Too bad thier customer service is the worst in the world! UGGGGG! Old man Kempf is the crustiest, least friendly person I've ever met. His daughter is a close second. I only used to go there when I needed to and now refuse to go there anymore.
Ever go to a store and you feel like the owners are doing you a favor by selling you something? That is the EXACT feeling you get when going to Kempfs. They also make you feel stupid if you don't have the knowledge of a gun smith. I'm amazed they've lasted for so long. I suppose if you're a gun nut or belong to the same antique gun shooting club they might be tolerable but to the average Joe, they are down-right RUDE. They're actually famous for being rude and having ZERO customer service.
One time I brought a very rare Browning competition pistol in there and wanted to see what they would buy it for. Old man Kempf told me it was worth about 500 bucks and he'd give me 300 for it. The gun is actually worth over $3,000 and he knew it. So not only does thier customer service STINK, they are liars and swindlers as well.
I brought the exact same gun to Blythes in Valpo and they told me the real value and did a nice job cleaning it.
Unless you're in a bind I would highly reccomend staying away from this place. I go to Blythes even though it's 25 miles away.
