food was cold, poor service 10/11/2008

Went here on a very busy Saturday night. We had 6 p.m. reservations to celebrate a family member's birthday. We waited for over an hour and a half for our meals. Half of them were cold and tasteless. Waitstaff never asked if we wanted drink refills. Waitstaff was also unfriendly. Managment didn't even apologize for the poor service. We paid a lot of money for a very disappointing meal. more

Good Food. Good Fun 3/18/2008

I recently went back to 3 Steeple after years. I spent a lot of time there in college, I found myself in the city and thought I would go back to an old haunt. Pros: Great Staff more

Too Greasy! 2/24/2008

This used to be a favorite for lunch and bar food. A recent dinner, though, was terribly disappointing--the food was so greasy it made us sick! We started with the calamari, which I had ordered a few times at the bar and used to be crispy, dry, light and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. For some reason I can't fathom, though, they dressed the calamari with MELTED BUTTER. I don't understand why you need to butter up food that is already fried. The calamari were nauseatingly oily, buttery and greasy. Fish and chips were a little better--the fries were surprisingly good. The fish was fried in excessively hot oil, resulting in a very dark batter (almost overfried) drenched in grease. Chicken Florentine was also on the overly rich side. Wine choices by the glass were mediocre--the list is basically a pop chart full of Pinot Grigios, Chardonnays and Merlots. We had a white and a red that were both way too sweet and cloying. Pros: Stunning building, cozy atmosphere Cons: Overpriced, greasy food more

Beyond horrible food! 2/14/2008

Very disappointing meal to say the least ? after reading many great reviews for this restaurant I was very excited to try it. My husband and I went on Valentines night and it was a disaster. I always order salmon and decided to try the Ginger crusted and roasted salmon with almonds, tamari, scallions & honey, lemongrass pesto, served with cool beet salad & basmati rice amandine. Well what a farce ? the pesto was so over whelming that I put it on the side of the plate and just concentrated on my salmon. Unfortunately, after a couple of bites something seemed wrong ? it is so dark in there that I had to put the votive candle onto my plate to see my food ? my salmon was almost raw! I sent it back and the waitress said that the chef always cooks it medium ? this was not medium it was raw and tasteless. The worst was to come, my husband ordered New York Strip Char grilled with Gorgonzola, Merlot & roasted garlic compound butter, house mashed potatoes & asparagus. Umm wonder what happed to the Gorgonzola and the compound butter because there was neither on his plate ? but the absolute worst in ANY restaurant I have ever eaten in was the asparagus ? It seemed that it has somehow been grilled a long time ago ? old and the asparagus had BLOOMED the ends of three of them where brown! It was disgusting ? after me sending my meal back, we just wanted to get out of there. Service was adequate, only asked about another drink when my meal came ? not good, not good at all and it makes me sick to think of that asparagus on that plate and what was going on in the kitchen to produce and let that type of food go out. I would NOT RECOMEND this restaurant! Pros: Lighting is to dark - a small candel is not enough more

The Best Local Restaurant. 1/9/2008

I love this place for lunch or dinner. Sometimes in the mood for a burger, sometime bouillabaise; you can please everyone in your party here! I like the wines by the glass, and they also have a Belgium tap system. Call for reservations though, it seems the word is out! Pros: Great food. Great Service. Historic Building. Private Space Upstairs. Cons: Wait can be long if you don't make reservations. more
