rice are equally good which all come with the meal. My boyfriend had the chicken chimichanga, which I tried, and again, spectacular and a lot of food. The food is always on target and very authentic. The place is a real dive-- with the decor and atmosphere, but it's the kind of place Guy Fieri should go for his show ""Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives,"" b/c the food is that good and it looks like a real dive! I think I'll write to the Food Network and suggest this place for Guy to go.\r \r \r \r Pros: Food, reasonable prices Cons: Cramped and small, slow service when crowded more

Killer Margaritas and food too. 9/2/2008

We have been coming to the FBC for almost 10 years. We have never had a bad experience. The wait-staff is friendly and attentive. My wife thinks they serve one of the best steaks in NYC for a neighborhood cantina. The mussels in garlic sauce are amazing as are the fajitas. If the chicken w/black bean salsa is one of the evening's specials do not pass it up. We have taken many friends to the FBC and one group of 12, everyone in all our parties had a great time and were not disappointed in the food or service. Yes the wait for a table can be long, but if you call ahead and put your name on the list you can shorten your wait. Remember, good things come to those who wait. Marco the host is always there for you too. The FBC remains our favorite place to eat and unwind. Pros: Killer drinks and food. Cons: Wait can be long other than that non that we can think of. more

Terrible service...worse food. 8/23/2008

We live in the area and will NEVER eat there again. We received terrible service and the waiter had the nerve to ask me what my problem was...after we waited at least 30 minutes for food to arrive. No one came to take a drink order when we sat down and we had to wait at least 15-20 minutes for the waiter to bother to come check if we were ready to order.\r \r The food was AWFUL! I'm originally from California and when I order a burrito, I expect it to come with beans, cheese and rice. When I unrolled this really dry burrito, all it had was over-cooked, dry chicken and a shmear of old guac! When I complained to the manager, he said burritos in New York don't come with beans and cheese!!! A burrito is a burrito, full stop! Whether they know how to make one or not. They clearly don't and I would not recommend this crappy place. more

Great place to relax, eat, and drink 7/24/2008

I have been here a few times. Great drinks and awesome authentic food. This is really a great place to talk, eat and drink into the night. The food is highly recommended. They have something here for everyone! They have salads, fajitas, tacos, spanish tex-mex dishes, etc. I had some of the best pork chops I have ever had here! (Great hot sauce!) They also have GREAT drinks! All drinks $8! Awesome Margaritas with a great overall mood. There is seating in the back and in the front by the bar. The bar can get very busy with a young-ish crowd. With the Jukebox booming music, a great crowd, great food, and awesome drinks, it just seems to be a great weekend/night place. Really a fun place to enjoy with anyone. more

NOT for brunch 4/6/2008

First off, no coffee. At brunch. I feel like if you're a restaurant planning to go to the effort of serving brunch, SERVE COFFEE! Secondly, the food is really bland. It's Manhattan brunch prices for corner diner food. If you can make an omelet with tomatoes and peppers, then you could be the next chef at 5 Burro Cafe. To call it 'pedestrian' would be an undeserved compliment.\r \r As is noticed by other reviewers, the service is really terrible. You'll sit with your menu for a good long time before ordering even a drink, then sit with your empty plate for a long time, then sit with your bill and credit card... And this is not on a busy day, it's just difficult to drag the waitress away from the end of the bar where she's watching TV and hobnobbing with the other servers.\r \r Do yourself a favor. Go someplace else. Cons: terrible service, bland food, no coffee at brunch, overpriced, loud TV blaring commercials more

Delicious!!!!!!! 12/2/2007

First off, we were seated right away (Sunday around 2:00pm). Not a lot of tables-seems more of a bar but the drinks were great. Chips and Salsa were ok (have had better) but the guac was AMAZING and the entrees were mouth watering. So tastey and great prices. I'm still raving about the food 2 weeks later. The only real complaint I had was the waitress. I felt like leaving a tip for the busboy who was very attentive and polite. The waitress hung out at the bar the whole time and it took us almost 20 minutes after our table was cleared to get the waitress' attention for the check and she was standing 10 feet from us and it was not busy. \r \r I WILL be going back b/c the food is so good and hopefully the service is better next time around. Pros: Excellent Food, drinks and prices Cons: waitstaff was bad more

Best Mexican. Anywhere! 11/7/2007

I can't even begin to tell you how amazing the food is here. I have been eating here for well over 10 years and can honestly say that I never had a bad meal. An added perk is the place itself. If you can handle a crowded place (on certain nights only), with great drinks and plenty to look at, go no further. Back to the food though. I have never had more tender and juicy beef, whether in the steak salad (tongue fantasy) or the tacos or the steak. I mean... It's just all so amazing. The staff is kickass too. Drinks are cheap. The jukebox rocks. Its a good time. You will not be disappointed. Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: Occasional wait time (but you can hang at the bar) more

Average Food, Below-average Service with a side of Attitude 10/2/2007

To begin with I live in the neighborhood and have been here 6 six times. I usually go on a weeknight between 7 & 8pm. I rarely have to wait. The place is very loud with a jukebox. The decor is haphazardly thrown together with a Mexican slant. The food is good, not great. Portions are hearty. Service is subpar. I always feel like vultures are staring at me. . . just waiting for me to stop eating so they can get me out the door and a fresh body in my seat! I'm glad many people have positive experiences here, I'm just not one of them. And I will no longer give them any more second chances. Pros: Tasty Guacamole Cons: Attitude, high prices for average food. more

Fun place, great food, great value 5/24/2007

The food here is all very fresh and tasy and the drinks are excellent.. I recommend the Chipolte chicken if you enjoy spicey foods. It will make almost anyone sweat! Downside is the resturaunt is very small, thus very crowded. Whenever I go, I put my name on the list and go to the nice little bar next door for a drink. The resturaunt is very fun and loud! Pros: great location, food, drinks and value Cons: long waiting list and very crowded more
